Congratulations! Can you describe your interview day - the types of questions they asked, your opinion on clinical curriculum and opportunities, and anything you liked/disliked about the school?
Sorry for the delayed reply, been a busy few days.
The interview day consisted of a short morning information session, a standardized patient behavioral interview, a tour of a part of the medical campus/sim center/student lounge, lunch/simultaneous student interview and a faculty interview.
I don't really remember specific questions that I was asked other than "Why Tulane?" but I will say both interviews were very, very relaxed. I really enjoyed the conversations I had with both my student and faculty interviewer. One other question that came up consistently was whether or not we (interviewees) were staying around in the city for extra time, so if you can swing it, definitely hang out a bit in New Orleans to express your interest. The school really emphasizes the importance of the community in everything they do.
I wrote down notes about the clinical curriculum from the presentation, but specifics escape me at the moment. They did just open a brand new hospital less than two months ago which students will be rotating through. Most rotations are in New Orleans at one of the Tulane teaching hospitals, and someone talked about a few at Ochsner. There are also opportunities to go to more rural areas of Louisiana for rotations in FM, etc. And there are opportunities in Baton Rouge as well. If you want to know something more specific let me know and I can check my notes when I get home from work tonight.
As for likes/dislikes, my feelings toward the school are
overwhelmingly positive. I spent a lot of time in the student lounge during the day talking to the med students. All seemed very laid back and genuinely happy. Everyone I talked to positively gushed about both their experiences at the school and their lives in New Orleans. I'm very interested in work with the urban underserved, and Tulane has an incredible number of student run clinics (7 or 8 if I remember correctly) that operate in these environments and provide opportunities for early clinical experience and outreach. I love their focus on the community as their top priority, and the fact that students/faculty/support staff all seemed genuinely happy to be there. I'm definitely hoping to hear good news from here starting Thursday!
If you have other questions, feel free to reply/PM me and I'll try to answer. I have the memory of a goldfish, so specifics aren't a strength of mine, but I'll check my notes too if it's something I don't know off of the top of my head.
EDIT: Should have added that both of my interviews were closed file.
