2020-2021 Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine (Provo, UT) Noorda-COM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hello everyone! I'm new to SDN and was looking for some guidance from others who have already submitted their secondary application video for Noorda! I watched the sample videos they uploaded but am still quite nervous. Is there anyone who would be willing to share some details about their video - i.e., Did you dress in a suit? Did you cut and edit your video? Does your video have graphics? Did you change locations in your video? How long is your video in length? I know this is personal and I may be asking too much, but anything you are open to sharing, I would greatly appreciate. Thank you in advance & good luck to all!

Totally agree with the others on being authentic. I personally just had fun with this. I think that's one of the most brilliant things about Noorda-COM's secondary approach is that it gives you a platform to show the admissions committee who you are much more than you could through writing essays. I used graphics, recorded in various locations, and had a combination of both professional and casual attire throughout. But that's just because it's more who I am! I think the most important thing is to answer the questions sufficiently, be yourself, and have fun with this! Good luck with it, you've got this!

Secondary submitted just now! Really hope to find out if I got an II before the 3-4 week prompt...

NOORDA was awesome when I emailed them inquiring on secondaries. They won’t give out info but are beyond pleasant and accommodating. I think this is going to be a standout program.

What was awesome about your experience? What did they inform you? I honestly think this place is incredible and I cannot wait to hear back on my secondary.

Hi @Noorda-COM Admissions, could you tell us if the interview is going to be an open file or closed file? And the overall format if it is a panel interview or 1 on1? Thank you!

Great question! Interviewers will only have access to applicants' secondary application videos and personal statement essays. Interviews will be 1 on 1 with faculty. Some interviews will have 2 faculty members (we have some faculty members who have never done applicant interviews before), some will have 1 faculty member and 1 community/board member.

For me it was being upfront, honest, and pleasant. I never felt like I was “annoying” then. I mentioned my family being a consideration and not wanting to surprise them with anything. They understood that. It didn’t change their answer but simply acknowledging that means a lot to me as a non-trad. This game is geared for people without families.

I’ve also got a family of my own! We can do this!

For those who submitted their secondary after 11/2, any news on interviews? I'm hoping for some good news this week!

I received a secondary with a 2.6 cGPA and a 2.9 sGPA

506 MCAT with a 127-123-129-127

I declined the secondary though. Good luck everyone.

Interview invite too. My First one! Apparently only time in December is available.

I wanted to inquire if anyone knows how long it takes after the interview to get a decision. When the class will be full/waitlist started?

When did you submit your secondary? I submitted by secondary 11/13

I too received an II today and am beyond ecstatic. I submitted the video on 10/30 and for a while thought that I was going to get the R. It looks like the 1st wave of interviews are all in the month of December. My best guess as to when we will hear back is probably January or February 2021 (to account for the holidays).

Best of luck in your interview prep. I'm definitely gonna be ironing my suit, cleaning my place, and answering practice questions 🙂

The last page of the interview prep packet they sent says this about acceptances.

• We cannot make any offers of acceptance to applicants until we are granted pre-accreditation
status, which we hope to obtain by the end of the year.
•Thank you for your patience while we wait for this decision from the Commission on
Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).

As far as I’ve heard, that next step is supposed to happen in December. So hopefully they get it and can send out some New Year’s Day Acceptances!

Happy Thursday!
Tomorrow is Faculty Friday and we are talking with Dr. Jay Danto and Dr. M'Lindsey Romero about OMM Curriculum, Labs, and Research! I'm very excited for them to share their vision for the OPP department at Noorda-COM and how it will prepare our students to be great osteopathic physicians.
We would love to see you all there. Register here or check us out live on Facebook. If you have questions you would like addressed in the session, please send them to [email protected].
No Faculty Friday next week as our faculty will be safely celebrating Thanksgiving.
We hope to see you online tomorrow. Stay healthy and safe!

Also, I was curious about the accreditation concept - I read that they can't hand out acceptances but they are allowed to interview people, so what happens if the accreditation doesn't go through? With secondary app fees and secondary videos?

Great question that I wish I understood or knew the best answer to, so before you keep reading know that your questions are going to be best answered by emailing their admissions office! Secondary fees are non-refundable as far as I know to pretty much everywhere. I think they received approval to recruit with the expectation they would meet accreditation standards because of what they had shown and prepared so far. I’m not exactly sure what would happen if they didn’t meet the next accreditation step except they wouldn’t be able to accept students until they were met.

Some people say applying to this school is risky because they don’t have accreditation, but go on their FB page and watch the video where Dr. Dougherty is speaking and he talks about it. I personally believe they will receive accreditation based on their faculty recruitment, planning, and exceptional leadership.

Finally, be yourself for your secondary! They’ve read through your application and want to get to know you more, so be you! Congrats!

that's good info - I def check out the Facebook page for more info. It might be a new school but it looks really promising and that's something I'm really interested in as an applicant so why not. I assume if they are allowed to interview students, then they are probably on track for being accredited too.

for the video, open-ended, do you think admissions would frown upon a watermark in the corner? I edit a ton of videos for my job and my blog, but I don't have the funds for the pro version lol sooo what do you all think?

I don't see how that would be a problem.

Does anyone know roughly how long after secondary submission people have received interview invites (if selected)?

I turned my secondary in on the 5th and received an II on the 17th. It just depends on how many secondary apps they’ve sent out as they have to watch each secondary video and I don’t think we know how many people have to watch your video and evaluate it.

okay! I wouldn't want them to see me as unprofessional or anything
iMovie is free if you have iOS. It’s easy to splice video together and amplify sound if you spoke a little too quietly, but I haven’t ever played with crazy editing on it. You’ll do great on it though! Good luck!

Secondary submitted 11/10 (okay, really late the night of 11/9)

interview invite received 11/18

Just submitted my secondary!! I am hopeful for an interview, NOORDA has really become my dream school over the past few months!

Is anyone here interviewing on December 2nd or 3rd? Had a quick question for you.

Just submitted. Hopefully my newbie splicing/editing skills doesn't ruin my chances haha. Anyone who's done the secondary and received an II, did you have any reservations about the video and were you professional yet light hearted? What was the general vibe ? 🙂 Thank you! Hope I hear good news in the news 7-9 days!

I was pretty professional in mine but acted like myself and answered the questions honestly. I don't have any editing skills and still got a II. Good luck!

Withdrew my interview, hoping it goes to one of you guys. Best of luck everyone!

Submitted my secondary 11/10, hopefully I'll get something from them soon, pretty excited to see what they have to offer after seeing their informational sessions.
