Is anyone else planning on paying for everything with loans? (No family contribution, no financial aid, no merit scholarship, no savings to rely on). I’m in this situation and it’s freaking me out because it feels like I’m on the extreme end of the spectrum and most people at Case aren’t actually facing $340K+ in loans. The average indebtness after 4 years is supposedly around $190k so it would seem that a ton of people get aid or family help. Anyone else relying completely on loans? How are you dealing with this emotionally?

Honestly, I don't know how this figure is calculated, because personally I can't believe it is true. I wouldn't be surprised if this is including the college kids, or some other mathemagic.

Regardless: you won't be the only one. I have support and am still going to be very close to that.

Can any current students comment on the curriculum? I have the impression it is largely self-directed. Do you feel students are given enough guidance?

Not really sure how to answer this, tbh. I'm a rising M3 (our M2 year ends early). It's perhaps self-directed in that you don't get "booklets" of info to study or something along those lines, but we still have lectures that cover nearly everything we need to know for exams, the rest is handled via IQ case research (for which there are resources listed, but you aren't spoonfed the info). So... I guess more self-directed than other schools, but I don't think people at other schools DONT use the same resources we do to try and learn.. so in the end, not sure it's all that different.

If you have some specific Qs, feel free to ask here or in PM.

Anyone on the waitlist heard anything yet?

Last year a couple people heard on the 2nd.... it's ONE DAY AFTER THAT AND NO NEWS

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
edit: ^ not sarcasm, I don't know if it's all that milk I drank or the waiting game but I don't feel great tbh

Seriously though, this is the only waitlist I haven't withdrawn from and I'd like some time to find housing and stuff if I do get in............

I actually talked to someone from the Admissions Office and they said that the class is currently full - but they're not sure whether or not there will be any waitlist movement over the next few weeks. so it looks like it'll be a FUN waiting game for all of us here

Looks like I can cross this off of my list of schools I've been waitlisted at and would like to attend.

Damn, this sucks 🙁. I remember someone saying that the dean said they expected a lot of waitlist movement this year.

okay cool so I guess we gotta decide the level of scrambling around that is acceptable in order to go here.

yay us.

I'm leaving for a job thing soon that runs up almost til the case start date so I was hoping the waitlist would move soon so I'd have at least one weekend to look for housing or something. Idk how much longer I can make myself hang on to this wait list.

If I have already submitted a letter of interest on their portal, should I send it again to their admissions email?

I was planning on sending a brief email reiterating that I would attend if accepted, since it is my top choice. I mentioned that I had recently sent a letter of intent, but did not re-send it.

Is anyone replying to the email to state their interest but not saying it’s their top choice? It’s definitely my #2 and I would be super super happy to go there, but I already sent a letter of intent to my #1. Do you think it would be okay to reiterate my interest or should I just not answer the email?

Honestly i like case as much as my other WL’d school but the other one is cheaper :/

I dunno.... it sounds like they're fishing for a letter of intent.

Yikes, ill feel bad if i withdrew a letter of intent

If Case is your #2 and you're waitlisted at both Case and #1, you can still reply to the email.

Maybe "I would be thrilled to be offered a spot at Case Western for this year's incoming class. I would be happy to give up my current acceptance in order to attend."

That's all true, right?

If they play a game you've gotta play it back.

Hmm that might work, but I dont have acceptances atm :'(

Oh dang...!

But it sounds like you've gotta say something. If you don't reply, they'll think you're not interested, right?

Maybe just the first sentence of what I wrote, and then focus on thanking them for the update? Lol I dunno.

You right, i have nothing to lose anyways!

Has anyone received a merit scholarship when accepted through the waitlist in previous years? I already have an acceptance to a top 20 school with a LizzyM of 77. Would I come across as entitled by responding I will consider Case if they give me a merit scholarship. Thanks.

I was told they only can give recycled merit scholarships to other people who were invited to apply for merit scholarships but didn’t get one.

I don't think that would necessarily sound entitled. If it's true, and you really want to go to Case, I would go for it, and just be concious of your wording. Good luck!

You can always ask, just keep in mind also that they may have already allocated funds.

For what it’s worth: as the start date is getting closer and closer, they want to be sure people actually want to go there. Nobody wants to have someone drop out last minute and then they have to scramble, and someone else has to scramble to make arrangements to move across the country, to get there. It’s not a game, just logistics.

It says to email them if theyre your top choice!

Really? That's super direct! Hahah

If they literally said it just like that, then sure.

As I explained above. This isn’t so much about being direct as it is about logistics. We start early and it’s very soon, which would make it difficult for both the school and a prospective student on the wait list should someone get a spot now but decide to drop out in June.

Rising M3. For those who are coming to Case: I can try to answer any questions you have (here or DM). Congrats on everyone’s acceptances wherever you go, and for those who may not get in this year: remember the goal in mind, improve your app, and try again! Many people, incl. myself, applied more than once.

Now that the cycle is mostly over, do you know whether Case is looking at only needing to fill a couple spots or whether they have a lot more open seats?
Thanks for all your help on this thread!

This “late” in the game, I’m pretty sure they are full and the only movement happening is if people change their minds or get in elsewhere. I don’t know this for a fact, but I do know that schools are very careful to make sure they don’t end up with an empty spot.

I would also love to know if there has been a lot movement, and if anyone knows if they are planning on having more. I am about to spend thousands of dollars on a consultant to reapply, so if there is a possibility I could get in I hope it is before I spend the money

I reached out to Case Admissions by e-mail last Friday and received the following response this morning: "Thanks again for reaching out. It's tough for us to predict waitlist movement since it is different every year. We will keep you on the list!" So it does sound like there is at least some hope. Still not very encouraging. Luckily, I have accepted another school (although really want Case), but it is hard to arrange for housing and sign a lease when waiting for Case. Good luck to everyone.

Can any current Case students give their opinion on how necessary it is to have a car first year? I'll be living ~15 min walking distance from campus and wondering how bad it would be to get by with just a bike at least for the first year.

Does anyone have any experience renting from Zipkin? Are they good?
