Soooooo while we're waiting 🕰️...

Anybody start any new hobbies during COVID? (TikTok counts as a hobby)
I’ve been learning to cook things that aren’t PB&J. Also attempting to figure out if I’m a zillenial or a straight-up millennial based on TikTok research. Thinking of writing a paper lol

TikTok makes me feel so old 🦖

my new hobby is studying for an MCAT retake since umn won’t tell me if they let me in or not

That’s a great new hobby! Lol, I am doing the same. FYI everyone, Dimple informed us at an info session for BIPOC folks last week that the MCAT will be reintroduced for 2021-2022 app cycle. She didn’t say why, but just that it’ll be factored into the screening process. Idk if the 499 minimum score would still be a requirement since she didn’t mention it. So, it’d be a great idea to start preparing for the MCAT now and and retake it in May/June, if needed. Also, there are still interviews and acceptances to be handed out since the review process started later this year.

Ugggh what on earth is UMN doing? Lol im all for being patient and everything but this is getting a tad ridiculous and kinda looks bad on their part 😅😭
It makes me wonder how I’m gonna do waiting to hear about residency interviews and matching lol.
Edit: the answer is not well 🙃

Decision timeline post-holiday season:

I wish they released every week instead of every other 😕

epic, thank you!

SAME!!! They seriously need to start if theyre gonna give out decisions to everyone...
Someone else I know who interviewed at UMN said they meet twice a month to discuss applicants and A/WL/R. Based on what I am seeing, they tend to meet in the beginning of the month and the middle to give decisions (assuming decisions are given out to candidates within a few days of having been made). Therefore next meeting should be beginning of March with decisions coming by the end of the week.

This is all speculation based on hearsay, so please don't crucify me if I am wrong - just trying to see a pattern based on a very limited sample of three days so far this year.

Per an email that student ambassadors received on Feb 19:

  • UMN-TC started interviewing one month later than we usually do, and we currently plan to interview through the end of March. We will add interview dates as needed to accommodate the interview invitations the Admissions Committee approves. However, we still have interview spots to fill in our remaining March dates. We estimate we will interview at least 800 people this season.

Thank you! Do you know how many applicants have been interviewed thus far?

No.
Here is all the info I was given:

Application season facts shared with applicants:

  • We received an application increase of over 50% this year compared to last year's numbers. Nationally, the average number of applications are up 20%. This has impacted our review timeline, especially since we use physicians to review application materials. When the season began, we initially estimated we would have all interview decisions out by February 15th. However, in January we emailed all candidates waiting for the first review that we could not meet this deadline and will continue to review.

We will add interview dates as needed to accommodate the interview invitations the Admissions Committee approves. However, we still have interview spots to fill in our remaining March dates. We estimate we will interview at least 800 people this season.
  • We have decided to offer roughly 200 offers of acceptances in our initial round of offering (which we are in now). We still have seats left to offer in this initial round! After 200-ish, we will pause until the number of withdrawals puts us below 165. We don't anticipate we will have that many withdrawals before April 30th, which is the day applicants with multiple offers in hand need to commit to one school. However, should we receive 60+ withdraws before that time, we could start offering off the waitlist earlier than that. People on the waitlist will either be dismissed from the waitlist in April or emailed with their rank and related information in the first week of May.
  • All candidates with interview dates from this week and onward were emailed recently that they were likely interviewing for a spot on the waitlist. All candidates invited for future dates will receive the same messaging in their invitations. We disclosed this information to candidates so they could make an informed choice to keep their interview spot, or withdraw so another candidate could move forward.
  • We usually go 30-70 deep into our ranked waitlist and will make most waitlist offers May-July. But again - this year isn't normal! We do not feel comfortable estimating what will happen to the ranked waitlist as we cannot see if our accepted candidates have multiple offers (which is different to how MS2-MS4s experienced their application seasons), and the AAMC tells us that the average number of completed applications per person is also higher than ususal.

i interviewed feb 18th and this info was basically what they told us; we're likely interviewing for WL BUT there are still A's to be given out. waitlist movement will begin april/may and offers can go all the way up to the first day of orientation.

Hi all, interviewed Jan 26 and just received a rejection. Really confused as to why I heard back so early but ah well. Has anyone from 26 heard?
Omg im so sorry to hear that 🙁 im really confused too because its only like week 5 for you.. sorry it wasnt better news tho 🙁 what time did u receive the email?

Anyone from 12/11 hear?
was 12/11 an actual interview date? (sorry just trying to keep track for my own sake...im not trying to be petty and correct you...i actually just want to know how many dates are ahead of me haha)

Any 12/10 interviewees hear back? Looks like they are only giving decisions every other Monday, but perhaps that will change as interviews end?
