2019-2020 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is it okay to send 2 updates? Sent one previously, but now have another update I'd like to send them. I'm on hold

It says in the Pre-Matriculation requirements "Final Transcript received" and then it's unchecked next to that. Do I have to send ANOTHER transcript even though I wasn't enrolled in classes during the cycle?
Yup every school requires you to send in another final transcript to them.

Yet another one of Drexel’s home city rotation sites going down, shame. After working in the system for so long it’s really sad to see
Still gonna be a Dragon though

"Pennsylvania law does not allow freestanding emergency departments, which means that the busy department would go away if inpatient services stop."

What a stupid law

To be fair stand alone ERs are kind of useless. With no beds you’d have to transfer every boarding patient. I would imagine there would be a lack of lab processing abilities, imaging, consults, etc. it would basically be an urgent care

Oh! No totally fair. Just sucks we lost another site where students do IM and EM.

They have lots of them here in Minnesota and they seem to work ok... n=1

Yeah not trying to argue but I am sure they were designed that way! From this proposal sounds like it would have just been the ER remaining form the rest of the hospital which would fit into the blueprint I had originally stated where there would be a lack of resources. Stand alone ERS that are built and designed that way I am sure have the potential to do a better job.

With Drexel's hospital going bankrupt, where are students doing rotations now?

Here’s the thing, it isn’t as though all 500 clinical students (M3s/4s) were at HUH for clerkships.

Drexel has a lot of affiliate sites all over in PA/NJ/DE.

Plenty of community hospitals throughout Philadelphia
Level 1 Trauma Center in York
Pittsburgh
One California site
Multiple NJ sites
Soon to be Reading Health

Drexel pays for housing for out of city rotations

Oh, wow. Good.to.know about the paying for out of city rotations part. I had no idea. Thanks for that!

Does anybody have the link to the 2024 accepted student's facebook group? The link in my portal sends me to the 2022 facebook page. Should I request to join? Is it just mislabeled?

Hi guys, I'm curious to know how you think the STEP change should impact where we decide to matriculate this year. I am waiting to hear back from here regarding an early Feb interview but have been accepted to my state school already. My state school has also me a scholarship. Do you guys still think following the money is the best option? or should we now be attempting to go to the most competitive school since the STEP scores are not P/F. Any opinion is great, thanks.

Did you send any update letters? I was complete 7/28 then put on hold 8/6. Sent a few updates but still silence

nope! I didn’t send in any letters thinking hold was a soft R. Keep your hopes up!

Probably follow the money. Drexel is middle of the road for research and opportunities. Your state school is probably similar (depending on the state obviously).

So anywhere between 5 days from now to 2 months. Thanks Drexel

On the bright side I guess it's at least good to look forward to certain dates...

Looking back on the thread it looks like it takes about 2 months. So expect March, but you may be pleasantly surprised in 5 days!

For those who interviewed, was your "Situational Essay" from the interview day ever marked complete on the portal? I feel like the admission women who was our leader for the day said she would mark it as complete, but mine is still incomplete and I'm starting to worry given that the next release day is less than a week from today. TYIA!

If i am on "hold" or deferred post-interview does that mean the same as waitlist, essentially?

I wouldn't stress too much over it. I was accepted back in November and I remember seeing mine still up on the portal even after my acceptance. The tab has since disappeared, so if you feel the need to contact admissions for peace of mind I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. However, I really think its nothing to worry about.
