II just now for 12/17! Complete mid-September, IS. Saw an early January date open as well.

Anyone know if TTEP is still giving out invites?
 
Just got off phone with Dr. Snelling - the last II date is Jan 14th and latest you could hear about them is the New Year's week. I wasn't really interested in Foster that is until I looked at their outstanding Step 1 scores so I'm hoping I get a chance to interview here!
 
Dr. Snelling mentioned they had 40 more spots to fill in the class - so 40% of the class remains to be selected!!!

Ahhh interesting! What were their step 1 scores and how did they compare to the other Texas schools?
 
235? Wow they are definitely doing something right then... last I checked they had the lowest MCAT average for accepted students so from that to a step score that rivals UTSW or Baylor is impressive

Yeah that is quite paradoxical. It's truly a testament to their curriculum I suppose. Although, keep in mind TTEP has half the class size as UTSW or Baylor. But still, very impressive averages.

Sadly didn't pre-match anywhere else. I am still trying to weigh all my options as I am waiting for other interview results. I do have to say I was incredibly impressed by the school and their presentation during the interview day.

And I want to reiterate that with prematch, they have 60% of seats filled meaning 40% remaining. Also keep in mind, they are not guaranteed those 60 seats either becuase people might match to higher ranked schools.

There's a lot of time for IIs!!! I think on last year's thread someone got an interview invite 3 days before Christmas.

Thanks!!! I've heard so many good things about El Paso.
El Paso was voted most relaxed, comfortable, and favorite city to live in by med students.
TTEP Step 1 averages 235!!!!!!

I wanted to ask if anyone can provide feedback for the interview day itself. I am trying to schedule a flight from Houston and wanted to know what time the interview day ends so I would have time to make my flight back.

Yes, I sent a letter of interest to Foster like mid-Nov. I actually spoke to Dr. Snelling over the phone last Thursday to ask the status of my app and he said that I am in the pool that could be considered for II and received my II this morning!

What number is that you called..? I sent a loi a couple weeks ago and nothing.

Yep, I have one other acceptance. I don't know at the moment which one I would pick. They both had some very strong points, but in different areas. I absolutely love the way the preclinical years are taught at Foster. I interviewed at a lot of places and theirs was hands-down the best in that regard. It will be a hard decision.
 
Hi! I have a couple of questions about the curriculum -

Is pathology taught separately in the second year? I know that the curriculum is system-based and integrative, but do students truly learn absolutely everything about, say, the renal system, including disease states, before moving on the next unit? And in general, why is the preclinical curriculum considered better than other integrative curriculums in Texas, like the ones at UTHSCSA or Baylor?

Hey congrats on the II! I interviewed yesterday and we stuck to the 8-3pm schedule very closely. They have the shuttle that leaves from the school that began taking people with earlier flights right at 3pm. Then it came back for those who had later flights.

I ended up loving this school- my interviewers were incredibly nice and the facilities are smaller than other schools I have interviewed at, but they are great and the ATACS sim lab blew me away. Their curriculum is awesome- systems based and integrative but even more so I noticed that they have greater emphasis on reviewing and studying questions for Step 1 right from the beginning of classes. They have lots of testing and quizzes (formative evaluation- not for grade, but for your own improvement in weak areas). Along with how the curriculum is set up, the constant non-graded evaluation is probably a huge reason for their averages on Step 1. Of course keep in mind I'm only comparing the schools I have interviewed/applied to as comparison, but this stuck out a lot and now is a major point of comparison that I am using for other schools. There weren't that many students around because they were taking exams, but a good number showed up for the student panel at the end. If you can go to the coffee shop meet-up the night before, I highly recommend!

I was actually forwarding this information myself. I remember on one of the TX threads someone had listed avg Step 1 scores for all TX schools and TTEP stood out to me which is why I remember this number so specifically lol.

I think that the info for the Facebook page will be in the February mailing. I'm pretty sure that's how they've done it in the past.
 
Does anyone know which building to report to on the interview day? I will be using the hotel shuttle to come to campus and wanted to know if we are to report in the Medical Education Building for the interview day.

I believe it is the Medical Education Building. If there is a Subway on the 1st floor then you are in the right place! There are only 2 buildings and they are very close to each other, so everything is pretty easy to find.

I was reading through the interview day packet and noticed that in between 1st and 2nd year, for the summer it says "scholarship". Anyone remember exactly what goes on that summer?

If I remember right, I think that is when most students do their research project. I scribbled "research" in my interview day packet under that part lol
