Complete 7/31, first R of the cycle.

Kind of figured it would occur- my MCAT was a little low for them.

Interviewing here tomorrow. Wondering if anyone who has interviewed already could answer a question for me. On their "typical interview day" they mention from 9-11 its either your interview or open discussion with a faculty member. Can anyone tell me what that open discussion looked like? Is there any preparation necessary for that or is it just sort of an informal group conversation?

Informal group conversation. Half the group will talk to an interviewer and the other half will talk with a faculty member/dean, then switch. Just bring a lot of questions! They are really looking to make sure you know BU is a good fit for you. (Tbh, too much focus on asking questions on this interview day, but that’s better than a bunch of dry lectures).

They are very up front about their identity as a social justice school focusing on physicians understanding the daily social context of their patients. I was pleasantly surprised that there was so much focus on clinical and primary care instead of research here during the interview day.

Interviewing here soon and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for things to do in Boston (flying in two days prior) as I’ve never been there. Also, how did your interview experience compare to other schools you have visited? Is it more conversational or formal? Any advice/tips would be awesome, super excited about this one!!

I didn't get to spend much time in Boston so no advice there, but I can speak to the interview day! The interview itself was pretty conversational, but I think that can vary pretty widely based on your interviewer. It seems like the try to pair you with an interviewer who has similar interests and experiences which is awesome! All of the students and faculty that we interacted with were extremely friendly and open to answering questions honestly. I had a great time at my interview day and I think you will too 🙂

Got an R this morning, secondary completed 7/25. Feels bad man.

I got a rejection without an interview at BU as well. This was my 2nd time applying to BU. I am a non-traditional applicant with an undergraduate degree from outside of the U.S., but I completed a pre-med program here. I also have extensive research experience both in public health and neuroscience research, as well as lots of volunteering experience. I have 6 publications, 5 of which are first author. I feel like BU really does care about GPA (3.68) and MCAT scores (517), but I guess mine were not good enough...

wow surprised to see this as BU emphasizes public/global health and you seem to have a great story. I do not agree with the GPA and MCAT part however. I've seen applicants on this thread with lower mcats than you receiving interviews, and BU's median mcat is around your mcat score of 517.

I’m flying to NY from California, is it a good idea to send an ITA to BUSM? Transcontinental flights are so much more expensive than a bus so I figured it might be worth a shot...

You can say that you will be in the North East during that time period.

Pretty similar here. State college 3.61, surprising 525 MCAT, 3k clinical hours, but only minimal research. I took 2 years off, so I guess I'm a little non-trad too. I don't know whether to feel better or worse after seeing your impressive resume, and I'm surprised they didn't interview you. You have pretty amazing stats with your only flaw in GPA. Clearly, any school would be lucky to have you. Keep your head up! It's easy to feel discouraged around here.

No big deal but HOW were you lovely people rejected ... seriously

yeah ok i thought this. Hear a lil rumor that it was but i was pretty shocked since that wasnt said at all lol

That's what I thought given that we only had one interview.

Though I am unsure how the faculty member would be able to pick out our names. If anything, though unlikely, it may be used to grade "enthusiasm" for the school lol

I'd do it. They were receptive to me and scheduled me the same week I was in Boston for another interview.
