2016-2017 Oakland University (Beaumont) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wow! That's exactly what I needed to hear lol. I can do it too! Just wouldn't want it to rain during my interview day. Water is not good for my shoes lol
Thanks for the pro-tip! Anything I can do to prepare for the interview?

Review your app and be prepare for standard interview questions. The variation between interviewers mean u can't prepare for anything more specific than that. just be enthusiastic and grateful and enjoy the process!

Hey guys.

Submitted secondary at the end of August (I know, late 🙁 Am also a Canadian).

LizzyM of 70 (3.5 GPA, 515 MCAT with 130 in CARS).

Am I boned?

You're not boned if you haven't been rejected. I submitted early July as a Canadian with LizzyM > 75 and I still have silence. If Oakland doesn't like your app, they won't hesitate to reject you.

How soon after sending secondaries did people get rejected? I've got nothing but silence from here.

It's random, if you took the time to read any of this forum you would see people are still waiting from July while some got rejected in a week. Silence is good here though.

For those of you from warmer climes, here are some photos of the fall colors on OU's campus.

In other news, the student affairs office has started offering some awesome new wellness activities specifically for med students this year. We now have various weekly fitness/wellness classes including tai chi, yoga, meditation, and dance (the dance ones are taught by students - anything from salsa to afro-fusion to hip hop). There are also monthly walking groups and meditation with a physician.

We also just had our "Make A Difference Day" where students volunteered at various health fairs, food banks, and other community organizations.

For those of you who have been accepted recently - welcome to the family! Don't hesitate to reach out to me or any students you met on interview day if you have questions. Otherwise, I hope everybody has a great weekend!
Just want to say, I love your updates @mrslandingham! OU seems like a great environment to be in and I hope to have the opportunity to visit one day!

Rejected last night, complete the first week of July. Best of luck to everyone else!

What is the style of the interview? Does it change from year to year? Can someone who has already attended interviews comment on the schedule for the day of the interview please? Thanks so much! 🙂

The interview is fairly traditional. But I will say that it depends on who you get. One of my interviewers asked me a lot of ethical questions while the other interview was extremely traditional. So it really depends on the person. That being said, it is laid back. As the person above commented, the schedule is available online. There is an optional tour at the end of the day.

P.S. I interviewed earlier this cycle.

Great, thanks! Is it one-on-one?

By ethical scenarios do you mean something like MMI?

Hi friends! Just received my first II on October 25th, CA resident, 505 MCAT, 3.82 sGPA and 3.84 cGPA, Psychology Major with minor in chemistry, interview scheduled for Dec 15, pm me if you wanna share some fares? 😵

Let me know if anyone with an invite would like to practice with me! 🙂

All these decisions for July people. Hopefully I hear some good news soon too. Complete 7/26, OOS
No news since early August either. This entire application process has been quite taxing. At least for Oakland, no news is definitely good news!

Complete early/mid August. II a week ago! Keep your hopes up - they are probably still going through a lot of applications 🙂
same for me! are you interviewing in Dec or Jan?

Rejected just now, complete early July. Good luck to everyone!

I was going to choose December, but it conflicted with my exams, so I chose January! We should practice for the interview together! Let me know if you're up for that 🙂

I'd be down, but maybe we'll wait til it gets a lil closer to our dates haha

Interviewed here on 10/14...anyone else here interviewed that day?! I wonder if they will make us offers tomorrow or if we will have to wait for another two weeks 😳

If anyone is flying into DTW (Detroit airport) on 11/15 for the 11/16 interview, message me if you are Ubering/Lyfting! Trying to cut down on costs and would be nice to share a ride with someone/group of people. Thanks!

I also interviewed on 10/14, and I'm really hoping to hear something today but I'm not sure if we will. How many dates are between us and the 9/16?

How did you find it? Did you arrive a full day before? What were your overall impressions of the school and program (for anyone who has interviewed already)?

I interviewed on 10/14 and didn't hear back at all yesterday. Just wanted to make sure that I understand how OUWB reviews applicants. Doesn't this mean that either they reviewed my application and put me on silence or that they still haven't gotten to my application yet(because on twitter it said they reviewed most applications from 10/14, not all). thanks!

It means that your application is still in the mix. I interviewed 9/30 and still haven't heard. They sound out rejection emails and third-tier waitlist emails so not hearing isn't a bad thing it just means you weren't selected for an acceptance this meeting and they're going to re-review your app in 2 weeks.

I got secondary back in July and did not see it till this week... Is there a point in still apply ??
I have meh stats..

I think you may have just answered your own question... But if you don't mind spending money for even a slight chance and having to complete the secondary, I say go for it.

Rejected pre-II 3pm. Complete mid-August. OOS. Non-trad.
