The general outline of the interview day is (assuming you have a morning interview): interview, tour of facilities, lunch with current IUSM students, and presentation over the financial aspect of medical school.

In terms of the interview itself, it can kind of vary to an extent. For example, I've had friends have 1-2 interviewers, while others had 4 or 5---I think it varies based on the location you're interviewing. Expect the interview to last 45 mins- 1hr and don't stress about it. It's a really laid back interview..it seemed more like a conversation than anything tbh. You'll do fine 🙂!

As for the weather, Indiana is always unpredictable. I've seen it anywhere from the negative digits (D=) to the low 50's (=D) in the month of January---with snow, ice, sun, and everything in between. However, it'll probably be around the mid 30's or so if I would have to guess.

If your interview location is Indianapolis, your day might be a bit different. At Indy, you have one 45 minute interview with 1-2 interviewers (very conversational, like said above) and no tour. Although, I've heard you can request a tour and a student will give you one (not quite sure how to do that though). Also for us lunch was on our own!

Also I agree with the weather prediction! (Aka it's unpredictable haha)

Interesting, yeah I'm in Indy. I'll probably tour the campus myself or explore the city. Really bummed it's not as immersive as I thought it be.

If you're interviewing in Indy, I would wear something warm but comfortable enough to walk in. Most likely you will have to park at least 2-3 blocks away from the building you sign in at, and you will have to either walk back to your car and drive or walk to nearby restaurants (~3-4 blocks). In the brunt of January, it's usually pretty cold (~10-30 degree range), but here lately its been dipping in the 0-10 range with some nasty wind. Definitely recommend checking out the city after your interview, before if you can. Downtown, the canal, war memorials, the state museum, Eiteljorg museum, Mass Ave, Broad Ripple, Fountain Square, are just a handful.

Also, I interviewed at 8:45, so I had an hour and a half break after the financial aid session and before the student panel, so it was a good time to roam around the medical school buildings with a few guys I interviewed with.

I am interviewing at South Bend on 1/11. Anyone know what that is like?
 
I don't know if this is useful to anyone, but someone in admissions told me that there are only 3 remaining interview dates. Two of those dates are 1/4 and 1/11.
 
after making your campus selection how long does it usually take for them to get back to you about your interview date?
 
The admissions office told me you interview at any campus and you pick your campus preference afterwards?

Looking at last year's thread the last interview date was 2/17. Some people were already assigned the 1/11 interview date here, so maybe the rest of the interviews will be for 1/11 and maybe a February date?
 
What are the chances of acceptance for an OOS interviewee?
 
Have portals updated for those of you in the last batch of acceptances?
 
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I didn't see anything on the past few pages... anyone know the best way to send an update to admissions... specifically, how to send in newest transcript with Fall 2016 Semester grades? Thanks.

I asked them, and they only accept updates via mail. The address is the same as the one you had to send the two forms to before your interview

I don't know if I'm violating any terms and conditions by posting stats from the MSAR, but last year they reported 5355 OOS applications, 667 OOS interviews, and 93 matriculants. That's 14% acceptance for OOS interviewees before you account for overfill.

In which direction? That's about what I've come to expect from state-sponsored schools. That said, I'd imagine that the attendance rate for accepted students is lower for OOS than IS, so it's possible that many more than 93 OOS applicants were actually accepted.
 
Where do you rank your schools? I did the directions on the main portal where it says "Accepted" but i'm not sure what to do afterwards. Thanks

Yeah it is with the new curriculum, but they still keep an internal rank so they can assign AOA membership and stuff like that.

It's P/F for Phase 1 only and no rank is kept during Phase 1. They have gone out of their way to emphasize that to us.
 
Is there any way that we can re-watch the campus webinars that IU sent us?? I haven't been able to get an answer yet, but I'm hoping hat the online sessions were recorded

For the people who were able to attend the campus webinar sessions, could you please provide me with some of the feedback that was provided for the different campuses? For example, the information provided about Indy, Bloomington, South Bend, Gary, etc.

I was not able to attend these sessions, so this information would be very helpful in ranking campuses.

This is for anyone interviewing on 1/11 in Indi. Is anyone getting there a day early and wants to grab lunch/dinner? I get there on the 9th and I'll have the 10th to sight see (first time visiting a big city, I'm from a tiny town in texas)

I'll be driving up from TN on the 10th. Not sure exactly when I'll leave.

After my account was processed (took like 4-5 business days) I clicked the link in the email that said to rank campuses. From there you click and drag the campuses to rank them and then you submit the request.

Yep I actually just got the same reply to my email. Hopefully they're quick to respond.
 
Looking at the student handbook, it looks like they have a dress code. Does anyone know any details of this like if it applies only to clinical years or if students have to dress up for class?
 
How far did you guys have to walk to find your interview location on campus? Were they hard to find? My invite says location provided at check in but I really wish I could go now and find it so I don't get lost tomorrow. Any last minute tips?

I interviewed at Riley Hospital, which was right outside the door of the check-in location. You may have to interview somewhere as far as about a 5 minute walk away, but they do provide a map with directions.

Mine was at Eskenazi Hospital, which I think was the furthest from the area that we were in initially. I had the financial aid presentation before hand and he ran over a little bit. So I had to speed walk to get to my interview ( depends what time you are scheduled ). The front desk of Eskenazi then provided me with detailed instructions how to get to the interviewers. Overall you won't get lost but be cognizant of the time.

That is far! I just got back from driving around the campus a little bit and I really hope I don't have to go that far in heels. How much time did they give you?
 
can any OOS applicants who have attended an interview please give some indication of what the day was like? I interview next week at the Gary location, but any feedback would be appreciated 🙂

I'm OOS and interviewed at the Gary location. It felt a lot like many other interview days. I interviewed in the morning. I interviewed with 2 staff members and a visitor for 30ish minutes. In the middle there was some lunch and information presented about IU, the different campuses, financial aid, etc. The campus there is really tiny, so the tours were quick. But the staff and students were extremely friendly, inviting, and interested in our success. I didn't really know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised with my interview day. Good luck!

Thank you so much! Mine was over there too and I decided to wear my ugly shoes bc I read your post. I was so thankful when I was practically jogging over there!
