Is there a way to tell the Status of your Secondary application? All it says is:

Confirmed: xx:yy AM, July 20, 2015 (PST)

Did you get the VTC helpdesk email immediately after submission? It says in there that applications are reviewed in "batches," and that your application basically goes into the oldest batch. I got an Under Review email 3-4 days after that, which was on 7/24.

You mean the email with the subject line "Your Secondary Application has arrived at VirginiaTech Carilion SOM" or are you referring to another email? This is the only communication I have from VT.

What do you guys think if I have 700 words for one of the essays? Too much? I know it says approx 500-600..trying to decide if this would hurt my application if I submitted one with 700.

There is an email after that because I received a complete email that talked more about the process. My complete email came 13days after the "Secondary has Arrived" email

I got one prior to the "Secondary Has Arrived" that confirmed submission of the online form. Then I got the "Secondary has Arrived." I am not sure what else you're looking for. Aside from the "Complete" email mentioned above, no school is going to constantly update you about where your app is. As long as you know that they have it and that they are not missing anything, then you just have to wait like the rest of us.

just received secondary ! happy that the fee is only $50!
hoping to crank this one out asap

secondary received! got an email saying my primary received three days ago! happy for the turnaround!

Sec received this am!
Good Luck everyone

My A and B essays are around 190 words each. I wrote about similar topics for other schools that limited me to 1,000 characters. Is that bad or should I find a way to add more? I don't want to screw the secondary up.

@kbr115 I think they said 500-600 words? I might think about adding a little more to get closer to that, but if you think you've said all you can say, it's up to you 🙂

I've finished my secondary but I only have 3 LORs so far, the standard 2 science 1 non-science. The school says the minimum is 3 but they prefer 4 including one from a healthcare professional, but I'm still waiting for 2 of my LORs (one from the clinic where I volunteer the other from a physician) and have no idea whether it will take 1 week or 1 month before I get them.

Am I better off submitting the app today with 3 LORS or waiting potentially weeks until I get all 4?

I take back my words! Both of my essays ended up being just under 600 words...I hope I didn't write words just for the sake of filling up the maximum words allowed. 🙁 I promise myself to keep my optional essay extremely concise!
I basically combined two diversity essays haha

Does anyone know if the first essay must be about service leadership?
While they did mention service as a mission/value, I'm under the impression that they want any time or event. The last sentence doesn't specify:

"Describe an event or a time when your personal contribution was instrumental to the success of a team or made a positive impact on someone else's life."

I wrote about my sports team.

Submitted! 3.3uGPA / 3.76 medical SMP GPA / 91st% MCAT / 6 years research with 4 publications. I think I gel the most with VTCSOM and I'd be really happy to go back to the state I was born and raised in all my life! Super excited so I hope I'm shown some love! Good luck everyone🙂

Anybody have an interview invite? If so how long after you sent your secondary did you get it ?

It looks like the first II's last year went out August 11, so hopefully they'll come in soon!

Anyone else having a hard time filling the word requirement/recommendation? I'm so used to writing short essays for secondaries that this one is uber long...

I'm writing about my research internship and all that jazz for the first essay.. Is it inappropriate to write in detail about some of it?

Is there a way to check the status of our application or do we just have to wait for email updates?

I'm wondering, do we get one more email after the one that says, "Your secondary application has arrived at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine?"

After that one I got a " Your Virginia Tech Carilon SOM application is complete." Not sure if anything else follows..

Congrats to everyone with II! It looks like they're reviewing the later submissions first?

Never mind. I forgot that I also had received a complete email July 28 even though I submitted earlier. I mistakenly thought the people getting interviews had submitted later.

Submitted finally!

Hoping for some good news.

I am a "non-trad" with research in a professional laboratory (R&D) for a company not related to medicine... Hope that doesn't deter me any!
