Does anyone know much about how CU uses the WICHE program? Is there a possibility for students from WICHE states to receive in-state tuition?

The program you mentioned doesn’t apply to medical school. If you come in to CU as an out of state, you are required to sign a document that locks you in as OOS for all 4 years. Huge bummer with the high COA.

Alternate list today. Anyone know the likelihood of making it off this list?

EDIT: OOS, interviewed 11/15

Does anyone know anything about the alternate list? I think i read somewhere that last year they ranked people on the alternate list in april or sometime then and then sent out an email of your rank? Is it even worth it to send updates or anything till then? like do people get off the waitlist before they rank everyone?

I thought they don't accept Updates? Am I wrong?

Do you have any inclination of what you said or did during the interview that got you the R so fast?

good luck. You will be successful elsewhere.
Lol that’s a bold assumption. I honestly thought my interview went well. My stats are right about the average for this school so I just didn’t stand out I guess.

Sorry. I didn't mean to come across the way I did. I did not realize they were sending out R so fast post interview. Good luck with your other schools.

Anyone know when the last IIs were sent out on average the past few years/cycles?

I had a friend who I believe got her invite in February and interviewed one of their last days in March, so there’s still a few months left for offers. She was in-state though, not sure if they give OOS more time to plan travel.

Did your friend end up getting accepted?

Can anyone speak to the interview experience here? It seems like there are 3 components: observed group activity, group interview, and individual.... how did you (if so) prepare for the group interview part? Thank you!

We were asked to keep quiet on details. I will say No need to over stress it...

The first sentence of this is actually not true... Depending on your state of residency, @AdductorMagnus, you may be eligible to receive funding for CUSOM or other participating medical schools through WICHE's Professional Student Exchange Program. From the WICHE website:

"Students enrolled through PSEP pay reduced tuition. A student's home state pays a "support fee" to the enrolling school to reduce the cost of the student's education. Most students enrolled in public programs pay resident tuition; if the support fee does not cover the difference between resident and nonresident tuition, they may pay slightly more."

With assistance from WICHE PSEP, it is certainly possible to pay in-state or nearly in-state tuition at CUSOM, although you will never technically be classified as a Colorado resident. But whatever aid you are offered will depend on the availability of funds from your home state, and the scheme by which that state chooses to allocate their funds. (I know that my state holds an internal ranking of their applicants and then offers funding to them accordingly.) Unfortunately I don't have a strong sense of how often western state medical students actually receive enough PSEP funding to fully make up the difference between in and out-of-state tuition, but it is at least theoretically possible. You might want to contact your state's certifying officer about that question.

If you have further questions, I would definitely reach out to Colorado's admissions team. When I contacted them with WICHE questions in the past, their responses were both prompt and helpful.

The only advice I have for the group interview is to be intellectually/emotionally prepared for other candidates to have very different perspectives and opinions than you do. It seemed to me like the other applicants in my group interview were in strong agreement about some things that I saw differently, and I wish I had been better prepared for those imbalances. But in retrospect, that was 100% my bad and something I should have anticipated from any activity advertised as a "group interview."

Hopefully that helps without giving away any of the details!

Thank you for this -- this is helpful and I appreciate it.

It seems I was given some incorrect information in the past - sorry Adductor for passing on bad info! Thanks for correcting me and sharing all those details Aletheia. 🙂

im positive this has already been asked so my apologies, but Colorado does *NOT* accept updates, correct?

Please refer to pages 10, 11, 12 and likely every other page prior to this one.

Edited to add: sorry — that sounded much ruder than I intended it to, but the question has already been addressed quite a few times here. You are correct that Colorado unfortunately does not accept updates. 🙁
