Yea, I got the delay email on the Friday before labor day then a II on that following Tuesday so I don't think they looked at it again over the holiday weekend!
 
Has anyone not attended the info session/panel before their interview? How much of an issue would this be? I have taken the day of my interview off but taking more time off for just ~1.5 hour chunks would be tricky and all of their times are during the workday 🙁

I would highly recommend trying to do it. Dean Goodell provides a lot of excellent information that can help a lot for the interview
 
Got that pre-II R earlier, LM 75 complete 9/11. At least it hurts a little less after seeing more qualified applicants get rejected as well lol.

Did you get the delay email before rejection? I have been waiting for II or R. Complete on 8/1
 
R a couple days ago, complete 9/2. Man they bring down that axe fast. Guess they know exactly the type of applicant they’re looking for. Good luck to everyone still in the running!
 
Has anyone had an issue receiving their exact interview time slot? I received an MD-PhD II on 9/22 and scheduled my interview for 10/8, but still haven't received an email confirming a time of day. My portal says I've scheduled my interview for 10/8, so I'm not sure if they just haven't sent out the time slots yet... I've emailed and called the admissions office without an answer. Probably going to call again on Monday if this doesn't seem like a common problem. :/

I received a confirmation email right after I chose the date on the portal with the time, like within an hour or so. I'm guessing the times depend on interviewer availability. Hopefully when they send you the Zoom link it has a time?
 
So it doesnt look like anyone who got the delay email got a rejection... are we thinking it's a sign of an II?

People who got the delay did get Rs further back in the forum. It had been decided that delay emails didn't really show anything. I think the correlation between the email and decisions is just that--a correlation, which very well may be affected by reporting bias

The signs point to the delay email being a good indicator. Just because there isn't a 100% match does not mean it's useless. If the chances that you get an II given the delay email is 70% vs the chances you get an II without a delay email is 5% (so far most people who've gotten a rejection have not gotten a delay email), that's a huge correlation.

Keep in mind the bias that people who get any email are more likely to report having gotten an email on this thread, whereas people who get rejected are less likely to share that. Basically, don't worry about whether or not a delay email is correlated with getting an interview. Just hold tight and enjoy your life while you can (imo)

That makes sense. I had been going off of what I had been thinking at that previous spot in the forum instead of accounting for the new data from the past couple days, also because if the delay email doesn't mean anything, then we don't need to stress over it which is nice haha but you're right--it's a relatively significant sign

Edit: There's a Reddit poll with some more data that suggests no correlation:

That's interesting, I wonder what the updated figure will look like now (i.e. what do the 'Delay email then Nothing since' have).
 
Personally I have gotten no correspondence. Was complete 9/8 and have received no delay email or rejection. Seems like people on or after my date have already got the R, so I guess I am waiting.

I really don't think their emails mean anything. Their portal is a little outdated compared to some of the new ones so who knows how their system operates. I think if I have learned anything, its that trying to guess hidden meanings in emails and the thoughts of admission counselors will drive you crazy - you just have to wait and see and there is nothing you can really do about it anyways.

Well it breaks the theory that a delay email always results in an II, but one data point will only be added to the theory that a delay email increases your probability of an II.

That's honestly preposterous. Occam's Razor dictates the delay email is literally just a delay email. Dean Goodell specifically called out SDN a few days ago in a session for being ridiculously neurotic. They're just tryna be nice in telling people hey sorry it's been X weeks since you submitted. We'll get to you!

I was asked to interview the same week, but because I had other commitments, I asked to reschedule the following week.

I'm doing my best not to be neurotic but unfortunately this BU message is the only correspondence I've gotten from an MD school this cycle, so I continue to ponder the mystery... But I will say, given that I've seen a lot of people with higher stats than me and a later completion date get rejected, I think there's a good chance I passed some initial level of screening and am continuing to be weighed against other applicants. Definitely doesn't mean I'll get an II

I will just add that Dr. Gooddell told us in the info session that completion date and II/reject dates don't matter as much. Usually they go chronologically, but apps are sent to a bunch of adcoms, and some adcoms may be taking more time to review apps (or may be on vacation).

My theory is that IIs go out either in waves or as people cancel / some other last minute change. I feel like same week invites must be a result of some last minute thing, as opposed to something more planned in advance like a II wave

This is most likely correct. I was invited to interview a while ago and the dates available to me were also this week Wed and Fri. Most likely spots opened up and they want to fill them in last minute

I wonder where this group of last minute IIs would come from. Maybe if there was a waitlist of sorts of candidates that were already reviewed and did not get an II at the time but also did not get an immediate R.

But maybe I'm being neurotic. Still, it's much easier to be neurotic when you don't have an II than when you do.

Most likely they were next in line for the following wave of IIs and were simply contacted first. I'd imagine if there was a list of candidates on hold, they'd be rereviewed after all candidates who immediately qualified for an II have been invited already

Do you think I could talk about sailing here? I spent most of my childhood doing it, worked at a marina bc i like boats lol and then taught foreign exchange students to sail during college. I don't know if the experience is considered advanced training though??

My other contenders were my masters thesis, or the fact that I've been a semi-professional musician for 10+ years but I mentioned those on my primary.

Complete early August but no R yet. Have they gotten to early August completes yet?

Edit: oops, I should've scrolled up a bit. Looks like they're reviewing both August and September completes right now

Seems they've sent out a lot of Rs from august/september but II from only early august complete...
