Definitely hold on to the acceptance. It we get later in the cycle you could even email them and tell them that you really want to go there, but have a cheaper option- negotiate!

I read in the MDapps site that a few students who were accepted in previous years received half to full scholarships.

I believe we don't find out much about that stuff until after FAFSAs and all that good stuff

It's always possible their finger slipped over the send button earlier than they wanted. It's addressed correctly, so hopefully it's not a mistake lol. Was not expecting to hear back from here any earlier than Thanksgiving, so I really have no idea. It also could be the people I interviewed with just happened to be quick in giving feedback, or what not. Who knows how they do it. But good luck 😀

Yes they do offer a few scholarships. I think there are 3 that you can write essays for and one that is based on financial need. They are $15,000 each a year. You can find them on the school website. Ours were due March/April and they tell you if you got it a month later.

They do 2 interview days/week (Monday and Friday) every week. I think next week is the start of the 3 interview days/week. The last interview dates will probably be in March.

First acceptance today!! Interviewed 9/11. Still waiting to hear back from several schools, but this is definitely a viable option for me - I love the program! Such a relief! Congrats to everyone else! 🙂

During my second 45 minute interview I was only asked one question (the answer was interrupted) and the faculty guy interviewing me talked about himself the entire time- his upbringing, meeting his wife, his graduate school interviews, his PhD studies, where he lived in the area, how the school recruited him, his job security at Quinnipiac, his position at Quinnipiac, his future with the school, what he was trying to accomplish, etc. It was like an autobiography interview. I never got to really express myself or my interest in the school/medicine.

Then later in the day when the Dean was talking to all of us around the round table he asked me how I liked scribing in the emergency room (been doing it for over a year). He said, "I bet you must love it in the ER and the docs are probably recruiting you to be an ER doc." I told him that the experience actually had pushed me away from pursuing emergency medicine (the truth lol) and before I could even say "because" he interrupted me and said "you're just saying that because we are primary care focused" and moved on to the next student.

I really liked the school, but yea it didn't feel like it went well. OH WELL. happy for all of you accepted
 
For those accepted, did you see the tab on your portal regarding the Pre-matriculation program? I had it earlier today and signed up for it but the tab totally disappeared. Is it only available to the first 30 or so acceptances, or do they all show up and disappear like that at some point?

Also, just out of curiosity, how many of you are considering the pre matriculation program? I think it's a great opportunity to get a head start in med school!
 
Did anyone who interviewed here not express a huge focus on primary care? How did that go?

I don't know if this counts, but I expressed interest in an IM subspecialty. (And I expressed my specialty interest in my PS, which has been working perfectly fine for me even though people on this site say you shouldn't)

There were people who said surgery at my interview and quite a few EM people. If that didn't stop them from getting interviews, I doubt it would prevent them from being accepted.

Oh dear god this was exactly what mine was like for the faculty interview....
 
I actually had a great conversation about the primary care aspect during my interview. It sounded like students aren't deterred at all from pursuing a specialty and it's more the way the curriculum is taught through a primary care lens and then through the MeSH program. I lucked out and got to spend my faculty interview with the MeSH coordinator who I actually had a lot in common with. Crossing my fingers I hear back soon!!

I'm wondering the same thing! I am interested in the pre-matriculation program too, but haven't seen much info on how the logistics actually work.

I love interviews like that and do very well with them, haha. (But that wasn't how my interview was here)

In my interview I was only very very tangentially asked why the school and why medicine. The questions made it clear that they were just trying to suss out a certain type of student, so I don't think it is necessarily bad if you didn't talk about why the school/medicine

Yes it says so under the acceptance instruction:
This deposit will be applied to your first semester's tuition and is only refundable via an email request addressed to the associate dean for admissions at [email protected]. The request must be received by 11:59 PM on April 30, 2016 and it will be acknowledged via email upon receipt.

Any more acceptances since 10/19? The wait is... awful. I feel like a dead snail. That's the only way to describe it. lol. :help:
 
I have competed my secondary like July 10. Why have they not reached out at all? Does this school do silent rejections?

A student interviewer asked me this at another school, and I just used it as an opportunity to tie all of the threads of my application together. I had a lot of service experience working with disadvantaged populations, and I applied myself as disadvantaged, so I said that I would love to attend the school because of its focus on working with underserved populations, and mentioned how my experiences would help me to do that. I also said the school, based on its mission, would be a perfect fit for my goals because of these experiences.

Really, this is open-ended question meant for you to advocate why you would be a great fit for the school. Be creative with it and have fun.

I believe I answered this a while back in this thread, but this is your chance to tell the committee about who you are beyond your application. I took the time to talk about how much I value diversity and how it has been an integral part of my life, and also how it will help me as a future physician.

This may or may not be a stupid question, but this is my first acceptance, so I'm not sure how it works. Is it okay to join multiple groups if we are accepted to multiple places? To ask questions, chat with students, etc. and then leave the groups of the schools we eventually do not attend?

No, as soon as you join one of those accepted student groups on Facebook, you are agreeing to matriculate there. Stay safe.

😛 lol I figured it was fine I just want to know if it's looked down upon, per say. I would feel badly joining a bunch of groups and then leaving most of them, but that's the way the cookie crumbles

I'm going to be joining all of them, because it'll just be another resource to learn about the school. If you're not sure where you're matriculating, it would be totally legitimate to join those groups to help you make your decision. I don't think anyone will look negatively upon it, but who knows, I'm just another future med student!

Not a lot compared to other interviews I've been on. Everything is in the one building, although there is a decent amount of walking in the building and walking up and down a few flights of stairs. But compared to other schools, not that much.

You never leave the building! I stayed in my heels, but one girl next to me changed into flats. I think you should be fine in heels if you don't want to bring extra shoes.

Thanks! I love heels and am usually okay walking distances in them but with these dang pantyhose making the dang things slippery it's a whole different story :sour:
