2016-2017 Medical College of Wisconsin Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I felt like they were really trying to get to know me as a person. They basically asked me to summarize my life (I.e. Experiences) for the first question. They asked what I felt was current trends in medicine, to tell about a time when I felt I was a failure, who my support group was, what I would change about my personality if I could, where I pictured a future medical practice, etc.

They try to make you comfortable even though it is a panel interview (central Wisconsin campus). The rest of the day is either 1:1 or 1:2 sessions Such as learning about the school and community, meeting with the dean, learning style discussion, curriculum explanation, financial aid, etc.

Reading over all of this again before my interview tomorrow. Feeling fairly nervous (this is my first interview) but also like I've prepared as best as I can. Thanks for the help!

Good Luck Tomorrow!

Does anyone remember if there was a second look day for Central Wisconsin? I think I remember hearing something about that at the interview day but there wasn't anything mentioned in the acceptance packet. I want to get that date on my calendar and anything will be helpful in choosing between here and the 1-2 other schools that I have to pick from.

There is a second look day. I have it written in my notes from our interview day but the only information date-wise I have is that it is in March.

Did you guys get accepted with a packet in the mail or email? I've been waiting for an email but maybe that won't be the case? Thanks.

Got the acceptance via email one month after the interview. If they told you at the interview that you'll hear from us by January 28th for example, you won't hear back until that day. That's how it was for me at least. And the packet came a month after the email even though the email said it would only take two weeks. The admissions office just seems like they're kind of behind with some things.

I just got an email back saying that my criminal background check has been completed, and tells me if I want to review it, I have 10 days before it's sent to MCW. I don't have anything I'm worried about showing up on my report, but should I look it over before it goes in to make sure the info is accurate? Any problem with taking a look at it?

I would definitely look at it before sending it! the report is automatically sent after 10 days I believe...

For those who have been accepted, any idea when financial award decisions will be made?

Can any current students attest to the community here? With a larger class size I'm just curious how close knit the class is! (Milwaukee campus)

Not a current student but I know the community is well known as positive and supportive, and unusually friendly!

The above is definitely true. Even with the large class size, people are very close knit. People love to include as many others as possible for outings and events. Even during my interview day, I could tell that people at MCW were much friendlier than the other schools I visited. And that still holds true after being here for 6 months. Also, MCW is not competitive at all. Everybody helps each other and shares awesome resources. There are honestly too many resources most of the time. Which is a good thing! Everybody here is super supportive and it's awesome. Hope this helps!

Does anyone have an experience in dealing with this panel interview for the central Wisconsin campus? Is it just a traditional interview but with a panel?

I just got an email saying my interviewers were not able to review my file at the ADCOM meeting yesterday, so unfortunately I will have to hold out and wait a little longer. Good luck to everybody who receives a decision today!

That's a bummer! Best of luck 🙂

Congrats!!! When were you complete?
I want to say back in July or August! It has been awhile haha. Also, once you make the call to schedule your interview, can you cancel? I would love to attend, but I gotta watch flight costs..it would be hard to justify a $600 plane ticket especially since I'm holding an acceptance elsewhere. That being said I really want to attend the interview.

Has anyone who was complete from mid august or later heard back anything, rejections or II? I'm so anxious about this one. I want to come home to milwaukee so bad 🙁

September and nope!

Yep, it's pretty much question/answer the whole way. With 7 (or however many people) the questions come at you fast! Don't be afraid to pause and say "lemme think about that for a sec".

Thank you for the heads up. It might me being slightly older but I am completely alright with this 3 year curriculum. I'm not from Wisconsin or have no ties do you think I should prepare my whole OOS thing?

I GOT ACCEPTED!!!!...totally didn't think i had a shot at this school, this is FOR SURE where I am going to go. Also side note that first paragraph of the email tho...

I do have some questions about the living situation: where are some close by one bdrm apartments that are affordable (in the 700s)? I really don't want a roommate. Also is the total cost of attendance estimated at 65k per year for all four years or was that just for M1

If any current M1-4 can hit me up, please do I have loads of questions....

Definitely wouldn't be a bad idea.
