2016-2017 Indiana University Application Thread

So if we do not hear something the month following our interview that likely means we are going into the holding pattern? Any chance they notify us of that? I just can't imagine interviewing early and then having to wait that long with no word 🙁

From what I read, it seems the answer is yes. All of the people that had that happen last year just sat in limbo forever. So no notification.

It seems like IUSM does acceptances each month based off stats, but I cannot confirm.

I can say I had a 509 MCAT and 3.8 GPA last year and got in around January. Hope that helps to those all anxiously waiting. The waiting game is never fun, but IU is a big school with many spots! Best of luck to all applying - I highly recommend coming to IU if you have the opportunity.

I forget where I read it but almost everyone picks the main campus as their top choice. They used to do it lottery style but students who interviewed in the fall were mad that they were placed at branches when wait listed students got the main campus. I doubt the spring interviews are only for the wait list but most schools have half the class filled by now. If they've accepted half already and those students get their first choice campus then that means less seats in Indianapolis

Once you get an acceptance, you rank your campus preference but those do not get assigned until the spring. So, it's not like it's first come first serve and the main campus is full. It's based on ranking and then it is a lottery for all admitted students.

Does anyone know if it's possible to wait to commit to IU until you've seen your campus placement? For example say you have multiple acceptances including IU, do they tell you your campus placement before that date in April when you can no longer hold multiple acceptances? That is my only fear with this school, committing and then getting a campus placement you highly dislike.

I'm pretty sure you find out where they place you before you have to make a choice

Hi, I'm an MS1-- this is correct. However, if you decide to participate in the second chance lottery, you will not receive your updated campus placement until after May 1.

How does the second chance lottery work? I was unaware they did that

Hey guys, I have been unable to attend the campus webinar sessions so far due to work/travel. Does anyone know if there are recordings of these sessions online, or if there will be a second session for students to learn about the campuses?

After initial campus placement, everyone will be sent an email where they can choose one campus they would rather attend (you do not re-rank all campuses). They shuffle everyone around and final campus placements are sent (last year they said June, but it was mid-May). If you are not re-assigned to your top choice, your initial campus placement remains.

Has anyone heard anything yet today regarding acceptance?

I interviewed on Nov 9th and am hoping that they discuss me today on their meeting for the 15th of this month. During the information session, they said people may not hear back until June. What makes them decide to send acceptances to people right after the 15th rather than wait months later to send them?

They probably won't discuss yours until at earliest next month. Most likely it is a situation where there are people who absolutely 100% are wanted by the adcom, and then others who are on hold in case they find someone who is a better fit, if that makes sense. That's why some hear back quickly, and others don't for months.

Thank you, that makes sense 🙂

What month did you interview?

Received my invitation last Tuesday. Just checked and all my documents have been marked complete. Is there any correlation with having check marks and actually receiving an interview date or did they just get my stuff processed so much faster than 4-6 weeks?

You should be receiving your date soon then

My acceptance letter was waiting for me when I came home.

The letter was postmarked Nov. 16th.

Assuming the 15th doesn't fall on a weekend, it looks like the letters go out the next day.

Good luck everyone!
Congratulations! Have you received an email and is your status changed on the portal?

Thanks 🙂

No, my portal hasn't changed nor did I receive an email.

I also live about an hour from Indy; that might have allowed the letter to reach me a business day faster than other folks.

I live about an hour and a half from Indy, and I received my acceptance yesterday as well! So hopefully there will be more acceptances arriving today or Monday for those that may be a little further away!!

Did your portal change? I live about an hour from Indy as well so I guess the fact that I haven't received anything doesn't bode well.

I apologize if this has already been asked, but does anyone know if there is a Facebook page/group for the class of 2021 yet?

Just a heads up to applicants:

I was just accepted today to the IUSOM as an OOS applicant (attended college in Indiana) but I did not receive any notification electronically. I was pleasantly surprised to see a large envelope in the mail notifying me about the acceptance. Not sure if that was common knowledge but I was expecting to receive an e-mail before I got something in snail mail. I interviewed mid September at the South Bend campus.

Did any other oos applicants without any ties get IIs? What were your stats or background experience?
