Anyone have any suggestions on how to improve chances of getting in post-II. I interviewed recently and I am waiting for the 2 week decision but if I get active consideration I definitely want to submit something to help my case. I already submitted one update in october which I am pretty sure helped me get the II in the first place so I am considering submitting another update (I've done a fair amount since october) as well a letter of interest/intent. I've interviewed at 3 other schools and this one is by far my favorite. Absolutely loved my visit.

Do you think it would be too much to submit an update as well as a letter of interest/intent? Or should I just combine the two? Do you think it would be appropriate to submit a letter of intent at this timeframe in the cycle?

Hello, the answer is yes it is too much.

In my interview day in September, I asked the director of admission when to send an update post II. She said nothing sent in after interview will be seen before your decision is made. She says they “freeze” the application the day of the interview. So it would be a waste to send in a letter of interest or intent now.

Also letters of interests hardly carry weight. Letters of intent only carry weight if you have another acceptance or else you look desperate. So no,
Just wait for your decision. The only thing you can do to help ur post II chances, is get in a time machine and go back in time to ur interview day

Sorry if it wasn’t clear. I am talking about post-II decision, like if I get active consideration/ waitlist. Obviously hoping for the A but thinking ahead just in case. when do you guys think it would be approprite to send some more info? Do you think applications “frozen” even after an initial decision is made?

Sorry if I sound crazy neurotic. The stress of waiting to get back decisions Is wearing me down haha

Just wait until you get a decision. And then come back and ask. Patience 🙂 no need to stress right now

What are people's thoughts about the flipped classroom curriculum? I definitely got positive vibes on interview day, but comments online (mostly here) seem contradictory. I loved the people I met on interview day but I guess I can't shake off the ~15-20 hrs/wk spent in mandatory sessions + not knowing if I'll be successful with this type of teaching style since I've never experienced anything like it before...

Here’s the thing that’s so difficult about it — people only do one or the other so it’s impossibel for students to really compare. They’re very different, if you want to learn by reading from a 100 page packet where the material is integrated into medical cases or if you want someone to stand up and explain the basic science in the context of the basic science. They’re completely different and depend on your learning style.

I submitted my secondary on August 4 and haven't heard anything. Do you guys think I still have a shot at getting a IA?

We literally have no idea. I don’t think want to be mean and I hope it doesn’t come accross as such. But everyone still have a chance they’re still scheduling interviews through January

My only concern about it is the possible disorganization about it. The idea of large teams and over 100 people in a room with multiple professors rotating around concerns me that a lot will be lost. Am I incorrect for thinking this? I was accepted into another school that does flipped classroom/PBL as well but it's in one room with one facilitator and I feel like that's a more organized way to approach it. Is anyone able to comment that would disagree?

I mean you are correct. From what I have heard you grab whatever
"professor" is closest and hope its the person that has the answer. Its just a different way of learning- not necessarily a bad one-- or the easiest one--just different.

Personally I like flipped classrooms because it allows for more active learning. Lecture based education is very passive to me and I never understood concepts well by listening to someone talk, especially if they just read off slides. Learning by myself then actively trying to figure out problems conceptually with a small group really helps concepts stick, but that's just what works for me.

Right there’s no doubt that it works for some people! The hard part is knowing what’s going to work for you before actually doing it.

Something that did stand out to me is how you take a quiz worth virtually nothing almost every class and they use that data to individually track you and create a customized plan to prepare you for step. I did feel like while the curriculum is a lot and different there is definitely a personalized approach.

Was this info given on interview day too? I honestly have no idea how I missed this
They talked about it during the curriculum talk and I think people asked about it so it was more explicitly stated. People asked the students too on the tour.

Anyone else waiting on that active consideration decision? has anyone who was put under active consideration heard back?

Everyone’s still waiting! Last year everyone heard on December 20th, 8 acceptances, 2 waitlists (1 turned into acceptance), and one kept on active consideration (turned into waitlist). Signed my neuroticism.

Do they release decisions all at once or sporadic throughout the day? If it is all at once, what time do they usually release decisions?

I received mine around 11am CT! And to my knowledge, they release them all at once (that is how they made it sound on interview day)

Got mine at around 7:30 AM PST. A few of the other fellow interviewees I also connected with also got theirs around the same time.

For anyone who got waitlisted or active consideration, did you feel like you underperformed in the interviews, thus contributing to that decision?

I got a WL. No I thought I interviewed well. Was kind of surprised, but it’s part of the game

Active consideration this early on has a high chance of turning into an A

You said they give decisions for those (well, start giving them) toward the end of December, correct? If I understand correctly, they continue to do that until April 30th and then any remaining AC's turn into waitlists?

This is my amateur understanding. Active consideration is in two phases: 1st half (August- December) and 2nd half (January- end of cycle).

That first active consideration group which will hear around Christmas is comprised of many early interviewees which I can imagine were prioritized by the committee when doing application review. Now one has to remmeber rush accepts 70 percent of the applicants it interviews. That’s a LOT of acceptances. It seems as if they give out some acceptances and then around Christmas give a lot more acceptances to that first active consideration bunch. Which makes sense right, if you’re accepting over 2/3 that’s a lot of acceptances to give.

Now if you are put on active consideration after the new year (the second group) i believe that is more likely to turn into a waitlist than for the first group. These are applicants who— very well deserve to be accepted— but there are less As to give. From what I saw on last year’s thread it is best to be placed on active consideration before Christmas — rather than after. Hope that all made sense it is a bit confusing.

No, that's much more clear and makes sense. Thank you for the detailed explanation.

Does anyone know the chances of active consideration interviewed 11/20, would I be in the second group of active considerations at the end of the cycle?

I doubt it, but it will say in your email. If it says they’ll contact you before the new year you’ll be in the first one

3rd cycle applying to medical school. First cycle no interviews, 2nd cycle waitlisted at schools with no luck, 3rd cycle...just received my first acceptance here today. Countless hours of effort, self-doubt, and stress to get to this point. Literally teared up when I got the email this morning. Beyond ecstatic to be given this privilege and finally make my dream come true. For those in a similar situation, keep pushing... you'll get there!

CONGRATULATIONS! Amazing you should be very proud of yourself for being so resilient. I am sure you will be an amazing doctor. Do you mind if I ask how many waitlist you held last cycle? I am currently sitting on 3 WL and I still have 5 interviews so I know I am in an incredible position but I just get nervous with this being it.

I was only on 2 waitlists, so you're already in a better position than me plus all those other interviews. You've got this!

This made me so so happy. Congratulations, you're going to be amazing.
