2015-2016 Quinnipiac University (Netter) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am really hoping for an interview here 🙁
I have NO patience anymore xD idk how to keep my sanity. I feel like I check my email every 5 minutes.
I feel that, but try to rest easy knowing that you've already put in all the hard work, and that schools extend interviews throughout the season. My friend last year interviewed exclusively in November, December, and January, and was accepted to three schools. The emails will come when they come, take a deep breath!

Submitted my secondary last night, look forward to some good news later!

Is it too late to add this school to my list? I just found out about it lol

I'd say go for it. All interview dates after October are basically open

I was also complete 7/12 but I feel like since I haven't heard back and others are getting II .. it's prob a silent rejection.. UGH

Does anyone know if Quinnipiac is true pass fail? Or are they H/HP/P/LP/F or some other thing like that?

They told us that the first two years are P/F only, and that during your clinical years there's some time of HP. They didn't really go into detail about it.

hey , just got my secondary.

I was trying to fill in the app stuff about my parents' income, but both my parents are doctors and I have idea how much income they make.

Will my doctor parents hurt my application?

and what am I supposed to say about what they make? I sincerely have no clue. Family income is all opaque in our house.

I wouldn't say the amount of income would make your application look better/worse. I think it's more for data collecting purposes. Also, it should be fine just throwing in an estimate. Talk to your parents and see if you can get one.

Literally can see this school from my house. Waiting for daysssssssssss, submitted on 8/12 they don't send complete email right?

The pre-clinical years are true P/F, no ranks, overt or hidden. I believe the 3rd year is H/HP/P/F and we are ranked by quintiles.

Easier said than done. For real considering adding more schools to the 25 I already have. The silence is killing me.
I have an II WVU. I place my odds of getting in there low as I'm OOS.

(really need a DO letter......)

A question for students who have already matriculated in the past: If you received any scholarships from QU, did you have to apply for them via a form, or did they automatically consider you for the grant after receiving the acceptance letter?
Thanks!

I submitted my secondary 7/20 and was complete sometime after 7/23 when my committee letter was uploaded to AMCAS 🙂

Did you feel that the group questions were difficult? Or were they more for everyone to get a sense of what everyone else was like? How long did this part of the day last for? Thanks in advance!

The group questions were very standard type questions for an interview although it wasn't actually a scheduled interview. I honestly don't know how much they weigh into the decision nor if they were suppose to be conversational (people answered in a very interview-like manner). It was luckily only 20-25 mins. If this is common, I would say just answer in a genuine manner with brevity and professionalism, but then again I'm not accepted anywhere yet (being hopeful though 🙂 ), LOL.

I just realized... I never recieved a complete email. Did you guys receive a complete email? All I got was a "secondary submitted" email...

Just a heads up, I never got an email informing me that my application is complete, but I just checked my portal, and it says my application is complete.

This seems to be the consensus!

Does anyone know how well the M3 students were matched?

Hey, I was wondering if someone could give me some suggestions where to stay and what airport to fly in and etc....? I never been to the east coast and I am flying from very far away-HI. So, I have no idea what to do, besides using common sense and looking for info in the web. Some "insider info" would be appreciated. I could possibly rent a car and also I want to stay an extra day to check out the city. My interview is on early Oct. Feel free to pm . I already foresee that is going to be a logistic /financial nightmare for me to attend my interviews 😵 from HI.

Hey! So I'm thinking about this one too. FYI: Airbnb is totally your friend if you stay in NYC. Think Harlem or the Bronx and you can get good deals. Just pay attention to reviews.

From NYC to New Haven on Metronorth is ~2hrs, cost $43.50 roundtrip, and you'll want to be at the Harlem-125th Station at around 7:45 to make sure you've sorted out your ticket so you can leave on the 8:14 train, arriving at 10:09 in New Haven, and taxi over ($$$?) to North Haven for the interview which I assume, like mine, starts at 10:45. Me, I might even err on the side of caution and take the 7:40 train that arrives at 9:27 since I have no idea what the taxi situation is like in New Haven on interview days.

But I think I do recommend this since it's actually about 2hrs and 20 minutes by car from West Harlem, where I live. It'll most likely be faster, easier, and cheaper than trying to locate a low priced rental place, getting there, paying tolls, gas, finding parking, etc. It's what I'm going to do.

In other news, if you're on a budget and want to visit bars, I recommend visiting the West 4th area, which is a nice mix of cheap for college students but super NYC because the college students are attending NYU.

If you're looking for cheap, unusual, arty, and very NYC fun, follow theskint.com. Good stuff there. Cheap broadway tickets at TKTS in Times Square.

Thanks for the reply,

So, my understanding is that I should not stay in Hamden, New Haven and stay at NYC?
I would rather stay in a place closer to school and avoid having to commute 2 hours before an Interview. I was hoping that there is a place/hotel like 20 min away from the school...

Oh man, no way. If you have the option and can get to New Haven easily the day before, I'd do that and stay in New York the next day. This info is also good for getting you out to New Haven tho, tho.

Btw, if you fly into JFK, you can take subways to the metronorth stop in grand central (~$8). If LGA, taxi to metronorth stop at 125th. Around $20.

But if your schedule is such that you'd rather chill for a day in NYC beforehand, this is how I'd choose to get there.

I would definitely do the 7:40 if I were you. If your interview is like mine, you are told to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time of 10:45. If you did the 8:14 train, this would give you 21 minutes to get off the bus, find a taxi, ride the taxi to Quinnipiac, and get inside the building. I feel like that would be really pushing it.

I'm from area. Fly into Bradley airport, take connecting flight if there isn't one available from HI. Rent a car or uber your way to Hamden. There's a best western an exit away from the medical school.

To fly into jfk is ridiculous. And staying in nyc is even more so.

The easiest and fastest way is to Bradley. However if u want to save some money, fly into jfk and take metro north to new haven. From new haven grab an uber to the best western best to the school. Or whatever hotel that's closest. Then after the interview take metro not down to grand central. From there take uber jfk. Don't foresee him saving that much money tbh.

I could save 70+ bucks flying into LGA instead of Bradley. Is it worth it? I'm definitely planning to stay around school the night before the interview. I might rent a car anyways to meet up with friends in NJ/NY after the interview.

30 dollars round trip from New haven to grand central.

Grand central is like 15 miles from from Jfk. X2

Hotel to new haven station x2

Hotel to school x2

Bradley is like 40-1hr minutes from Hamden. Don't expect to see much traffic this isn't New York. Up to you but the cost of transportstio to and from New York won't save you that much money.

Ok I already booked a flight into Bradley but saw that Lga was cheaper. Just wondering. How about transportation from Bradley to hotels near the school? QU recommended a shuttle but it costs 100 bucks. Uber just got started in my city so I don't really know how it works. Do they drive people 45+ mins like that?

they do drive 45+, honestly flying into Bradley will save you from the headache of the city. the money you would have saved flying into lga you would have spent on transportation from nyc.

Thanks for all the replies. I kinda of have a better idea now (hopefully). How is the weather in October there?
