2016-2017 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
But if you look through previous years threads, they were told that the committee hasn't reached the app...however, that is the past and your interpretation of the email seems to be accurate...just confirms my belief that this hold isn't a good sign...

If this is the case why keep applicants hanging. Clearly they don't have a shortage of applicants and they have 24 ppl per half day interview. This is where DO admissions rule. Seriously...started app in june and then travelled abt only to wait 2-6 months post interview. If you review someone's app, there is just no sense in waitlisting them and giving pretense of a hold. If they haven't reviewed the file, I don't believe that because read the first pars of that email. It specifically says the adcom have collectively agreed to put your app on hold after review. I'm peacing cause I know all too well what will come after this :whoa:

I'm not in any sort of disagreement with either of you, I think we're on the same page haha

Do they do pre-II rejections here? Ive been complete since early August and haven't heard anything

Lol no man you're good, I'm just rhetorically confused and tired of this process. it's like pulling teeth. I see why it is so horrible to be a reapplicant.

I'm a reapp and was waitlisted at three schools last year. So every waitlist I get this cycle hits me hard.

My application is so much better, and I interview well (interviewed for several jobs, DO schools- all acceptances)...just MD schools keep rejecting me

I don't get it

Word of advice to everyone: KEEP WORKING AS IF THOUGH YOU HAVE TO REAPPLY BECAUSE THESE SCHOOLS ARE HEARTLESS

I had his impending feeling yesterday that cms was going to tell me good news today. I opened my almost battery drained phone to read the snippet about 'hold'. Ugh, I knew I should have appropriated funds for an mmi training session.

I though I killed my MMIs and was waitlisted...they might just be accepting superstars now and leaving the rest of us "normal" people for May

What's your LizzyM?

I thought the same. I know the first one was a fluke but the rest of them went by well. I even had some time to talk abt myself. Hits me hard after a grueling workday ...

To those that are accepted and paid the $100, have you heard back from school admin?

Ugh, the wait list pain - I cringe when thinking about joining another wait list support group. Don't worry Champagne papi, this will be our year. :angelic:

70ish

An applicant with 70+ LizzyM has the potential to be interviewed and accepted at almost any school. I suspect the problem is with your interviewing skills and not with your stats. Have you tried doing mock interviews and seeking help from your premed advisor?

I have been accepted to several DO schools and have been to several job interviews and have gotten the jobs. I don't think it is my interviewing skills. MD schools might just not like my face. Lol

Biggest tip of advice from those who have already interviewed here? Also, anyone interviewing on November 18th (afternoon)? I'm OOS and hoping to be in good company

are they receptive to in the area emails?

I havent heard back from them in 3 months since completion email

I received a courtesy email over a month after my "application complete" email stating that my preliminary screening is complete and under consideration of the Admissions Committee. I then received an II 1.5 months after the courtesy email. This is how the process as gone for me, but of course is subject to change applicant to applicant.

IMO, getting into DO schools is much easier than into MD schools. Idk what jobs that you applied for, but I am sure they are not comparable to med school. Employees come dime a dozen. You can fire someone and then hire someone else. However, med school seats are irreplaceable as new students are not accepted into the class and school transfers are almost nonexistent.

What else can I do other than be polite, friendly, eye contact, and answer their questions? I am not socially awkward and I can spark up a conversation with anyone without alcohol.

I don't understand what they want me to do? Perform magic tricks?

I am prepared for the interviews but not too prepared that I sound robotic.

Please advise.

This is just a suggestion, but maybe try a little alcohol next time. Ask your interviewer if they'd like a shot from your flask you keep inside your jacket. It could get the blood pumping a bit more.

Honestly, don't listen to that person. Sounds like a huge jerk. If you do your best and aren't a sociopath, and the interviewers still don't like you, then maybe it just wasn't meant to be. You seem to have been prepared and (while this is the internet) I don't get the crazy vibes from you. Don't get down on yourself my friend. There are enough issues pulling us all down.

is there an explanation to the fact that some people get a "courtesy" email that they are still under consideration after a few weeks, yet others like myself, have heard nothing since a complete email 3 months ago?

