When do M1s start class?? Is it different at all the regional sites or is it synchronized? It looks like they didn't start till August last year, but I wanted to double-check because that is a month later than just about everywhere else.

Mid August is the typical start time/date. Each site does things a bit differently however. The Wyoming students travel to the NOLS school and spend a week living together and completing a wilderness ems certification. We also spent time in the cadaver lab, microbiology lab, and in lectures. We also have IT personnel work with us regarding all of the tech stuff. Financial aid, student affairs, and a dozen more WWAMI leaders come to talk with us.It is a TON of work but something much more in depth than other sites.

This immersion period is intense but a load of fun.

If the FAFSA is meant to be submitted by the 15th, does that mean I can submit it tomorrow and it will be on time, or do I need to submit it by this evening?

Long-shot question here: does anyone know any current med. students who were accepted into WWAMI but decided NOT to matriculate there? Would love to hear more from someone who chose another program over this one.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I wholeheartedly support everything you're doing with your username/avi/signature!!!

Anyone know when the next EXCOM meeting will be? End of this month?

For Washington, or for all the WWAMI states? (I confess that I don't fully understand how the ExCom works amongst the regional sites, but I do know that decisions for at least one of the non-Washington states are being made today.)

I believe that the EXCOM is for all sites; for regional decisions, the regional members are involved. For Seattle decisions they aren't (I think). I'm interested in Seattle, but good to know they are meeting for another site. Good luck to whoever that includes!!!

I got an R on Jan 25 last year, just wondering if I should be mentally preparing over the next week! Fingers crossed for another SUC or an A 🙂

That makes sense! Thanks for the info. We were told accepted students should expect to receive phone calls this weekend (today through as late as Sunday), and that waitlist and rejection emails would be sent next week. 😳

Hoping you hear great news, and soon!

Speaking of Montana... did they mention if there are normally many slots for people outside of Montana to do rotations there? I've heard Billings is usually more available

does every region offer a dinner mixer the night before? If you did it, what did you think?

The Wyoming regional site did when I was replying. It was.....okay. Nothing Earth shattering or information I couldn't live without. If you have nothing else to do, going would at least break the monotony of waiting. But don't feel any heartache if you miss it either. There aren't any administrators or adcoms that go (at least for the Wyoming one), so no schmoozing with decision making folks.

what, not a plethora of amazing food destinations in Laramie? I know we went to Applebee’s and sonic on track trips... haha

Haha! As always, good info. I figured I would be there anyway, so I will attend. I did complete my mock interview last night, I’m glad I did it. Any practice helps, and I received some great feedback. I had though so hard about “why medicine?”, I didn’t even think to prepare for “Tell me about yourself.” Now I will!

Got the A call today for seattle!

for those ruminating over their interviews who haven't heard back yet, i said some ~v dumb~ stuff during mine and it somehow turned out well lol-- so have hope!!

Edit: PM me for details! Trying to preserve the illusion of anonymity for now haha

My friend's friend just got the call that he's accepted! I guess Seattle is sending out acceptances today??
Do you know when they interviewed?

Congrats! Can I ask when you interviewed?

I interviewed in October, accepted off SUC! Prefer not to say excom here, but I hope you hear good news soon!

Thanks so much!! And no worries 🙂 it sounds like most people hearing back right now are from earlier interviews and are being accepted off SUC. I interviewed less than a month ago, so I feel like I can still have hope even if I don’t hear back today.

Plus the majority of admitted students get at least one SUC anyway! Ik the wait sucks but March is just around the corner for those still waiting

Very true, thanks for the advice! First time applicant here, and the wait is agonizing.
The wait is the worst part. This is my second application cycle, but I don’t even feel like the same applicant. So much has changed since then and I enjoy the process a lot more. I also stress a lot more because I am getting OLD!

Congrats everyone! I don’t know what others vibes were, but I felt like my interview day here wasn’t that great compared to other schools. Also, the students at Seattle didn’t seem to have a tight knit community as there are a lot of non trads who have families and established community already in Seattle. I felt like they downplayed UW’s research strengths. Curious to hear others thoughts?

UW has the highest matriculation rates of any school in the country, so I think they just aren’t trying to sell their school on interview day. I personally found that refreshing because I knew UW was my top choice and I found some other similarly ranked schools trying too hard to sell the school to interviewees. But if you didn’t have connections to the school and just wanted a better picture of what the school has to offer, I could see how that could be disappointing. I met a few students that seemed to have a pretty tight knit group, but I do get where you are coming from. I agree they didn’t sell their research strength on interview day at all. But as a UW undergrad there were so many opportunities to get involved in research, and I’m sure as a medical student there are even more opportunities. They have the second highest total grant funding for research for any institution in the country, and that just goes to show how many research opportunities exist here. I think UW is the type of school that there are so many opportunities—whether it be community based or research based—that it just ends up being up to you to decide what you want to spend your time pursuing. I also haven’t interviewed at any school that has such a strong presence within their state. Pretty much any community you go to in WA has UW run clinics and a huge network of UW physicians. If you have been/end up getting admitted definitely consider second look to get a picture of the school!

You wrap up how I felt about the school perfectly... but yeah I'm OOR and only have 1 connection at UW/Seattle. Maybe I'll see some of you at second look 🙂

I live just down the street from UWMC, you’ll see me there! UW is known for having an interview day like this, but don’t let that interfere with everything else you read up on about the school that made you want to apply. It really is a powerhouse in the medical community, and every UW physician I work with blows me away on a daily basis. Happy to answer any questions you have about UW/living in Seattle.
