2015-2016 Texas Tech University - Lubbock Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Out of curiosity, did those of you who interviewed feel like the interviewers had a good knowledge of your file?

I feel like my two interviews may as well have been closed-file; neither of my interviewers brought up a single thing from my application or knew about my background.

@Chabonaso, one of my interviews literally started with "In honesty I have not been able to look at your essays or application.. So tell me about yourself" lol.

The other interviewer seemed to be looking at my app during the interview.

Does anyone know if Uber is prevalent in Lubbock? I had a hard time getting one from my hotel to my interview last time, so I want to plan ahead if necessary. Thanks!

Also, congrats to those accepted!

Hey does anybody know anything about the integration of the gender focus in the curriculum? Is that something for next year or is that already happening? Kinda interesting since I haven't really seen it in other curricula

https://www.ttuhsc.edu/som/curriculum/sgbm_curriculum.aspx
I haven't really seen or noticed this in our classes at all. We are starting our behavioral sciences section, though, so there might be something there.

has anyone sent in a letter of intent here?

No, but I probably will after fall semester grades come out. I thought that my interviews here went really great, but I seem to have been put on the waitlist as OOS. :ninja:

My interviews were great as well. Unfortunately, one person in my group got interviewed by a PhD and was asked to draw the amino acid Tryptophan. :wtf:

Are you for real? That's a new one I've never heard of before!

I just withdrew from my pre-match here. I think this is a great school, but not really an option for me. I hope one of you guys gets my spot.

Does anyone know what the discounted hotel rate is at the hotel recommendation they give on the portal?
(p.s. if anyone interviewing on 12/4/15 hould like to split a hotel, PM me)

I don't but since the base rate was so high, I didn't expect much of a discount. Guesthouse inn is about a 5 min drive away and cost about $70/night. Not the best but better than a motel. Also within walking distance of a CVS and some restaurants.

Cool
I'll check it out

Yes - use it often

Hey does anybody know anything about the integration of the gender focus in the curriculum? Is that something for next year or is that already happening?

It's ongoing, adding more each year.

It is integrated into systems 2nd year. You will also do modules either in 2nd or 3rd year (can't remember) from curriculum developed by the Laura Bush Institute for Women's Health (http://www.laurabushinstitute.org), on differences in diabetes, osteoporosis, etc. Lots of opportunities for research in this area too, as they are always looking for students to help develop the new modules.

There is also a gender conference each fall (same institute, but conference is in Lubbock whereas institute is based in Amarillo). Pretty interesting. Last year the focus was on pharmaceutical studies (FYI - they pretty much aren't done on women, but that is changing). I've learned a lot.

Oh, and interviewers get everything but your grades and MCAT. Screeners see everything, then scores get taken out for interviewers. (Although sometimes institutions - especially those with committee letters - put that in their description of candidates, so it is accidentally conferred.) Whether or not people have read your info before they see you is a matter of preference, but everyone has to read everything before scoring you as scoring includes things you've been involved in, which is found in essays and TMDSAS lists. Some people want you to expand upon your app in interviews; others want to discuss completely different things since they've already read about you.

Withdrawing my acceptance, too. This was one of my favorite schools 🙁 Good luck.

Who is it best to send a letter of intent to? The dean or just the general admissions email?

So I had one rather unpleasant interviewer. On the feedback form, how specific/detailed/blunt should I be? He was... quite frankly, horrible.

I don't want the feedback to negatively impact me, but I really think they ought not let him interview students. Any advice appreciated on achieving a delicate balance. Thanks!

I had a similar experience, and people I spoke with another school said that administrators definitely want to know about this sort of thing. I think a big factor is how specific you can be in your description of the problem interviewer's behavior including exact quotes etc. if you feel strongly about it, I would definitely send a letter to the dean of admissions.

Can you PM me what happened?

I think they most definitely want to know; admissions is always looking to improve the interview experience. I honestly don't think it would impact your placement, but I understand being wary of complaining. If you don't want to do it officially but would like to PM me, I can anonymously pass it on.
(Anonymous for you, not me, obviously.)

No one wants a misplaced interviewer scaring off great candidates. And if you've scored interviews, you are great candidates!

Can anyone still view their secondary application on their portal? It isn't even loading the page to login on mine.

Has anyone who got accepted here been able to successfully set up their eraider account?

I tried but I don't think it was successful: never got an email back.

The IT guy doesn't know what he's saying then -_-
I called them because I wasnt able to and he told me I wouldn't get access until next June when I'm actually accepted??? his words. Is the eraider account like your email?

Sorry for the ignorance. What's eraider's account? I was accepted and did not get any information about this.

Really? I got like 4 emails from them telling me to go set it up. Here's a clip of the email:

"We know that you have received an offer for admission into one of our health care programs (e.g. Medicine, Pharmacy, Allied Health, Nursing, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences). You must maintain an e-mail account through the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center or Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso for official communication purposes.

You will use your current eRaider account to access online services at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center or Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso. ""

I figure it's important, so hopefully you can reach someone that can help you. I guess I should call back, but if it's the same person idk what to say haha.

for those of you that already interviewed, how long after your interview did it take for texas tech to show up on your rank list on tmdsas?

Thanks. I didn't even receive an email about my acceptance until I checked TMDSAS. Will try to call them next week.

Does anyone know if we have to pay the $100 placement guarantee fee as part of accepting the pre-match acceptance offer? I'm just wondering because I don't want to pay the $100 if we don't need to while we hold multiple pre-matches.

Yes. The 100$ is due by November 30th if you want to keep the pre-match offer. I think it might be refundable though if you end up going somewhere else. It is refundable before a certain date at Texas Tech El Paso

Do you think if i graduated from a Teas college I would have a better chance? I am a Texas resident and was born and raised here. But go to college in Idaho.

Thanks for the information!

I don't think school location has much to do with it. I'm a Texas resident, born and raised, and went to school in Colorado. I think it just depends on what the admissions committee is looking for.

Is there a chance to leave the interview a little early? I'm trying to make a 555 flight

The times of your two interviews are variable, so you may finish earlier than 5 or whatever.

However, the security at the airport takes about 3 minutes to get through, so even if you finish at 5, it takes 10-15 minutes to get over there, and you'll have plenty of time.

I can second the security comment! Basically walked right through.

Got an II here today. I'm not doing it though. Hope one of ya'll waiting gets my spot! Good luck!

I applied MD/MBA and interviewed back on October 9th. They couldn't schedule my MBA interview that day so they said they would do the phone or Skype interview. It's been almost 2 months and still no word. What do you guys think is going on? I even called admissions and they said they would make sure I wasn't forgotten.
