2015-2016 Wright State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm also a recent grad of Boonshoft (as of last May) and doit4themunki is a perfect example of the kind of really awesome, genuine people that made medical school amazing (we still chat even though residency is super busy!)

It's a truly warm, welcoming community and I hope it continues to get the attention it deserves from future applicants. You'll be so well prepared for residency, in literally whatever you want to go into. I'm usually more of just someone who reads these forums from time to time instead of posting, but her message brought back a lot of good memories.

Good luck to all of y'all in the process this year!
Congrats! what did you specialize in/ which residency did you choose?!

Here's the match list from my class, I'm in there somewhere: Match List 2015

Notably, about 40% of our class stayed in Ohio and quite a few others stayed in the region. We matched in very competitive specialties (ortho, plastics, etc.) and at top programs (Stanford, Duke, Washington University, Hopkins, etc.) from coast to coast--but no matter where you go after or in what specialty, we were all empowered to make good decisions in an environment supportive of finding your best fit.

Boonshoft doctors are, almost to a person, compassionate and talented clinicians. We're well positioned for leadership in primary care or specialties, and I think our reputation has continued to strengthen nationally!

I interviewed at this school yesterday and it was fantastic! Nice facilities and super personable admissions people that seemed invested in keeping their students happy. This place is a gem.

As you all can see from the interactions of the MS1s on this board, people tend to gel very well here! So, if you're worried about the vibe of the program (and who isn't, honestly), I can say that I thoroughly enjoy being here, even amidst the myriad of BUCKEYE fans :yuck::yuck::yuck:

any tips for interview? 🙂

Be yourself. If you received an interview invite, you are probably able to handle things academically. Now they are going to check to see if you would be a good fit for our family.
good to know! thank you!

I interviewed here yesterday. One word. Impressive! The Boonshoft family is absolutely wonderful! Definitely my top choice. Come on WSU!
How was the interview day?

It was great. As you have read numerous times on this forum from current and past students, the goal is to get to know who you are as a person and if you would be a good fit with their school. It was a relaxed day and the interviews were very laid back. The faculty as top knotch.

glad to hear that! I am excited! Best of luck to you, and maybe we will be future classmates 🙂

My intentions are set on attending this school after that interview! So heck yeah Jmpatt29!

Any OOSers with no ties get II yet?
I have no ties to Ohio (east coast) and I already had my interview (I don't give stats because there is really so much more going into the app).

It seems like a great school. There is a diverse student body, diverse clinical settings/populations, and then Dayton has a downtown area that leads into the suburbs which leads into a middle-of-nowhere rural area, so there seems to be a lot of opportunities to explore. The curriculum also has many different modalities and seems to be set up to create a nice, unified class.

I'm excited about this school. Good luck to everyone applying!!

For those of us fortunate to receive an II early, is anyone eagerly waiting for Oct. 15th!?

We were told during our interview that we should hear from the great @macdeb59 if we were accepted on Oct. 15th.

Really pulling for this school. Amazing group of people at Boonshoft. If granted the opportunity to interview here I really implore you to do so!

Going on a 20 mile run and then kayaking this weekend so I don't have time to think about it (but I probably will anyways), haha. Can't wait for this week to be over with. Good luck!!

Do I smell another ultra-runner applying to WSU? This could be potentially dangerous.

Hahah, not at all. Mile 16-20 I usually get bored of my thoughts and have to find something else to do. I could do 100 miles on a bike, but running that sounds miserable

I have a question for current students or admissions officers:

I read on the school's website that the grading is P/F but a percentage score for each course is also listed. I was wondering if these percentage scores are included on the transcripts that get sent to residencies.

They told us during interviews that they use the %s to rank the class

I love what I am hearing and reading about this school. Even though I am OOS, I really would like Wright State to know I am interested in their program. Is the school receptive to updates? I have summer employment, new grades, and volunteer hours.

So are the percentages just used to determine the rankings and there is no record of them kept on transcripts or are they also recorded on transcripts?

I believe they are only used to determine ranks.

If I remember correctly what is reported on the transcript is P/F plus the "quintile" you were in for that class. (Example {excerpt from my own transcript}: OB/GYN - Pass, 5th quintile). As someone who has gone thru the residency application process the way things are reported is not really important tbh, how well you did in classes is going to be conveyed in your application one way or another whether it's in percentages or quintiles or in your letters.

They will take updates PRE interview I think. You can always call and ask! Or just send it.

Thanks for the clarification!

Are the interviews open file? And are they done by faculty or medical students or a mix?

Sometimes you will get both faculty depending on the availability of students. They are open file.

Just a reminder to those who get wait listed on the 15th, there was a lot of movement with our class this past cycle so keep the hope alive. I just want to reiterate how much I love it here and how awesome everyone is. I truly wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Also, interviews go until around March so it's still really early in the cycle.

Has anyone heard anything!? Silence here. Last year @Deranged Medic had his interview on 9/23 and heard back a week or so after Oct. 15th. Still hope for an accepted email?
