To the people who've received acceptances, were these emails or phone calls?
Congrats! First day of open acceptance and you're in!
How much is the OOS scholarship if you don't mind me asking?
Email. The president of the medical school told our interview group they'd call you if you are one of their top choices. So I'm apparently not a "top choice" but who really cares haha 😛To the people who've received acceptances, were these emails or phone calls?
I want to say that the placement guarantee fee was due within a couple weeks of you getting your acceptance, but I may be wrong.Congrats to everyone who just got in!
I have a Question. Should we pay the Deposit Placement Guarantee Fee ($100) now or when we actually decide to attend TTUSOM in Lubbock? Thanks in advance.
Edit: Also the Criminal Background Check. My understanding is that the placement guarantee fee and background check are only for when we decide to attend (so they are like the final transcripts). Just to confirm that my understanding is correct.
This would be a good question to have answered! haha I was assuming it was due some distant day in the future but I guess that could be a really bad thing to just assume...I want to say that the placement guarantee fee was due within a couple weeks of you getting your acceptance, but I may be wrong.
Yeah, you can just email or call the admissions office to find out; everyone's super nice. This would be a good question to have answered! haha I was assuming it was due some distant day in the future but I guess that could be a really bad thing to just assume...

Hey guys, I received an IS acceptance offer today. I didn't know that was possible. What should I do?
I interviewed 8/28 but from my understanding this isn't possible until 11/15. I was thinking about calling them but I don't exactly know what to say. Also, I don't want them to take it back. Maybe, because it's an MD/MPH acceptance?Weird. When did you interview? Maybe you should call them tomorrow.

Yeah, within two weeks. The $100 fee, the criminal background check (has a $51 fee), and hitting "accept" on a couple screens under the Offer tab on the portal are all due then I believe.
Congrats! For the public Texas schools, you can hold any and all acceptances up until the match, when you emerge with just one. AFAIK, you have a couple of weeks to put down the deposit, which you should do unless you're 100% sure you're going to withdraw. It doesn't bar you from other schools, and most schools will refund it when you withdraw. I'm sure you could call the admissions office to know for sure, though.I want to clarify that you can have multiple acceptances until April correct, like accepting this and putting down the deposit doesn't bar you from other schools.
Do you know how the scholarship process works? Is it automatic or do you submit an additional application/FAFSA?Thanks. Just realized I have to write a thank you letter to scholarship donors, too...
I heard that they give an out-of-state scholarship to all out-of-state students, so for this one there's no extra application.Do you know how the scholarship process works? Is it automatic or do you submit an additional application/FAFSA?
When were you complete?II today for nov 13th
Congrats I'm so happy for you!! I submitted almost a month after you and I'm in the worry boat now 🙁6/18.. i was getting really worried
Same position as you. Was transmitted at this school mid-late July.Congrats I'm so happy for you!! I submitted almost a month after you and I'm in the worry boat now 🙁
I see you texan2414 and by your posts I can tell you've been stressed lately but I just want to let you know I hope everything works in your favor. It's a waiting game and from what I've seen on here/heard from friends in med school, patience is key. Don't let those cortisol levels get so high that you burn out before med school even starts. Enjoy the time of not knowing where you'll end up in a year bc once school starts you'll want to tell your old self to have just relaxed and not have been so worried all the time. I know this probably means nothing coming from a stranger but this is the advice I've been giving myself every day for the past few months. What's meant to happen will happen. If it's in our destiny, no one can take it from us. So keep that chin up, my man!Same position as you. Was transmitted at this school mid-late July.
Wow thank you so much!!! It's essentially all half days.
Besides anatomy (first block of first year), where you'll have lab and lecture pretty much all day, it's only morning classes, which can vary a little but are generally 8-12 or 9-12. Second year is (to the best of my knowledge) the same, but in the afternoon (so 1-4ish). Class (for the most part) isn't mandatory either, and they usually get lecture videos uploaded same day or next day. There will be occasional afternoon things, about once or twice a month, that are required.
Grading is Honors/High Pass/Pass, with point equivalents at 91/87/70. I'm pretty sure we're ranked, but I don't know the specifics.
Before you start classes, you're assigned to one of four campuses: Lubbock-UMC, Lubbock-Covenant (my class will be the first to rotate here), Amarillo, or Odessa/Midland. You can appeal your assignment at the start of second year, if you don't like it or if life circumstances change. At each one you only work in the one hospital (two for Odessa/Midland), as far as I know. You're also able to set up away rotations for fourth year.
Things I wish I had known...I can't really think of anything; as long as you do your homework and come in prepared to work hard, you should be in good shape. Getting into med school is the real challenge, once you're in, you're pretty much set. I would like to remind y'all that there's no reason to pre-study, though!
Glad to hear they still interview OOS after October 15th. Congrats!II yesterday. Kinda unexpected as I'm OOS, but I'll take it!!
Thanks! It's worth noting I'm from a bordering county and my hometown is two and a half hours from Lubbock. But I had basically given up on hearing from Lubbock. I guess it's never too late! I've heard of OOSers getting accepted to TX schools as late as February, so there is definitely reason to keep your chin up! GL!Glad to hear they still interview OOS after October 15th. Congrats!
II today for nov 13th
I didn't find anything concrete. I counted the number of people on the most recent match list (which likely includes scrambles), and there were 131. I would estimate the number of people in the class applying at around 145, so that would give a 90% match rate. Take that with a big grain of salt, though, because it is based purely on assumptions.Hey @Chillbo Baggins,
Do you know what percent of Tech grads when unmatched last year? I've been searching online and I can't find it. Thanks!
I don't know the exact dates, but TTU interviews until January. Available dates should open up later.Does anyone know if any additional interview dates will open for Lubbock? I already scheduled an interview date at Baylor during the only available time that Lubbock's interview date is open...
Just call the office. When I got my invite they only offered one day but it was easy to reschedule.Does anyone know if any additional interview dates will open for Lubbock? I already scheduled an interview date at Baylor during the only available time that Lubbock's interview date is open...
For the FMAT program you have an extra interview with one of the faculty that holds a position on the FMAT board. They will then decide if you are fit for admission into the general class first then decide if you are a good fit for FMAT.How does FMAT fit into the interview process? Do those interested in FMAT interview at a certain time/receive certain questions, or does that only come into play after you are accepted?
For OOS'ers who were accepted, how long after your interview did it take to hear back?
I talked about the poverty of my hometown and the fact that I'm from a critically underserved area. I tied my dislikes of my hometown to things that lead to poor health outcomes. However, I'm not so sure I would've been able to take that approach if I was from Houston.Just curious here because my LizzyM is around the average for the school but I haven't heard back. How did those who got IIs here answer that secondary question about hometown likes/dislikes?
I live FAR from west Texas in one of the state's largest cities and I really didn't have anything bad to say about Houston. Then again, just because I love my hometown doesn't mean I wouldn't be willing to relocate to west Texas after med school/residency
