You have to accept the offer within a certain time frame. if you are instate, you decide which admission you want to keep mid january.

No, waitlist gets created well after match day (Feb 3). Interviews are real interviews for real spots.

I interviewed on the same date as you and also received the $45,000/yr scholarship on Wednesday !!! I just made a SDN account to share the news lol. I totally DID NOT expect any scholarship whatsoever. Honestly I'm still in disbelief! I really wonder what made them choose us out of the hundreds of AMAZING candidates they receive... Anyways, congratulations!!! We probably caught a glimpse of each other on interview day lol but I look forward to being classmates next year!

There are usually no defined summer breaks after the first one. You have 2 weeks summer 2 weeks winter at most schools.

We start rotations in January of MS2. Technically there are no breaks between April and December but you'll have some lighter rotations (ex. psychiatry, ambulatory, scholarly activity) interspersed with more difficult ones. I haven't really thought about it as not having any breaks tbh.

Yes, we have a six-week Step 1 preparation period. We take it during the spring of MS2. There are 4 six-week blocks and you rank them along with your clerkship order preferences during the fall of MS2. A quarter of the class takes it in mid-February, another quarter in late March, another quarter mid-May, and the last quarter in late June. So some people will go directly from pre-clerkship to Step studying, some will do 3 months of research first, some will do a clerkship or 2...

Were the scholarships because of need (FAFSA) or merit? Know a student who got full ride to Vanderbilt despite both parents being vascular surgeons. Heard most med school scholarships are based on merit.

Yes, we have a six-week Step 1 preparation period. We take it during the spring of MS2. Yeah 6 weeks is kind of the standard length. Honestly more than that and you go crazy lol, it's definitely enough time. I don't think people at San Antonio for example really study 4 months for Step.

As for Step preparation in the curriculum, there are another 2 weeks of dedicated time near the end of the preclerkship period that is off to prepare for a mock Step the school gives you (this is new for the class below me, so I don't have personal experience with this).

If it may hurt my chances at all, I will go. I will have driven 10 hours the day before and am avoiding a really long Friday.

For my day a lot of people were not there the whole day. Some people had classes in the morning or drove up in the morning so they didn't attend the morning session and came just for the afternoon one. I don't think it would hurt your chances because not being able to attend socials at other schools don't hurt your chances of getting in!

It is ok to miss socials. But if you are in town and they have a dinner where you can take someone with you, it is a nice event of some significance, not same as a social.

If you think attending will detract from your ability to perform well at your interview on Saturday then skip it. It’s optional and they made the ability to sign up for different parts for a reason.

To those who attended clinical rounds, did you wear a suit? Somewhere on the interview stuff it says "no khaki slacks" and "suit jacket not required, but recommended". What I'm gathering from that is to wear a suit, but also the afternoon program is supposed to be business casual/casual dress. So I'm thinking wear a suit to rounds and maybe leave the jacket in my car for the afternoon program.

During my interview, every guy, except for one, had a full suit on during rounds. During the afternoon session, every guy, except for the handful that didn’t attend the rounds, had a full suit on.

You really aren’t given time to go back to your car. You go to lunch after the rounds. From there, you are guided to the north campus for the afternoon session, which includes boarding a shuttle. You could go back to your car at that time , but then you’ll have to find out how to get to the north campus on your own, then look for the building, then figure where the auditorium everyone is already in.
