2020-2021 Mayo Clinic (Alix), Arizona

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I also have a few connections at the AZ campus and some students I know had MCATs as low as a 508. I think that even though Mayo places an emphasis on stats, they also play a huge emphasis on extracurriculars, essays, secondary responses, and fit. So there is definitely hope for people with lower stats who want to go AZ or MN !
Very very interesting. I only talked to 5-10 students there, but everyone kept talking about 520+. I'm definitely glad to see that isn't entirely the case.

Stats for AZ are essentially identical to stats for MN.

This would be my guess, as well. Although there is an MCAT as low as 508 as mentioned above, this isn't surprising. That is the number Mayo screens at. If they're truly committed to holistic review, it would track that they would matriculate a 508 MCAT scorer. Also, there is a new youtuber with a 511 MCAT that started at Mayo MN this year and a 525 MCAT youtuber that started at Mayo AZ this year. I would suspect that @Smash Williams is right and that the stats are probably similar.

I spoke to a student at Mayo who indicated that they use half-blind interviews. This means that 1 interviewer knows your stats and the other does not. This would help contribute to a holistic screening process.
Only at the interview stage. The file still ultimately goes to a committee that sees everything before an actual decision is made! Of course, the mere fact that someone with a 508 is enrolled while hundreds with 520+ are rejected each year supports a conclusion that admissions is indeed holistic.

Any Mayo students that can comment on what you can do with selectives while visiting other campuses? I would be interested in visiting jax campus since im from FL but im not actually overly interested in the 2+2.
You can normally do selectives on other campuses, but with COVID they stopped that for now. Once the pandemic is over they should reinstate that. And they usually provide some funding for that, covering maybe enough for your flight and some other expenses. But if you wanted to fund your own selectives and go to Rochester or FLA every chance you get that is certainly possible.

Mayo does screen for secondaries. You won't get one unless you are at the 75th percentile above with your overall MCAT score.

The AZ campus is in Scottsdale, but also does rotations throughout Phoenix (of which Scottsdale is in the metro area of). I'd refer to it as Scottsdale or AZ.
The first 2 years are on Scottsdale, latter half of training is at the hospital in Phoenix and around the Valley with maybe a couple weeks of the entire M3 at Scottsdale clinic

I totally agreed with this. It was a lot more difficult than I expected. Most schools have pages for student life with additional pages about student orgs, etc., but theirs was very bare bones, basically just mentioning academic support/mentorship. There was also little to no information about community involvement -- even schools I applied to that don't focus on community engagement had at least some information. I could've even find a list of some selectives that people have done...
If you have specific questions let me know.

II just now for the Minnesota campus! LM 80. Complete 7/23.

hopefully they don't send As to everyone again this year lol

Congratulations! Did you designate Minnesota or Arizona as your top choice?

Thanks! I ranked in this order:

1. Minnesota 4 year track
2. MN/FL 2+2
3. AZ/FL 2+2
4. Arizona 4 year track

Thanks for sharing. Also, I'm not sure if you're aware, but this is the Mayo Clinic Arizona thread in case you were looking to post the initial news in the Minnesota thread. Any Mayo news is great though!

Anyone know if Mayo has sent Rs yet? Complete 8/11 and haven't heard anything. I applied for the 4 year AZ track.

does anyone know if mayo's interviews are open or closed file? i remember seeing somewhere that it was open (except for mcat and gpa) but now I cant find that info anymore

I know at least one of the two is open as I clearly remember them asking about specific things from my fille.

I have a quick questions for you all. I am an Arizona resident and applied to all Arizona schools excpet for Mayo with the idea that my MCAT was lower than their accepted (510 with a 121 CARS score) LM of 71. However, I have significant clinical experiences (2500 hours of paid emergency room scribing), volunteering, and research. After reading all the posts about Mayo accepting lower MCAT scores, I am interested in sending in an app for the Mayo clinic arizona campus as my primary choice. Do you guys think its to late to submit one? Thank you all and I hope you are all continuing to stay safe and healthy during these times!

If you can afford the application fee, then I say go for it! There is no reason not to try and it sounds like you have a lot of connections to the state and great ECs that make you a great candidate. They send out interview invites through November. So even though it is late, they will likely get to your application with plenty of time to review it. Best of luck!

Someone posted that they review in order of descending mcat scores? Can someone confirm this?

Also does mayo send straight rejections or does everyone get put on hold first?
