@McNerdy are there many people with families attending Creighton? I was looking at the COA loan limits and they don’t give you a lot

I know it’s “based on” a single student COL, but other schools are definitely more generous in that regard

so 1. Yes there are some families. We in general have a younger class, but there is 1 older individual off the top of my head in my class with elementary/middle school age children. Many more of the families are young married couple who are pregnant / have a child <3yrs.

2. I think our COL is quite fine for a single individual but if your loans will be the sole income for like a family of 5 that could be problematic. I have not noticed many other universities that have exponentially higher living allotments for cost of living. I suppose a university in major city may have a higher loan allotment but I find it to believe it is significantly harder when adjusting for cost of living in those areas. Perhaps im wrong but I never found this to be true during my application process.

Thanks! Yeah, just a young family (2 small kids), but I’m sure if other people have done it then it shouldn’t be an issue.

One of the saving graces is lower cost of living (at least compared tothe east coast city I used to live in). If your partner has any income to accompany your loan allotment I think you’ll be fine. Most of my classmates with families have partners who work and they all seem to be doing fine financially/ aren’t in financial hardship.

rent is significantly cheaper, myself and many of my colleagues routinely rent 4-5 bedroom houses for total rent costs including utilities under 2k. With that being said I’d think you could find a relatively affordable housing option for your family. gas isn’t too expensive, even general groceries are cheaper than where I used to live on the east coast.

It was awesome! Really really laid back. New med student building, new curriculum, loved it.

Also for those of you wondering, I asked the admissions director about number of acceptances and he said it is normally around 400

Glad it went well! Wow, 400?! That seems way high. Good to know.

Not too much different than I expected. Most schools accept 2-2.5x more than matriculate, which is right around 400 for Creighton. It did make me feel a little better at the interview though 👍

Can anyone give advice on emailing medical school admissions about the status of an application regarding an interview invitation? It's been ~3 weeks since I got my completion email from Creighton but haven't heard about an interview. Am I being impatient?

My advice is don't. There will be schools where you won't hear back until January or February about an interview IF you get one. I'm pretty sure last year Creighton didn't outright reject me until May. Just wait.

Jesus that was accurate
We’ve all fashioned oars out of our embellished ECs, and are using our brittle GPA/MCAT to help guide us to our destination, but the ADCOM river shows clear indifference to our struggles. As the SS SDN begins to break apart in mid-September, the crew begins to abandon ship hoping our LOR Life rafts offer a safe haven in these trying times. While there is Hope, it is fleeting as our judgement day approaches.

Should I be prepared for the worst if I have to wait more than a month?

Boiii it’s been 2 months for me
+1. It's a crapshoot and submission has a tenuous bearing at best on when people get II's in general, so all our attempts to gain insight into the process has pretty much just made us more neurotic.

Same. Submitted 7/18 and just patiently waiting. I do have another interview in Omaha in a couple weeks. It would have been nice to try to do both in one trip since it’s a 12 hour drive.... but still hopeful!

Dang, have you heard of anyone quick getting interview notices? like within a few weeks? Or is this the norm for Creighton?

Im sure there’s people that hear back within the week. But there’s also people that hear back after many, many months. At the end of the day, we don’t know the process for this school or any school, so just try not to worry too much about it and you’ll be pleasantly surprised (hopefully) when an II turns up out of nowhere

I looked through past years' threads, and it looks like Creighton sends out IIs either within days of being complete or months lol

How was the student interview if you don't mind me asking? Since they're both open-file, I was wondering if your two interviews asked a lot of the same questions

It was super chill. He asked some typical questions like greatest strength/weakness, how do you deal with stress, etc. very conversational.

My faculty interview was also super laid back but none of the same questions. I worked for Epic (the EHR) so we just talked about that for a while and we chatted about his practice (he’s still a clinician).

I like open file because they don’t need to ask about everything. They just talk about what they want to talk about.

Yeah, you're being a typical neurotic med applicant.
I know students who have submitted applications in september and got invites a week later. I know people who submitted in July and didnt get an interview offer until February.

Welcome to the game.

I hate myself for asking but... LM?
Umm from what I remember I think my score is like 65ish? My stats are weird, my cumulative ugpa is 3.42 (but I had a big gap and a bunch of bad grades in the first portion), grad gpa 3.94, URM, over 1,000 clinical volunteering hours

EDIT: 65.2 using my undergrad gpa only, 68 if I average everything out

Has anyone who interviewed used the student host option? If so, how was it? I feel kind of awkward staying with a random person for two nights, but it’s also much more budget friendly

Mine was ok. I probably would have done an Airbnb had I done it over again. It was nice getting a ride to and from the interview. My host was an M1 so he had only been in class for like 2 weeks. Not a lot he could tell me.

Agreed! The matching process is pretty random so no guarantees youll click with the person and I feel like I would have actually liked the freedom of being able to explore by myself.

not sure if you mean pre- or post-interview, but at interview day they said they're very receptive to short and sweet updates post-II through their portal!

I wish it was post II lol but no i mean pre-II
