2016-2017 Medical College of Wisconsin Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did they say you have an MSA interview also?

Are you referring to the masters of anesthesiology program, to become an anesthesiology assistant? If so, you're unlikely to find anyone applying here, this section of the forum is for people applying to the MD program!

Ok, looks like I need to do some more searching. Thanks for responding, I really appreciate it!

Did MCW just send a hand-signed card to every applicant!? That's crazy! 🙂

I didn't get one! Might be just to all invited interviewees, or accepted folks!

When I read about the cards I was down visiting my family for a couple days, and thought maybe one would be waiting for me. I came home yesterday and checked my mail..... And no card from MCW 🙁

sorry, I didn't realize they probably sent them to accepted people!

To those accepted, did you receive a packet in the mail yet? I've only received an email thus far.

I received my packet in the mail today. A couple of reminders and forms to fill out and an envelope to send in the deposit.

yeah I posted too soon! I got mine hours later in the mail today...zoops🙄 eager beaver over here

Can a student at MCW (or if any pre-med has insight, of course) comment on the grading system at MCW? How do you like the system compared to P/F? It seems like MCW is ABCF in disguise...

I received a packet in the mail shortly after I was accepted. I'm hoping they will send out more information about the second look day soon!

Anyone part of the MD/MS program here? I got an interview a little bit ago and want to ask some questions. (Lizzy M 68 OOS)

I looked out my window and waited for the mailman yesterday like a dog waiting for its owner to come home

I don't know the intricacies of a true P/F system, but I like our H/HP/P/LP/F system. Gives you something to shoot for, but you always remember P=MD for a little peace of mind. There are no curves or anything like that, so we really aren't competing with each other. We actually all help each other out a lot, so even if it is ABCF in disguise, it really doesn't matter in terms of the atmosphere of the school, which is very much not competitive at all.

Thank you so much for your perspective, makes me feel a lot better!

Anyone have information on timeframe to hear back from admissions at MCW?

Interviewed December 9th, received a decision the following week. They told us that it was an exceptional week though due to the holiday season. From what I hear (based on the trend of this and last year's MCW thread) I think you should reasonably expect 2-3 weeks wait. MCW is pretty fast on the turnaround.

Thanks. I have not heard anything yet. No denial or acceptance or interview request. I'm not sure what to make of that?

If you've interviewed I wouldn't sweat it. I'm really hoping you get accepted but the decision comes the same day regardless. Good luck to you.

For those that are students at MCW or for applicants who have interviewed already, can you comment on whether an interview here is worth it? I already hold multiple acceptances to schools in the Midwest in highly favorable cities and was wondering if there is anything I should consider before making a decision.

I already had acceptances when I received my II and decided to go because this school is known for its congeniality and great student support. I interviewed and was accepted and is now a major contender in where I will matriculate.

I think only you can make this decision, based on what you personally are looking for in a school. I would say that all interviews are worth it, so you can make the most informed decision possible. One of the unique things about MCW that I think could make it worth it, though, is that MCW is in a suburb of Milwaukee, yet it gets all the pathology/trauma from the city and everywhere else in the area, since it's the biggest academic center/trauma center in the area.

Thanks for the advice! I'll be checking out the school next month.

Does this school offer student hosts? If not, does anyone have hotel recommendations?

lol you stayed there too? the bar gets a little rowdy, so I wouldn't suggest staying in there for too long. I ate dinner there and there were some interesting locals...haha

Hi all,

I have an interview here next week...Does anyone have tips on what to wear?? This is definitely the first time i've experienced temperatures this cold and I'm not really sure what to wear for the campus tour with all this snow? Any help would be appreciated!

The entire interview day is inside one building, so you don't have to worry about going in and out. You'll just need a coat and maybe an umbrella because I think there's rain in the forecast. It shouldn't be too unbearably cold next week!

Pre interview reject, completed on 9/25, OSS, it was a no chance school for me

Did anybody who's accepted *not* get the criminal background check email yet? I talked to someone who's accepted and they said they got it already. Just curious.

I got mine already also. I had two previous acceptances though and maybe that is why I got it already? I wouldn't look too much into it though