Since theres no portal and they tell us not to contact them, I find RFU's approach irritating

I don't think it's your interviewing skills that are causing you to be waitlisted. Unless one comes across as arrogant, awkward or totally lacking personality it's uncommon to bomb every interview. The fact that you have had success with DO interviews is a good sign .
And the fact that you are getting IIs is also a good sign it just might be that you were not their strongest candidate for now or someone who fits their mission and so you were waitlisted. But looks like people come off waitlists all the time, so don't be discouraged and don't think last year's cycle is repeating especially if you have improved your application this time. It may just be a coincidence, but you have a lot of time to get off waitlists now. Make sure you send those updates and letters of intent wherever possible. Good Luck !

I will PM you with more tips.

I think this would be better via PM than posting it here, but I want others to comment. Also I am not an advisor, so take this with a grain of salt.
Everything about Rosalind exudes that it's more mission based and wants future physicians that will serve the immediate underserved population. This is evidenced by the fact that people with LizzyM 0f 66 or lower were directly accepted. You were waitlisted and not rejected, but for some reason (maybe you don't align with their mission) the committee did not advocate for your acceptance.

An interview invite is an indication that you have all the right things on paper. No school will waste their limited resources on interviewing someone that they have no interest in, unless it's an applicant who has powerful connections, then it becomes a courtesy interview. You had several invites in both cycles; therefore, if I had to narrow it down, I would say the problem is somewhere in the interview.

I cannot comment on what you need to improve as I don't know you or what you are like IRL. Utilize your premed office as they are the best resource to improve your skills.

@Aubrey Graham got an early interview (second interview of the season), so Rosalind took a lot of interest in him. Weak candidates are either rejected or invited for interviews at the end of the cycle. Relying on waitlist is not a great strategy and he should be focusing on getting direct acceptances. Very few schools care for LOI or updates. Some go as far as saying that they require for you to send an LOI in order for you to remain on the waitlist, but again its a marginal practice. Goro and GynGyn have mentioned that LOI/update have little weight in the admissions process. Getting several II and no acceptances is actually a great evaluation tool of your interview performance.

I think it is hard to say without seeing you in interviews. You seem really normal and likable here, and your stats are good enough. Maybe a practice interview with your premed office or a would reveal something small (posture, tone?) that distracts from your answers. Or maybe it's just a mission fit issue. Or maybe it's that you didn't do magic tricks (really, not even a card trick? 😛)

It looks like there was a lot of movement on the waitlist here last year, so there is definitely hope!

I am not saying to rely on waitlists but to keep hope. As far as interviewing, it's very hard to say that that's the problem without actually seeing. OP seems to know the general interview etiquette. And I did PM him with some more pointers.
Also getting waitlisted in the initial round of interviews does not necessarily mean that you lack interviewing skills. It may be that the candidate is not the best fit yet. It is very common for people to get accepted off of waitlists in med school admissions. At this point he needs to prep more for interviews but also stay positive and hopeful.

Meeee!!!! Heyyy lol

edit: Ahh, damn. Jk. I just read the whole thing. I have the morning interview. 😳

Just got my "complete and under review email". Submitted 8/4

Hey! Is anyone interviewing on Dec 9? It'd be nice to know a person or two when I'm there.

I'm curious how many ppl get off hold status. They must have ranking system I suppose to choose the best performers.

Most still get waitlisted from this status according to last year's thread.

Sorry as I'm sure this has been answered previously in this lengthy thread... Are pre-II rejections silent?

Last correspondence was in August saying I'm in primary review, nothing since then.

anyone know when the next decisions will go out? If I have an interview 12/2, will I wait a specific amount of time or hear back whenever the next decisions go out? Thank you!

It's been taking 5-6 weeks to hear back after your interview. If you interview on 12/2, you will hear back in mid- January.

@pandasaregreat

This isn't entirely accurate! I interviewed on 10/14 and heard back on 11/4. Exactly three weeks.

What we also learned from this recent round of acceptances is that everyone who interviewed between 10/7 - 10/21 heard back on the 4th. So seems RFU has one GIANT meeting and decides ~150 applicants fates then....

Some pre-II rejections do go out earlier in waves. They reject along the cycle when they know they're not offering you an II.

i still have yet to receive the "complete" email from them....

No, you are not given an itinerary of the interview day or any information about the MMI until you are physically present at RFU.

They tell you the number of MMI stations when you pick your interview date.
