2016-2017 Case Western Reserve University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does this mean something's missing?
"Application Submission Status: SUBMITTED including PAYMENT. Your secondary application is finished! You only need to check back here occasionally for status updates as we wait to receive all supporting material and review your file by hand."

Is the interview open or closed file?
Actually, both are open. Your faculty interviewer can see everything except your GPA and MCAT and I can't remember exactly what the med student can see but I remember talking about things in my personal statement and activities as well as answers from the secondary (so basically everything except GPA/MCAT as well I'm assuming)

I too would love to hear any feedback from people who have already interviewed!

Is there anyone interviewing the 6th/7th who would want to hang out the night of the 6th?

I have been placed on hold this morning. University track. Submitted 8/24. 3.99/513. Good luck to everyone still waiting for a decision.

I feel like my application is just lost in the deep abyss of applications.... complete 8/16..still marked complete.

Privileged enough to have interviewed here. All I can say is that CWRU really is an amazing institution. The entire interview day was very low-stress, and all of the students/faculty were genuinely proud of their school. My two interviewers (faculty + student) were really chill. I know that for the student interviews, the interviewers are allowed to come up with their own questions. I was told that some students take that role more seriously than others; however, my overall impression was that they really just want to get to know you, and are really just conducting the interviews to make sure that you're someone they can picture themselves working/studying with, given CWRU's collaboration-heavy culture. Still kicking myself over screwing up answers to some of the questions (which admittedly weren't even the slightest bit difficult), but overall it was a great experience. Happy to answer more questions about the interview day.

Anyone knows if there is any hope for people that were put on hold?

quite the opposite to most folks: rejected from case, no word from lerner.

Any questions that you thought were unique or came to you unexpected?

I absolutely loved interviewing here. The people were fantastic and the culture at Case was conducive to success. I really hope to be accepted and good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back!

Placed on hold 2 days ago via both portal and email. Just checked the portal and my hold status update is gone. It's back to "complete". Haven't received an email update yet so not sure what to make of this.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Just checked my portal and saw I was rejected (didn't get an email). I was complete in July.

Rejected via email and on portal. Complete 07/12, LizzyM 71, OOS (Canadian applicant).

Anybody know of any things to do in Cleveland/restaurants worth eating at? I'll be getting in around 4 the day before!

If you want to get to know the University Circle area (where Case is located), on Wednesdays the art museum is free and open until nine; unfortunately, it closes earlier on other days. If you're willing to spend more and they're playing that night, the orchestra is one of the best in the nation. As for restaurants, the Little Italy area is a 10 minute walk from campus. There are plenty of restaurants: many or good, and most people in the area have a different favorite.

If you're willing to travel a bit more, the Ohio City area is quite fun, especially if you like beer. There are multiple places serving both craft beer and decent food--I'd recommend NanoBrew and Townhall. If you aren't a beer fan, there are other places like Crop Bistro, Le Petit Triangle Cafe, and the Flying Fig in the area. I'd recommend West Side Market, but unless you fly in on a Sunday, it won't be open past 4.

you NEED to check out Melt. It's a sandwich restaurant with heavy food (so maybe more appropriate for a post-II celebration) but it's incredible. also if you don't mind spending some extra $ there's Michelangelo's in Little Italy that is solid.
