Accepted off the waitlist the other day but will be turning it down. Hoping this goes to one of you!
Damn I wonder if they're done with the initial WL acceptances after the April 30th deadline and now the rest will only move if people already enrolling get off other waitlists. I hope not but it seems like the most likely scenario.

I’m sorry to hear that. Unfortunately BU is one of those schools that just WLs people instead of rejecting them. Their WL essentially acts as a soft rejection. It really stinks and I was in your position last year.

Damn, seriously? Waitlists are already bad enough, now we have to contend with this.

N = 2 but I feel like schools with historically high tuition do this. USC did the same thing to me last year. I guess there’s no telling if your accepted class will bail. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for the advice. Just to clarify, is your implication that there's not much waitlist movement at BU or that there's a low probability of getting off the WL since there's tons of people on it?

I'm working on my next app cycle with the assumption of an R regardless since I need to be ready in time for the next cycle.

Just wanted to say that there is movement at the moment -- I have friends who got off last week.

I emailed admissions yesterday inquiring about movement and they said they’ve “had very little movement on the waitlist.” So thats that I guess.

They did say that the bulk of movement happens in June but who knows

Did they say anything about movement going forward?
“We have had very little movement on the waitlist. Unfortunately, we do not provide any additional information about the waitlist.”
These two sentences are all I got... hoping for the best rn, but not expecting much from them tbh.

I remember the dean saying the same thing. I think she also mentioned that there is significant movement in July too.

for those of you who were successful in getting an II, did you write anything for the optional essays?
Yes, I wrote about my passions and, obviously, it didn’t work to start, but it worked in the long run! I wouldn’t leave it blank I would use it to develop your story as a human and applicant.

Hi guys. I will be applying in 2021. I was just wondering if my stats were okay to apply?
CGPA: 3.76
sGPA: 3.6
MCAT: 522
Extracurricular activities: 2 internships, 1 year of research (9 months wet lab, 4 months Human trafficking research), will be doing another year of research during gap year
Clinical Experience: worked in a health clinic as a referral specialist (scheduling patient appointments and served as the Membership Director for the internship program). Almost 80 hours of shadowing. Almost 200 hours of volunteering in pediatric hospital. Almost 100 hours volunteering in local and on campus food pantry.
Served as a students instructor for biology for 1 year
Leadership positions: 3 exec board positions for 3 students organizations and membership director for clinic's intern program.
Little concerned because my last two years of college weren't that great bc I had family issues, so I received a B- in biochemistry and microbe. In the fall semester of my senior year, I took an endocrinology class and got a C+ (I plan on retaking it at a good university near home). But my final semester, got all As. I worked by butt off for the MCAT. Is it okay to have some bumps in the grades? Should I consider a post bac?

You definitely don't need to take a post-bacc, seeing as you're already planning to retake one of your courses and it doesn't seem like you performed poorly in too many classes. I had worse GPA (with several B's and a C) and similar MCAT, interviewed at BU and several other schools.

Ofc your stats are okay to apply! To BU and to a lot of other schools.
I think your stats and EC are all amazing. The only thing is the downward trend in your GPA, which can be easily explained in your personal statement or secondary essays. I also had a C+ in college due to situations in my personal life. But that experience also motivated me to be a doctor. I don't think a post bac is necessary, esp when you take into consideration the cost of such a program.
Have confidence

Has anyone had any experiences with asking them to defer admission a year? I'm considering it since it seems pretty likely that classes will be online only and I don't think that's conducive with my learning style. I haven't had anything dramatic happen to me or my family but I could continue my job for another year if they would allow me to defer.

People from other threads have mentioned that it has to be an excruciating circumstance to defer. I think they’re still trying to make it a hybrid of online and in person. Shoot your shot tho!

no harm in asking. Just make a good case for it.

Are you referring to other BU specific threads or just overall medical school threads?

Just overall medical school threads. I have a friend from another medical school who was able to defer a year (but he’s already a rising M2). It’s possible!

Anyone know if BU has a preference for getting mostly MA residents off of the waitlist? Also curious to know if there has been any MAMS WL movement since someone posted about it ~2 weeks ago.

BU doesn't have a preference for MA residents, but it does have a preference for MAMS students from what I've observed

For people who are going to be living in the MSR, has anyone heard back regarding roommate selection or any move in info?

it's a yes/no thing, and if you click no, then you have 1400 characters to explain why not (AKA a gap year essay)

To make sure, for the first question about if you are going straight to medical school, if you click Yes then we do not have the space to write anything right?

BU was the ideal situation for me, having lived in Boston for these last few years, attended school at BU, and found my partner who is attending BUSM. Had to make the decision to withdraw from the BU WL today though. I hope some WL -> A movement does happen for someone 🙂

Thank you. I should also mention that I completed the MAMS program in the past. I really like BUSM and still have a ton of respect for the school. I am just really sad this didn’t work out. Hope the rest of you have better luck. It’s clearly a difficult school to get in to. All the best.
Can you DM me. I’m current mams
