2015-2016 University of Iowa (Carver) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's hard to say. I received one large grant that I don't know too many specifics about. There's no merit aid, but I also am not a stellar merit candidate so it's possible you'll have that.

Alrighty! Well thanks for your help! 🙂

Congrats. Does anyone have any idea of the average merit or need-based aid they give out? Maybe based on what you heard from past years?

It's been a long swim in the pool.

I've been swimming in this pool long enough. Loved Iowa (have a good friend in a PhD program there), but got into U of Michigan as instate 2 days ago, so I can't beat that. I'll be getting my towel, and out of the Hawkeye pool to be a Wolverine. Good luck to those still swimming! Great school.

Congrats! Don't steal all the towels on the way out

Congrats @Rainbow Zebra, U Mich is such a great program!

As an aside, I am still wavering on all my acceptances, but the more I think, the more I am seriously leaning towards Iowa. :hardy:
And for good reasons I'm sure. I loved this program so much (first interview so I might have been starry eyed). I've since been accepted to two schools in my home state which are wonderful programs. However, Iowa made such an impression (emotionally and financially) that I think that's where I'll end up!

@Kylie317

I agree completely. My interactions with Iowa have been so positive that they continue to win me over. It also helps that even though their OOS cost is high, the final cost after aid will be quite fair.

Congrats @Rainbow Zebra .

I am already in at my in-state school, but I will trade being a Hoosier for a Hawkeye any day.

I'm still on waitlist for Indiana and MSU, but my ranking for places that I interviewed was: Michigan, OSU, Iowa, Indiana, MSU. Big 10 rules!!
Only regret was not getting an interview at Northwestern, and was put off by Wisconsin's instate bias so I didn't apply.
Would have rounded out the Big 10 nicely.

Does anyone know which decisions will be released? is it either accepted, rejected, or waitlisted?

I really hope we are right in that decisions will be tomorrow and not next Tuesday 🙁
Hahaha that would be tragic! We've been so fixated on March 8th...

Think it's safe to assume that, if we're going to hear something, we should hear by ~5 PM CST?

I'd guess yes -- you could check the old threads to see when people were posting in prior years.

I was thinking last night how crappy it would be it doesn't end up being tomorrow -- we've been pretty set on tomorrow being the big day (our own personal Super -- or Not-So-Super -- Tuesday) but I only recently realized there's really no guarantee it will be. It's hard to temper expectations when so much is at stake. Waiting so long to hear back from a school you really want to go to gets to you, man... I generally don't get too wrapped up in things out of my control, but I also generally don't want anything in life this badly.

This thread honestly helps a lot -- I feel like I'm in a virtual team huddle with you guys and wishing for the best for us all.

Happy Super Tuesday to those still treading water in the final pool. Good luck to all.

I don't think today's the day. There were no "rural" tab sightings or any other changes to the portal page

Actually last year the rural tabs showed up on 3/3, the same day the decisions came out.

Apparently the email gets sent out four hours after the secondary website is updated so will be checking the website neurotically. Also being hella pessimistic and thinking the worst

It wasn't until just now that I started having physiological responses...those symptoms of anxiety I always got before giving impromptu speeches in HS English (i.e. maladaptive and disproportionate to the situation).

Damn fight-or-flight response. May we all get through today in one piece.

Work is going to go extra slow today

Because it will undoubtedly be asked, here is some data I found in previous threads about waitlist acceptances. These are not precise, as are based on people's postings. Numbers are based off original WL number.
