Is it worth interviewing here? I got an interview invite this morning and I really doubt I'd get one at an MD program. I got accepted into a DO program I loved and just wanted advice:

Stats: MCAT: 502 (127/120/128/127) Yes, that's a 120, it is not a typo LOL. GPA: 3.8

I live in Albany. I shadowed a bunch of doctors in Albany and the hospitals around here. I also had a MD letter of recommendation from an Electrophysiology Cardiologist that works at Albany Medical Center.

What do u guys think I should do?

i have the same question. i already interviewed here and i feel like the reason i got UC was cause of my MCAT score. i also have similar GPA stats and rec letters/ECs and i thought my interviews went well but i felt like my mcat score held me back. idk if i'm getting it, just wanted to know other peoples' opinions also.

100% ii. You literally live in Albany and its no stress off your back. Best case scenario you get into a better program worst case you dont

Exactly what I am thinking! Don't get me wrong, I'd love an acceptance.. But also feels like a leap of faith, rollercoaster emotions, and a long time of waiting anxiously. HAHA. But the emotions/stress would be worth it for this school though, right?

right, i feel you. i went bc it was my first interview ever, MD or DO. but i feel like if they invite you for an interview, they should judge based on the interviews only. because it's like why invite me if you already are gonna deny me for my mcat score. you feel me? but these are all assumptions that i'm making lol ..

Valid assumptions. I felt the same way. Not like this is a secondary app and they can take money from us by inviting. I think..

Process it more like: imma go there do my best and whatever happens happens because im all set for med school anyways. It really is no stress for ya since you were even considering not attending the interview! Goodluck and dont forget they gave u an ii because they liked your app, mcat score included

thanks for this hope. i did really like albany and still have my fingers crossed since i didn't get an R.

Give ADCOMS the opportunity to tell you yes.

AMC invites like 700/ 11000 people to interview. So they brought you in for a reason. There are folks w/ low stats that have been accepted, so having a low MCAT score isn’t a reason why you’d get rejected post II.

Best of luck!! Go show em why you would be an asset.
 
This may be a silly question, but is it possible to ask the admissions to resend you a copy of your secondary responses? I saved mine on my computer, but I won't have access to it in a long time.

I'm OOS ORM non-traditional applicant. I had a 3.9 postbacc, 509 mcat and 4.0 for my fall term master's program. Poor non-science undergrad GPA(originally studied business). I have >1000 scribing hours and lots of volunteer hours in underserved communities. I'm having a rough go this cycle and curious if anyone has a similar story?

Did u apply to DO programs or only MD? How poor was ur science GPA? It seems like u have good EC's/mcat/master program GPA. I have a rough application cycle due to my low MCAT, and the 120 cars. I also did not apply to many schools, only 5 DO programs and like 2 MD programs. I got an interview at Morehouse, I rejected. I got an interview for TOUROCOM, I was waitlisted. I got an acceptance to LECOM. And today I got an interview for AMC.

Congrats! I only applied to MD. Just curious, why did you reject morehouse? I actually considered applying even though I'm a white guy, but was not sure how that would be received. My science GPA was strong via my postbacc, but it's actually my overall GPA that is brought down significantly from my business undergraduate GPA. I did not take science courses during my initial undergrad. I am not sure how they weight that, but I imagine they don't like my overall GPA

I rejected it cause I wanted to be near my family, and Morehouse was just too far, that's it! Nothing bad in terms of the school 🙂. And I see. Hm, maybe ask if they can give u feedback if u are really curious.

They use a really convoluted version of a HP/P/LP/F. Except it’s like, E/H/G/F or something similar. All the students I’ve talked to (and I’ve talked to a lot because I work here) say that residency programs don’t have any idea what it all means and don’t care to find out, so it generally doesn’t matter.

I would caution this anecdotal advice. I am sure schools send a thorough explanation of what it means with the transcripts... saying "the residency programs dont have any idea and dont care to find out" is QUITE the general statement. I am not saying anything bad, but I would hesitate to paint all residencies with the same brush accross all locations and specialties.

It’s been awhile since my interview, but I thought one of the admissions people said that they’re switching to P/F starting next year? Could be mixing up schools, though.

You’re gonna have to tell that to all of the students that do the panels at interview day, along with all of the M4s I work with. Because I’ve heard the same reassurance over and over and over again.

I’m not telling you you’re wrong, I’m just cautioning at such broad statements. Residency directors are all very different!
