No one likes a soft R or a soft D. Ill leave this thread now 😆 however, interesting discussion here I will sayThat the hold was just because they hadn’t gotten to us yet not a soft D
Edit: soft R*
wait so is the hold a soft R or a "chill out we havent gotten to you yet"That the hold was just because they hadn’t gotten to us yet not a soft D

Well, the above people who are getting interviews after the hold should answer your question...wait so is the hold a soft R or a "chill out we havent gotten to you yet"
I think it's more of a chill out we haven't gotten to you yet. I was put on hold and then ~1 week later I got an II.wait so is the hold a soft R or a "chill out we havent gotten to you yet"
Nope. Only update I have is the fact that I now check my email far more than I shouldpeople who got interviews after the hold; did you send an update letter?
people who got interviews after the hold; did you send an update letter?
Also to add- recently interviewed and left really, really impressed
But I know it’s a crapshoot so trying not to get my hopes up 😳
My first MMI today and it wasn’t as stressful as I thought it would be. Your broken into two groups (1 interviews while the others tour).
Lunch was super good! Probably the best lunch I’ve had amongst all interviews, even though it was just sandwiches.
Tour was also long. Girls- I think it’s acceptable to bring flats or whatever you girls call them and change into them for the tour bc id imagine heels are brutal
Students were amazing. Super nice, happy, and communicative- you will have plenty of opportunity to interact w them.
Were the MMI prompts more situational or personal? And are the stations (except 12 min trad) closed-file?Also to add- recently interviewed and left really, really impressed

I wanna piggyback on this. I thought NYU was easier than Duke.Everything is closed file, including the trad.
It’s a good mix
Interesting, I actually thought the opposite, but that could just be bc I had a bit more practice by the time I had my Duke one.I wanna piggyback on this. I thought NYU was easier than Duke.
Jeezus thats just cruelSo I asked the admissions office directly. They are interviewing the same number as previous year (~1000) and accepting about 110 out right and then pulling about 50 from the waitlist. Overall post II acceptance rate at ~15%
"Also let's not kid ourselves here. If you're getting an NYU interview you're getting a lot of others."
where they @ tho
Those are his secondaries, not his IIs13 schools...
I think the implication was that they didn’t apply to many schools so shouldn’t expect many IIs at this point in the cycle. But either way, there is still time! Those are his secondaries, not his IIs
pretty ballsy.. I feel way over applied.I think the implication was that they didn’t apply to many schools so shouldn’t expect many IIs at this point in the cycle. But either way, there is still time!
Ahh shoot I think you are right. Didn't even think of that nuance. Sorry if I misinterpreted!!I think the implication was that they didn’t apply to many schools so shouldn’t expect many IIs at this point in the cycle. But either way, there is still time!
Lol I feelpretty ballsy.. I feel way over applied.
basically, the month before my MCAT came out, I panic-sent primaries.. and my husband threatened going out to buy another car lol. I stopped spending money.Lol I feel
Ok, valid point. Applying to 13 schools unfortunately stems from my financial situation :'(13 schools...

I think the odds are zero. Why would they care enough about your feelings to give you a "soft" R instead of a regular R? Because your high stats mean they might want to come back to you? That's the definition of a hold! What are the odds y'all think that not receiving a hold = soft R at this point? Submitted late july

Despite your early submission and high stats, you are simply, clearly, for whatever reason not in some preferred category that received an early review, so you have nothing (no II, Hold or R), which, logically, can only mean they are not done reviewing you yet!!! 🙂
As all of the adcoms keep saying, you just have to chill and be patient. Everyone seems to think they should be at the top of the pile, and they freak out when other people receive a response and they don't. They literally have over 6,000 applications to go through, and there have been around 8 weeks since you submitted. Why would you possibly think no action on your application during that time means anything other than you are not an auto R and they haven't finished reviewing you yet???

Dean of admissions said that those "continued review" emails were sent to everybody who had yet to receive an interview decision but was complete by a certain date, and that it's very possible nobody had even looked at your application yet.
They were very transparent, and I appreciate this a lot.
I guess I didn't know that xP but some people did get II's the day after receiving that email.Guess they shouldn't have written "we've received and reviewed your application" lol
NYU is probably the single most arrogant school in this whole process.
When you all them, it sounds like a commercial company on the phone. When you email them, they auto-responded with totalyl a non-sequitur about their News feature in the 60 mins a thousand years ago.... Totally turned off by them.Hahahahahahaha. What makes you say that?

Except it’s a big “we couldn’t care less about you applicants, because we are NYU” vibe.Lol I did get that same auto respond about the 60 min segment. Found it pretty funny tbh
Seriously I was searching and trying to post it too. So bizarre given this happened more than a year ago.For those wondering, this was the auto reply.

With your stats, it is highly likely you are going to do very well! I'm sure you already have several IIs, correct? Given the attention NYU is sure to get this year, and given what I have to believe will be a tremendous spike in applications caused by the publicity around free tuition, I really wouldn't focus on NYU and wouldn't consider it to be indicative of how anyone's cycle will go. This sucks for me personally, since it's a school I think I would have been very competitive for before this year, and would have otherwise been a great match for me, but I have a feeling that I am going to have zero chance for an A when I apply given how crazy competitive it is starting this year.Lol because I'm neurotic af and this process seems crafted to extrude as much anxiety from us as possible!
Yeah, you're right, but that's what happens when a T10 school doesn't charge tuition. Are you considering making a stand by withdrawing your application? If not, then the way they are treating people isn't going to hurt them at all!Except it’s a big “we couldn’t care less about you applicants, because we are NYU” vibe.
It happened a year ago, but the segment just aired a few months ago, and this is the first cycle, starting from June 1st, where everyone knows the deal.Seriously I was searching and trying to post it too. So bizarre given this happened more than a year ago.
