Limit: 500 words per question.

Will your education be continuous between college and medical school matriculation? If YES, please tell us about your proudest accomplishment to date. If NO, please explain what you have done or plan to do during the gap period and why.

DESCRIBE AN OBSTACLE YOU'VE OVERCOME AND HOW IT HAS DEFINED YOU.

Good luck to everyone applying!

Hey guys, so I was thinking for the obstacle question of using an example of where I tried to join Army ROTC my jr. year. I committed to the task of commissioning with them and spent an entire year training and working hard with the guys including taking all of the courses and attending every event. Unfortunately, because I joined late I had to make the decision to either change my major from biochem to (something requiring a lot less units) or drop ROTC, I chose to drop the program. It was a really tough decision especially considering all of the time I put into the program. The next year I struggled a bit in my course work partially because I had given up a huge group of my friends and I was feeling pretty down. I refocused my energy though and graduated a little bit late with a good GPA, studied hard for the MCAT and got a good score.

Do you think this is a good enough example?

When describing our gap year plans how much "Why?" do we need? I'm just working at the same jobs I held while in school. Isn't that kind of self explanatory? Should I explain why I began working there to begin with?

I think it sounds good!

I'm applying MSTP and they only have an additional question for MSTP applicants. The question basically asks what research you want to do and how it relates to your future clinical interests. However, there seems to be no indication of a character/word limit. Do you guys know what the length which I should shoot for in answering this question is? I can write a lot since the question is pretty open ended 😀

I had the same issue, but did research. I wasn't sure if I should go into reasons for why I needed to take time off and why I decided to do research, or why I did what I did in my work (i.e. why my hypothesis is important). I ended up briefly touching on the former, because it was kind of explained in my personal statement. I would say that they want to know why you took time off and why you decided to do what you did versus something else (i.e. volunteer abroad, backpack through europe, work a company job, be a lab tech, etc etc).

thanks, yea I basically ended up saying I needed to finish current projects. I also feel that the why of my research etc. is touched on in other parts of my application.

Anyone still waiting to be marked complete?

I was verified July 6 and still no secondary. Do they send them out in batches? From what I read, they don't screen.

Bumping this thread for the first time in what seems like forever but my status for this school changed to under review

I found my Thomas Jefferson secondary in the spam folder this morning. It was sent on 7/19.
So, check your spam folder.

Does anyone still have an incomplete application? Mine has said I'm missing my Health Committee Letter for ~2 weeks but it was uploaded to AMCAS on 7/20 and my secondary was submitted on 7/6. Should I call admissions?

I have a similar situation but with a yet-to-be-received individual letter. I emailed the office after I sent it through AMCAS but did not receive a response back

+1 fam.

It tells me I'm still missing 3 letters, even though everyone else got at least one of those letters almost a month ago.

I gave it about 2 weeks after submitting the missing letter and called the office - the women who answered was very friendly and confirmed they received my letter and that my status would be updated the following Tuesday, which was yesterday.

I waited until Monday of this week and emailed the office. Didn't get a response, but got a complete email within the same day so I'll take it.

is it worth it for me to apply here with a 3.3 (huge upward trend) and 515, with 3500hrs research, 1 first author pub etc. but a CT resident? I am a current lab manager full time at a top 5 hospital for past year, normal volunteering ECs etc. I finished all my other secondaries and was considering adding a few more although maybe a little late.

I feel like my GPA is too low since its not that good but I have a lot of research and saw on MSAR 94% matriculants had it

Those of you with IIs. What day(s) of the week are interviews held? Thanks

If you still have letters listed as not received, you NEED to email them. They had a letter that was sent out over a month ago listed as "not received", and when I emailed them I got a complete email in half an hour. Should have done it sooner.

Okayyy Stony Brook Adcoms, I just paid for and submitted the $100 secondary just for you! Now please show this CA premed some love 🙂

Probably about to withdraw application here due to financial strain. II two weeks ago.

Edit: just withdrew.

I don't think you can. I got a complete email today which is almost after a month since I submitted.
