For HPA there is generally decent movement but it depends on the year. I have friends that attend Upstate and were pulled from the HPA list. Some tips from them were that you can call the office towards the end of the cycle and they will tell you your chances, they will say "typically we reach past your spot" vs "we have reached your spot in the past but it isn't common". Your movement on the HPA list can also be impacted by the rotation location you pick for 3rd year.

Do you know if movement off the HPA occurs over the course of the next 6 months or does it only begin to happen towards May? Either way good info to know!

Yep but don't lose hope, HPA list is apparently pretty active though! Personally, this wasn't totally unexpected. Some of those MMI questions really threw me off and I didn't walk out of there too confident.

I'm not positive but I do believe they wait until their interview season is over and then rank the HPA list in March/April, and then they start pulling people in April-May (sometimes even early June). Movement is usually pretty good on the HPA so you guys all still have a chance!!
 
I think I just got an II? My portal says has a message, but I didn’t get an email?!

Update: I was able to schedule my interview, so here's hoping! Complete 8/17

I never got an email about it either, even in my spam. You have to check your portals regularly, as much as a pain it is!

Congrats to the first round of accepted students! 🙂 Now lets hope you choose other schools so I can get off this wait-list. :whistle:

Feels weird to see all y’all with your acceptances knowing my interview is still over a month away. :laugh: Still, very happy for y’all!
 
Anyone else not able to access their acceptance letter via the portal? I just get an error message
 
If you have a 10:45 AM interview is that when you should arrive? or do you arrive at 8 AM and you're just part of a later interview time slot than the 8:45 AM folk?
 
I think I read somewhere that a third of all matriculsnts are taken off the HPA list. Not evidence for that though

Maybe? But they have no reason to do that. Since the list doesn't even begin to move until May, seems like they should be able to rearrange the list for their liking well after the last of the waitlist decisions are out.
 
Just received an interview invite but have to rush off after interview. For those who interviewed in the morning (8:45AM), what time did the interview day officially end? In the portal, it says around 2PM but realistically how close to that estimate was your day? Please and thank you.

Did you receive the II through the portal or email?

Did they say they don’t start pulling people off until May? I thought since it’s an “active” ranked list they start dropping into it as time goes on. Kinda sounds like that on the website too.

Hm, I could be wrong but based on what I understood from the Dean's statement at the interview, mid-May is when students can start calling and asking about their chances given their waitlist position. It made it seem like movement doesn't happen until then. Maybe past years' threads would have the answer but I'm too lazy to check haha

I'd imagine it occurs before May. If I remember correctly, the AAMC has changed some rules (for both students and schools) so it is a bit difficult to know when they'll start pulling. I'd say it's a bit too early to start pulling from the HPA anyway since it's relatively early in the interviewing season. They are still outright accepting students.

Yeah I remember them saying something about not calling until around then. Maybe some people get pulled off along the way if you’re higher up. Thanks for the input!

I received an email before even my monitoring program could have detected the change in the portal. That said, the email, in my case, was extremely reliable. N=1 though. Check both - to play it safe. Best of luck!
 
Can anyone tell me anything about the MD/PhD interview at Upstate? interviewing in about a month
 
Is anyone else having trouble logging onto myUpstate? I'm not sure what I should use for the PIN
