The first sentence of this is actually not true... Depending on your state of residency,
@AdductorMagnus, you may be eligible to receive funding for CUSOM or other participating medical schools through WICHE's Professional Student Exchange Program. From the WICHE
website:
"Students enrolled through PSEP pay reduced tuition. A student's home state pays a "support fee" to the enrolling school to reduce the cost of the student's education. Most students enrolled in public programs pay resident tuition; if the support fee does not cover the difference between resident and nonresident tuition, they may pay slightly more."
With assistance from WICHE PSEP, it is certainly possible to pay in-state or nearly in-state tuition at CUSOM, although you will never technically be classified as a Colorado resident. But whatever aid you are offered will depend on the availability of funds from your home state, and the scheme by which that state chooses to allocate their funds. (I know that my state holds an internal ranking of their applicants and then offers funding to them accordingly.) Unfortunately I don't have a strong sense of how often western state medical students actually receive enough PSEP funding to fully make up the difference between in and out-of-state tuition, but it is at least theoretically possible. You might want to contact your state's certifying officer about that question.
If you have further questions, I would definitely reach out to Colorado's admissions team. When I contacted them with WICHE questions in the past, their responses were both prompt and helpful.
