2019-2020 Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
AACOMAS sent my app to Rowan last week and it's verified, but I haven't received an email from them confirming that they got my primary...

Interviewed 8/23, still haven't heard back. Anyone from this interview date hear back yet?

Anyone out there in the PBL program that can talk about their experience? It's something that I'm legitimately interested in, but I'd love to hear more from someone who has been through it.

If you contact admissions you can arrange to shadow one of their pbl students for a day. I did it a week or so ago and it was pretty helpful

What did you think about it?
I could definitely see the appeal of it and everyone I met seemed to love the program but I’d have to look at the scores for pbl students compared to those who had traditional curriculums before I make a decision

Yeah, I feel the same way. That said, they did have an informational video on their website about the PBL program and their Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (Dr. Boyd) said that their PBL students score on par with, or better than their traditional curriculum students.

Sure! 3.65 GPA, and 503 MCAT. Was complete 9/10.
Good luck!
Thank you! I was complete back in 7/23 with a 3.4sGPA/3.57 GPA/508 MCAT and Rowan SOM is my absolute 1st choice school. Does anybody have any advice for what I can do in the meantime until I hear back? Anxiety is at an all-time high since I'm a reapplicant

I'm also a reapplicant. I think you can try calling admissions and ask about your application status, but unfortunately we just have to wait.

They probably prioritize high stat apps first (>3.7, >510) and now are getting to average/below average for the school. Hope you hear soon!

blueflame is actually around the school's median. And Birdie was around the same. We can't predict how apps are stratified, could be EC's/LOR's/whose essays they liked the most.

MWSapphire's conjecture makes the most sense from the school's perspective. In that case, SOM will likely offer admission to the best candidates as early on as they can to try to retain them, and subsequently try to fill seats with other apps with lower stats. Of course, we can't confirm this but the logic is there to reassure anyone else in our shoes waiting to hear back.

Do with this what you will but my app is painfully average in regards to everything besides mcat/gpa and I got my II pretty early so it certainly seems like the first person was correct in that they heavily emphasized stats for the first few interviews and are now going to start reviewing/offering IIs to those with slightly lower stats

You also need to consider that this school is HEAVILY in-state biased. There could be stellar OOS applicants with no II simply because they're OOS.

ACCEPTED!!!!!! Interviewed 8/27. Didn't receive a call, I checked the portal just now and saw the admission offer tab. Beyond excited, this feeling is truly surreal.
Got the call earlier today at around 4pm!! Interviewed 8/27 with Dr. P

Have you guys, or any other accepted students, tried to make the deposit (under the admissions offer tab) on the portal & it didn't let you? Do we have to do it via mail/ will we get something in the mail that we are supposed to return? It seems like we can do it online but it also has instructions to do it via mail. Thanks!

my interpretation of the message on the portal is that we have to send a check for 190 in the mail after we receive the acceptance packet in the mail.

Just received a secondary. Anyone know how long Rowan's cycle runs? Don't wanna submit my secondary too late. Thanks.

Would anybody be willing to vet my rowan secondary? Please and thanku 🙂

Hey guys for the secondary, there's a 1000 word limit but do they expect 1000 or will 300-400 be fine? I can get my point across in that everything else will just be fluff.

Submitted secondary just now. For those whose app is complete, how long did it take for them to receive the LORs? Mine are through AACOMAS.

Is there a turnaround limit on the secondary? I don't see any mentioned in the email or web link, but sometimes they're sneaky about it. I got it about 8 days ago but NYITCOM has that 10-day limit thing.

anyone who hears back today can you say which date you interviewed? Also did anyone have an interview where the interviewer spoke more than you did? hoping that was good sign

Have you guys submitted reference letters to the school using Interfolio? If yes, did you send it to [email protected] ? I submitted my letters to AACOMAS and they were directly sent to Rowan but I have one more letter that I would like to send to the school via Interfolio. However, I'm not sure if I should use the above-mentioned email.

I have been complete since September 11th, No response. I'm afraid its a silence rejection lol.

I've been complete since July and I haven't heard anything yet, either. At this point, I'm just staying hopeful because this process is a massive test of patience. You never know what might happen in the future, so don't worry about when they contact you, but about what you can tell them when they do contact you.

same! I am holding out hope because it's my top choice! They interview into next year, so I am sure they have many more interview invites to send out

I wouldn’t worry about that. I have a few friends who go here who submitted really early and didn’t get interviews until November. One of my friends who had really high stats didn’t get accepted until December one year and he was complete in June. There’s no rhyme or reason as to how they interview applicants.
