2019-2020 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone who was put on hold hear back? I think I saw someone say so but I only saw once. Hold pre-II mid July

Could anyone who has already interviewed please tell me the schedule of the interview day? I’m interviewing in the PM session tomorrow and I never received an itinerary.

arrive -> orientation-> talk/ q&a with admin -> student interview -> faculty interview -> essay. Some things are reversed cause a good chunk of free time

haha thanks! I didn't realize that people would remember me from other posts 😳 haha
100% Altruism!
That and the sweet Wake Forest acceptance 😛
just joshin' ya! Congrats!
The good news is that your congratulation is well deserved and your II declination is much appreciated! Congrats again, future doc!

This may have been answered before but did anyone who was put on hold in July receive an interview yet?

It’s the top 15% that are eligible but idk further than that. They haven’t announced AOA for my class yet either.
But do they consider preclinical grades, clinical grades, or both? And stuff like volunteering/research/step/etc.?

The top 25% are eligible. Faculty vote on these and select up to 18% of the 4th year class for AOA. AOA went out to selected individuals in August so that we could put it on ERAS before we applied

Hahah well there ya go

sorry if this has already been asked but is any portion of the interview day outside? thanks in advance.

does anyone who has attended the interview day remember the name of the lady who gave the curriculum presentation?

Does anyone know how they handle thank you notes?

Has anyone who interviewed previously been on hold? Or is the pre II hold basically a rejection?

Looked throughout this thread but have seen varying answers so thought I would ask: is Drexel receptive to receiving updates after receiving a decision? And if so, is it possible to send in an update via email if needed given that they only allow one file submission for an update in their portal?

Re: Letters of Intent/Interest
This is what I was told by faculty/staff who has an inside look on the admissions process:
Drexel is receptive to and takes LOI's seriously, but do not send one until two or three weeks after you have been deferred.
The LOI is appreciated but it does not add value to you application. It will not make or break your admission; just serves as a reminder that you exist and that you really want to go to drexel.
The committee just recently looked at your application and decided that it didn't wow them enough for an outright admission, but didn't warrant a rejection either. If you send an LOI right away and they review your file without time having passed, they'll likely reach the same decision again. Waiting a couple of weeks allows them to come back to your application with fresh eyes, after reviewing applicants who were lower on their list than you. When they open up your file amidst the other applicants, its looked at in a different light.

What an LOI needs:
A genuine reason that Drexel is a high priority for you. Do some research about the medical school, what about it connects to you and your core values? How have you demonstrated those core values in the past and since this application cycle started? Do you have any home ties to the school/area. Give them a reason to believe that you want to be a DUCOM and aren't just throwing an LOI at them because its your last hope of admission this cycle or are sending LOI's to every school you applied to.

To add about updates. Follows the same rules as above. Don't send them until after a little while has passed, make sure they're meaningful and will add to your file or explain a significant achievement since your application was submitted. You can send more than one via email and they'll add to your file, but more than three would be excessive.
