2016-2017 Oakland University (Beaumont) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For med students or those who already interviewed, how did you get from Detroit airport to the OUWB campus? I'm under 25 so I'm not sure if I can rent a car.

I'm planning to take an Uber/Lyft!

Guys, if you have not heard anything, you are absolutely 100% fine even if you had your application complete the first day. If the adcom was not interested, they would have rejected you by now, and at OUWB (and many other schools) your complete date is not a good indicator of when you can expect news. I cannot emphasize this enough: your apps are in, there are a hundred different factors affecting how and when your app gets reviewed besides your complete date, and you just have to wait your turn. I had my application in early and didn't interview until winter - I still got in. One of my friends had his apps in the first week it was open, interviewed in February, and got in.

Also, regarding people getting rejected with high stats - I want to emphasize again that OUWB's admissions process is really, honestly holistic and stats alone will not get you through the door. When people post on SDN that they were rejected, you're only seeing their stats and complete date which are a tiny piece of the application. You're not seeing that maybe they did too little community service, or had an IA, or demonstrated a lack of knowledge/commitment to the profession, or had a great application overall but had essays or letters that suggested they just weren't a good fit for our unique community. There's really no way you can get the complete picture from what people post on SDN, and seeing stats/complete date alone gives you very little insight into what the adcom thought of their application, especially at OUWB.

I know it sucks, but speculating will get you nowhere at this point. What will be will be! You just have to wait it out, unfortunately. In the meantime, go hang out with your friends or go outside or something!

Just rejected by e-mail. Quite disappointed as this was one of the private schools ranked highly on my list. Good luck to everyone else!

II by email and my secondary was complete early September (including a little snafu with one of my LOR). I am very excited for this school and I feel a strong fit with them:xf: The earliest interview date is Dec 2nd and the latest is Jan 13th.

Edit: OOS as well

I received a "supplemental confirmation." It pretty much said thank you for submitting the application and your file will be complete when LORs are received. It also said it may take several weeks to complete the review. It seems most (if not all) schools don't follow a linear order of review, so don't worry! My state school has been absolutely silent and I was complete a long while ago, but other reach schools have already gotten back to me super quick. This process is a mystery to us all...

Wondering if anyone here can comment on the safety of the Rochester Hills area? The fact that its close to detroit has me a little nervous. Thanks!
Little late, but rochester is a very nice, very affluent area. I actually heard the other day that is one of the safest cities in America. Very scenic too.
And dont believe everything you hear in the media. Outside of certain small areas, Detroit is not as terrible as most people think.

Lol I grew up in Detroit (yes in Detroit not a suburb), it's just like any other place -- has great things about it, but also has a few bad things. People just tend to focus on the bad unfortunately.

From the experiences in this thread it seems like Oakland is pretty swift with rejections when they have made their decision, so I definitely wouldn't fret not hearing anything! At worst it's only a sign they are doing additional review of your application.

So I finally got my LOR in, I'm doing a comittee letter from 3 professors and oaklands portal says it received it the 26th/27th but I don't have a green checkmark on the LOR. Should I contact them or wait another day?

I had an issue with my letter and didn't get completed until I called 2 weeks after submitting everything. Wait 3 business days and see if you get the green check mark. The lady on the phone explained that sometimes the portal system does not notify the office because it thinks you are still missing a letter. I had a committee letter (counts for 2/3 letters) and in the packet, all 6 of my letters. So she needed to manually check and complete my app. Hope this helps!

Thank you, the comittee letter is my only LOR, I just had all my profs do it for convenience so if it isn't approved I'm toast. This really helped, I will wait another day and see if they check mark it then call admissions.

II today!!!! So excited, I almost started crying from joy when I got the email. Good luck to everyone else, and keep your head up. I'm rooting for you!

CONGRATS! 😀 Complete date and stats? IS?
