What is the appropriate length for a letter of interest
 
I just received the email about the second look event for accepted students. What are folks' opinions about going to it? Current GW students, would you recommend attending to it? Also, any idea what time it started and ended in the previous years?

I heard from students last year that its helpful if you are making a decision between places so I'll probably go!
 
I was just waitlisted. Interviewed early/mid November. Complete in August. Wahhh but also yay??

Honestly very well. But I personally think interviews are only to confirm you aren't a sociopath or have zero interest in the school. I'm positive I was waitlisted because of my meh stats (LM 67).

how did the bad one go? was that the student interviewer or the faculty?
 
Anybody know what percentage of students get off the waitlist? And does movement start after April 30?

Edit: sorry, just used the search function. Apparently they take a good amount of people off the waitlist, and it's advised to send a letter of intent.
 
On the alternate list. Send an update and a LOI. Interviewed 11/7. Ugh ):

I just searched on this specific thread "waitlist movement" and saw that some people referenced last year's thread, where people *did* get off the waitlist. So now I am looking through last year's thread haha. I can let you know if I find anything conclusive

It was with the faculty member. He asked really vague questions and in a weird way. For example he would say, “It looks like they want to know something about your academics.” Then after my answer it seemed like he was not satisfied with my response. It was a very strange interview.

2019 WL movement:

April 16 = director of admissions says that some slight movement typically happens mid to late April with the majority of the movement happening through the month of May. But the list is "viable" through late July.

April 23 = 2 people on SDN accepted off WL

April 30 = someone gets an email that says "I am writing to see if you are interested in a seat here at GW"? (then got accepted)

May 1 = "likely to be accepted" emails start being sent out by director of admissions --> if you respond that you're interested you will be accepted basically
-one student WL with a late November interview sent in one letter of intent in mid-February and another one in mid-March
-another student said they wrote a letter of interest and sent in several updates, but never did an official letter of intent

May 1 - May 9 = acceptances off WL! (on SDN)

May 10 - July 2 = silence on SDN

May 29 = someone in admissions said the waitlist was pretty much stable

June 17 = email stating "waitlist movement has slowed"

July 2 = someone is accepted off the waitlist! (on SDN)

Takeaway: send a couple of letters of interest/intent throughout feb-april

omg I think we had the same interviewer lmaooo. I think he's just very doctor-y and not good at interviews. it seemed like he was embarrassed that he had to ask these questions that he probably would feel awkward/unprepared answering himself. or he felt awkward that there were questions he had to ask, instead of just having a free-flowing convo. definitely don't overthink it
