2016-2017 Ohio State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
for those who have an interview scheduled, what does your pocket photo look like? this may be a stupid question but i dont want to bring something that is either too formal or too casual

Does anyone know if Uber is available in the area? Or the name of a reliable taxi service?

I went here for UG but am now OOS. Was heavily involved during UG, tour guide for the school, my major, 3.8 GPA, 31 mcat...no love

Come on osu

Interviews were relatively stress free here. You will have 1 faculty interviewer for 45min and one student interviewer for 30min. They asked pretty typical interview questions. No ethics questions or "stress" interview style. The interviewers are also blinded to your GPA and MCAT, so they relly focus on learning more about you and your interests.

The interview day was amazing! Dr. Capers and the rest of the admissions team are so welcoming. All of the students and faculty seem genuinely happy to be at OSU. One of the best parts of the day was having lunch with the medical students. There was at least one medical student to every interviewee, so there was plenty of time to ask questions.

Does OSU do silent rejections or have they not gotten to my app yet? haha I am going to continue the "no news, good news" thought process here

This is one of only 2 schools that I have fallen in love with post-interview... Praying for an acceptance! To those who have yet to interview, they really mean it when they say interviewers are just trying to get to know you as a person. Everyone was so friendly, welcoming and the strength of school pride was second to none (both students and faculty alike are over the moon about the school and very vocal about the strength of the program).

So the rumor among students that work with the admissions office is that Dr. Capers will call all accepted students beginning midnight this Sunday night, 10/16. No guarantees, but that is the word. In any event, all those who have interviewed so far should learn their status on Monday morning, 10/17. Good luck everyone! OSU is an awesome place to be!

Deferred/Waitlisted... Definitely not the news I was hoping for this morning, but at least it is not a notification of rejection.

Deferred. All of my hopes and dreams are crashing down. 🙁

I only have one more interview scheduled so far.

Deferred as well 🙁. Would be really appreciated if a current medical student at OSU could offer some insight into how aggressively OSU picks from its deferred students. As well as a general timeline for when we will hear our ultimate decision. Totally understand if this info is not available or just too random to offer an answer.

Hang in there. Look at last year's thread. Rainbow Zebra and others were deferred and offered acceptance not too long after. From what I read (not an expert) all deferred candidates are re-reviewed each committee meeting for potential acceptance. Tons of people on last years thread are students there now after first being deferred.

All deferred applicants are re-reviewed every two weeks when the Admissions Committee meets to vote on the new interviewees. So we could find out great news anywhere from two weeks from today, or all the way through April 30th. At least we are both on the first batch of deferred applicants, so there will be many chances of gaining that final push to acceptance. Still in limbo for the time being, but much better than being rejected outright.

I was offered an acceptance about 1 week or so after being deferred last year. They seem to put all the applicants in a ranked pile, and pull the top 25 or so each ADcom meeting. Just depends on where you are in the pile. I didn't make the first cut, but did on the second cut!

I ultimately choose U of M in March over OSU, but I am IS at Michigan. I loved OSU and Columbus, but could not choose OSU when my whole family are Wolverines. Go Buckeyes, but always, GO BLUE!! Good luck to all.

Thanks for the advice, info, and kind words everyone. I will stay positive and wait! Good luck to everyone else in this application cycle 🙂

My interview day there were both instate and out of state applicants.

ok thanks all. maybe i will send a letter of interest

Hi all,

Does this school offer housing for its students? Thanks!

Hi guys, I don't know if this helps anything, but they mentioned at the admissions office that OSU got a thousand more apps this year than last year. This could def help to slow things down

I interviewed with a LizzyM 66-68. I am non-URM but a non-traditional with a lot of research experience which may set me apart a bit. I got the II very unexpectedly as OSU is my dream school. So don't count yourself out! It's still very early, I believe they're scheduling for late Nov/early Dec and they told us they interview until the last week of March.

That's great to hear! I'm glad you received an interview!

Are you IS or OOS? That may make a difference since OSU is a public school unless it's like any of the CA schools. Regardless, congrats on the invite! Hope I will hear from OSU soon!
