It took for me to receive a secondary post-mission statement and then I received an II two weeks after submitting my Secondary
 
So I'm flying out of SeaTac today for an OOS interview... am I going to die?
 
This may be a dumb question, but if we are OOR, do we have to fill out the very in-depth residency info on the secondary portal? Just received my secondary post mission request a couple of days ago. Definitely my dream school! Thanks in advance. 🙂
 
Anyone else get a interview schedule confirmation? For Spokane, I can see the interview day begins as early as 8 AM, but they have not sent me anything about what time I will be interviewing.

Not yet 🙂 I assume they are just working on finalizing interviewers' schedules for those days

I got my confirmation 2 weeks before my interview.

The accreditation meeting is supposed to be this month. I'm checking medicine.wsu.edu every day for an update, but nothing yet. I'm a WSU alum and the pre-med advisor said it's happening this year.

I'm checking their website daily as well. That's good to know though thanks for the info.
 
@BABSstudent I have a burning question. Is it true that UW have higher acceptance rate post-interview for those who interview early? or UW maintains the same acceptance rate that they reported on the website (~50% for IR and ~33 for OOR applicants) throughout the interview season ?

Honestly it is probably equal throughout the cycle.

They sent you an II already? Is you interview in Boise, because I thought they didn't send those out till about 4 weeks before those interview dates? Congrats!

Thanks! The portion of the email about regional scheduling (and then Idaho dates) states:

You can expect a future email about scheduling your interview and additional information about the day's agenda. We will follow up with you via email as soon as we have more information.

The WWAMI Program of decentralized medical education at the UWSOM has particular weeks during which each state's applicants are interviewed. Please see the dates below to determine when and where your interview will take place. Because most of these interviews occur later in the season, many of our applicants will not hear about a specific interview date until December or January. We always try to give applicants 3-4 weeks' notice to prepare for the interview.

IDAHO**: January 23 - January 26, 2017 and February 27, 2017 - March 2, 2017 (in Boise)

For those who were asking about WSU...
I talked to the admissions office today and they should they should be accredited within the next two weeks. They're going to send out a huge accouncement on how to apply and the first class will be fall of 2017 🙂

This is really great news. Do you think the announcement will be made on the blog? Or should I check other places? So exciting!

That's awesome! Have they stated if they will be open to OOS? Perhaps neighboring states or regional like UW?

With only 60-some-odd seats for the first class I have no idea why they would.

EDIT: I mostly meant that I doubt they would prefer applicants from neighboring states to the same degree that they prefer IS applicants.. I'm sure that some OOS applicants would be accepted..

Eh, you never know. Some of the recently-opened publics have taken a portion of their class from OOS pretty early on. I'm not going to hold my breath, but neither will I dismiss it out of hand without a statement from the school.
 
If you get a secondary as an OOR applicant, what's your chance at an interview? Didn't know if anyone knew a stat of the top of their head 🙂

From the UWSOM Interview FAQ page:


Within the WWAMI region, we generally interview about 600 applicants from an applicant pool of approximately 1100 per year= 55%. From an out of region pool of approximately 3500 applicants, we generally interview around 65=~2%.
Of the total 660-670 applicants interviewed, offers of admission are made to 216 applicants plus typically about 35 alternates to fill the class of 216 (216/665=32%).
A general way to remember this is that half of all applicants from the WWAMI region will be interviewed and a third of those interviewed will be accepted. We don't set these percentages in advance, but they have remained relatively consistent over the last few years.

Thanks! I wish they gave the number of OOR secondaries they give out, because that's the first screening process. Definitely have a slim chance, but I'm hopeful 🙂

Accreditation passed preliminaries!
The next step is approval through AAMC. The blog says to check back for application information the beginning of November.

Sounds like preference for WA residents? I wonder if they will implicate something similar to WWAMI eventually.

"The dean noted that the medical school will recruit talented students from rural and medically underserved communities, first-generation professional students, and those with a passion to serve and lead in medical care. These students will have the opportunity to train in varying clinical settings in communities across the state, increasing the likelihood that they will remain there to practice medicine."
 
I could definitely see them doing something similar to WWAMI, especially with preference for Idaho as well since it's so close. Idaho is also being given some preference at the new UNLV medical school - for a state who has no medical school they still get taken pretty good care of by their neighboring states (also have seats at UUtah and maybe another?). Still not as many spots as having their own medical school though, I realize this!

Does anyone know if UW offers specific classes like pharmacology, history of medicine, and stuff like this? Or is this stuff just scattered throughout the different modules?
 
Would it be too early to send a letter of interest/intent?

Being a third time reapplicant, really want to express how UW is my top choice. But also don't want ti come off as too desperate before even the first meeting... lol

You will get pharm scattered through the first 18 months. There isn't an official "history of medicine" course, but relevant historical context is often discussed. UW has it's share of Nobel laureates that get mentioned in regard to various topics of reaseach. Additionally, you can take electives any quarter that you wish to, in various topics, and at no additional tuition cost.
