Is Mayo Arizona less prestigious than Mayo Minnesota? Or do they both have the same admissions process and national ranking?

I am totally willing to be corrected on this. But from my understanding, the hospitals have distinct rankings, Mayo MN being #1 and Mayo AZ ~#11, but the actual medical schools are identical on paper (both simply called Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, unified admissions process) and there are no separate rankings. Honestly it's really impossible to know how it'll work for residency since Mayo AZ is just graduating their first class this academic year. But Mayo is Mayo- the prestige factor is there regardless of what campus you are on.

thank you so much!! 🙂

Interviewing tomorrow and haven't really heard from anyone about interviews this year. I know it's just two one-on-one interviews, but does anyone have any feedback for this year?

also interviewing soon-ish, earlier in this thread it was said that interviews are mostly conversational with some behavioral q's mixed in, but if anyone has more details i would also love to know! did everyone interview with one faculty member and one current student?

I interviewed with one faculty member and a fourth year student. My interviews didn't feel very conversational and I also don't remember getting behavioral questions, but I think it depends a lot on which interviewers you get!

Just wanted to caveat on this, I just finished the student Q and A. They all said it's just really important to be genuine and know why you want to go to Mayo, but that the Mayo interviews are some of the least stressful compared to many other schools.

For sure, this is what I heard in the student Q&A too! I personally felt that my interview (mostly the faculty one) was a bit more stressful than at some other schools, but again I think it's really dependent on who your interviewer is. Definitely important to just relax, be yourself, and do your best 🙂

I came here for an update too! Just finished the interview today and I know not a ton of people have commented about it.

The welcome session is 3 hours, it was very cool and we got to know the school and some of the students, it was basically identical to welcome sessions at every other school I've interviewed at.

I then had two 30 minute interviews, one with faculty one with a current MS4. Both were awesome and pretty laid back. I know everyone says most interviews are conversational but these ones really were. They asked me a lot about who I was and things on my application they liked and pretty generic questions about how I see myself practicing as a physician and other questions like that.

There were also some MUCH harder questions about behavior and ethics that I didn't see coming and caught me by surprise, but still weren't THAT bad compared to like MMI sessions and other things like that.

Overall, I've interviewed at 3 schools so far and I definitely think my interviews at Mayo were the best in terms of ease and comfort and how I feel about them. I definitely recommend going to the student Q & A, I got lots of info about it.

Just got the R 🙁 Submitted 8/1, and was never put on a hold

"Thank you for applying to our school and the time you have invested in this process. Although we were impressed with your background and experiences, we have decided to pursue other applicants at this time.

We wish you well in your future pursuits and much success in your medical career."

+1 a very abrupt email lol ah well. GL to everyone waiting!

Did you guys email your interviewers or just upload the thank you notes to the portal? I'm worried they won't see the notes if I don't also send them an email to let them know it's there?

Hey all! I interviewed 10/15 and just got around to submitting FAFSA. I think I remember them saying to reach out to their financial aid office after it is submitted, but upon revisiting screenshots, I only see them asking us to reach out if we have questions. Do any of you remember them saying anything about this?

I was actually just wondering this. I think I'm going to upload mine but then send an email in to see if there's a better way to make sure they get it.

Also, when should we send in LOIs? Is it too early?

Did they ever upload the welcome session PowerPoint to the portal? I remember the dean mentioning they would

I emailed and they said only to upload it through the portal.
Welp... I had already emailed my interviewers with thank you notes. Would it be important to also upload them to the portal? I already uploaded a general thank you to the admissions office to the portal (for the swag items, presentations, etc.).

I think it's a good idea to also upload those thank you notes to your portal. Their instructions in the secondary application portal do specify uploading thank you notes and other documents directly there -- it can't hurt!

II last week and interviewing next week! how was the interview experience?

Don't stress it, it was really laid back. I wrote a longer post about it a couple pages back, but if you've interviewed anywhere else it will seem very relaxed compared to the other interviews.

Interviews weren't too stressful. I had one faculty member and one member of the admissions committee (not a student). One interviewer asked situational questions. Everyone I interacted with was super nice and tried to make me feel comfortable.

Anyone on hold get an interview? And how likely is it that we can get a interview from being placed on hold?

Are most people deciding to send a letter of intent before the committee makes a decision or only if you’re put on the waitlist?

I interviewed in November, and am submitting my LOI as well as some professional updates to my app this week. Hoping to let committee know I am ranking them #1 prior to them making a final decision 🙂 I've heard it's a good idea to submit a LOI a few weeks following an interview, but not 100% sure.

Should we send in our transcripts as a post-II update?

Also wondering this. Anyone know how long Mayo's interview cycle goes?
Decisions are released in February and they indicated that all interviews are completed before any decisions are released. I’m guessing that COVID won’t really change this but who knows

Just had my Mayo interview. Very low stress - know your app and be prepared for "tell me about a time..." questions.

Has anyone from the 11/18 Monday session receive an email saying they were scored yet?
