2015-2016 University of Pittsburgh Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just submitted my secondary. Definitely a reach for me. My mcat is 516 and my gpa a 3.7 with strong upward trend. I'm hoping my 15,000+ hours of research, 3,000+ hours of clinical work, and great LORs will help offset my less-than-stellar-for-Pitt stats.

I thought those were great stats....:wideyed:

In general i agree, but i'm really intimidated by their median 3.9 cgpa and sgpa and their 36 mcat. We will see!

haha yes, sadly, in the eyes of adcoms, i'm horribly old and non traditional at the age of almost 28!

28 is young! I am well above 30 and I got a II. I am sure you will get lots of love from adcoms soon. I am also convinced there is a randomness on whose invitations are sent out first (random piling of documents, perhaps?).

Way over 30 and still showing the pokemon love. Nice 🙂 And congrats on your II, that's encouraging. I've never viewed myself as "old" and know that when, one day i wake up old, that i'll go through an existential crisis. I'm afraid that applying to all these schools where median age is 23/24 and anything above that is considered "non traditional" is hastening the arrival of said crisis.

Any MSTP applicants here? I'm not sure what to do about the recommendation part since my research letters are already included in my committee letter packet. Seems pointless to bother my letter writers to send a letter that the school already has.

MSTP here. When you add them as recommenders on the MSTP application, an email will automatically be sent to them requesting they submit the letter (the email is only sent once you actually submit the MSTP supplement though). I just separately emailed my two research PI's and let them know beforehand. I'm sure they won't mind since it doesn't take that much work on their part. Idk why the MSTP committee doesn't just download them from AMCAS as well...beats me.

Alright I'll just send them a heads up email beforehand. Thanks!

ugh now a new problem- the application's not letting me change my field of interest and choose new mentors. Why must you make my life difficult, Pitt.

edit: lol nvm it was just a browser issue. Screw you, Firefox.

MSTP applicant here: my application status says "awaiting screen". Do any MSTP applicants NOT have that for their status?

I have the same status and was wondering the same thing.

Hm, perhaps they haven't started looking at MSTP applicants yet...? not sure if any MSTP have received IIs already. I'll have to look through the previous pages ^^; I submitted my Pitt app pretty late though (7/19) so i'm not expecting they'll have looked at it already haha

Yeah, it took one of my letter writers a bit to get my application completed so I'm sure I'm later in the queue as well. I've also noticed you in some other threads I follow as well so we must be applying to similar places. Good luck to us both!

Likewise! 🙂 Hope we'll both hear good news this cycle~

I also have the same status. Although my app wasn't complete until today because my Committee Letter was only just submitted.

I can't find a status. All mine says is secondary complete. Where is it supposed to say they are screening? Did you get a "complete" email?

I didn't but everything is marked received.

Yours says secondary complete? Mine still says "Invited to complete supplemental application" at the top of the status page, with "Supplemental Application Submitted", "Application Fee Paid", and "Letters of Recommendation Completed" below that.

same for me and I submitted 7/13

That's what mine says; when I said "secondary complete" I was referring to how it said my secondary was submitted. Thanks for the reply. I was just worried, because some MSTP people said theirs said something about screening.

For MSTP applicants, the "MSTP Application Status" says "Awaiting Screen". The regular MD application says "Invited to complete supplemental application."

Anyone know UPitt complete applications, interview, acceptance, and matriculation numbers?

Anyone know UPitt complete applications, interview, acceptance, and matriculation numbers?

I'll assume if you're asking this question, you don't have access to MSAR.

Applications: 5534, Interviewed: 855, Matriculated: 147.

MSAR doesn't have acceptance information so not sure how many of the 855 were accepted. Their website might have something.

Yup, my MSAR expired August 1st unfortunately. Still deciding if I should renew it.

The general rule is that schools accept 2-3x the size of their class (in total, including waitlists).

If I submitted 7/8 and I haven't heard anything yet, does that mean I was put on hold? And has anyone gotten a rejection yet?
