2015-2016 Quinnipiac University (Netter) Application Thread

anyone else interested in this school from places with no snow??

I'm legitimately concerned about learning to drive on ice. I'm from the dirty south where 2 inches of snow shuts down school for 2 days.
The primary affiliate medical center, St. Vincent, is 30-45 min away.

i'm gonna die, people. i'm gonna die.

I've lived in CT my whole life and that's still a major concern for me! But honestly it's up to you. If you want to enjoy the seasons of the northeast, you'll have to deal with the icy periods too. Generally they do a good job of cleaning up the roads, but sometimes you have to drive really, really slowly. One thing to think about is that the lectures are posted online, so that gives you a chance to stay home and study. If you have exams you are out of luck, but i'd assume that with med school exams you'll be camped out in the med school building overnight anyway! (and the building does seem to have a lot of comfy spots to snooze)
 
not a single one of the admission staff is a physician. very very interesting.
 
Anyone know how this school is with providing financial aid grants/scholarships? I saw in previous years in MDApp may students did receive half to full tuition. I wonder if they are still doing this with the new increase in class size

I'm not sure if he's part of the admissions staff, but I was interviewed by a physician, who is in charge of the mesh program and teaches a little I think.

I've noticed that faculty and staff of this school are both very close. In fact, the students themselves are involved in much of the admissions stuff. So I wouldn't say physicians aren't involved in what the admissions office does.
 
Btw, is accepting the offer on the portal a hard commit? I'm extremely interested in the school, but I would like to see where the chips land before making a decision. @DrFizition

On the offer letter it says you have two weeks to decide, so it sounds like no, it's just securing your spot if you want it/want to consider it. The deposit is refundable until April 30th.
 
I was wondering if anyone knows if they ever posted there Step 1 scores from the M2 students who took it last year. I'm curious how it went as there is a lot of unknowns and step 1 scores are a pretty big deal.

I wasn't able to find them when I looked it up, but only 1 out of the 6 schools I've interviewed at so far gave an average step score. I don't know if knowing the average would say much about the school unless it is horrendously lower than the average.

Edit: Perhaps a current student would know
 
Any insight on interview day? I interview here in a few weeks. Just want to be prepared...

I don't know the exact number but I heard from current students that Netter's scores were above the national average, if that helps.

I would to hear about the schools that score on average below the national average for STep 1 scores. I haven't come across one yet. Does anyone know, or is it like Lake Woebegone, all medical school Step 1 are above average??

Honestly at the end of the day it comes down to you. Netter is accredited like any other school and that means you should be getting good quality education for M1 and M2. Step exams have a lot to do with how you study, like MCATs. Just study hard, and do practice exams to wage where you are, then self study to adjust the score.

As far as I know, no school posts the median Step scores. I'm sure there are superstars in every med school class pulling up the mean even when the median is below average

Edit: They all know how to play the game and portray themselves in the best light
 
Actually...step1 medians are available with the US compass purchase. The new schools don't have data...but many schools do.

Oh, just looked up what that was- didn't know it existed. Do you have a subscription? Are most schools' medians above the step 1 average?

I certainly would. I loved it when I interviewed. I'm gonna wait out the cycle (I have 2 more interviews scheduled and other schools still silent) but honestly did not expect to love QU as much as I did. Not sure about the pre-matriculation program yet, gonna see how life pans out with finishing my degree.
 
I feel the same way as @loconoko. Also since I'm coming straight out of college, I feel like it would be better suited for a non-trad out of college for a few years.

If I end up at Netter, I'll be doing the pre-matriculation program. I'm a first-gen student and I'll have been out of school for two years. I've lost the ability to stay up past 10-11pm without alcohol, so I need to get back into the swing of things, haha.

Haha, cool. Do you know how they select for prematric students? I kno there's only like 15 slots open but i'm not sure if it's a "first come" basis or they actually select who gets to be part of it.

I'm pretty sure they said that they favor first-gen, economically disadvantaged, and non-trad students and then spots left over go to other students

Aww man. I only have one gap year between undergrad and med school so they most likely won't pick me. I really really want to do the program too. It's weird because the application disappeared after a few days on the portal.

I didn't even see it on the portal when I went to place a deposit when I was accepted (this Friday 10/23). I don't think I had the option. So maybe they will open it up later? I can't remember what information they gave about it on interview day.

Don't worry; I'm sure there aren't too many people excited to start school early, haha. Even I'm not too sure if I want to do it because I've never been out of the country...or really anywhere, so I might use July to travel instead. And the portal was there when I accepted and is no longer available, so I think they just aren't accepting applications for that yet.

This was my first secondary filled out. Nothing. Do they do post-secondary rejections? I emailed them and said "yo where is my app at homies" all they said was "chill, dawg you'll heard from us when you hear from us"

It is the first email I sent to any medical school thus far. I really want to go hear, badly.
 
Secondary submitted on 08/29 and have not heard anything since...anyone else in the same boat?
