+1 -- does anyone know what waitlist movement is like for OOS?
Found this on AAMC MSAR Penn State:

ā€œTypical number of waitlist positions per cycle: 70

Number of acceptance offers granted to applicants on the waitlist: 25

Waitlist procedures and information: Students on the wait list are frequently reviewed with the potential of being accepted into the entering class. A significant number of applicants from the wait list are accepted each cycle.ā€

Edit: Not sure how in-state applicants compare to OOS in this regard.

Thanks so much for this info! Totally missed that on MSAR

Pre-II hold. Congrats to everyone with the A and good luck to all those still with a shot!

What would you like to know? Student from the UP-track here but know a decent amount about the Hershey program as well.

Do you feel like you’re missing out of the Hershey experience?
Interested in UP but a little hesitant

Can you provide pros and cons please about UP curriculum?
And anything you’ve heard for Hershey curriculum?

Has anyone's FAFSA been checked off as received on their portal?
So I had contacted them about this because mine hadn't. They told me that the portal actually has to be checked off by someone physically, and they aren't doing that quite yet. They were able to confirm for me that it was received though, so if you are worried, you can contact their financial aid office!

Decided to check on my status today. Still "application ready" on the main status page. Navigate over to "communication status" and I have an Interview Denied message waiting from 12/15. Never got an email. Anybody else get a stealth R?

In regards to "missing out" on Hershey- not really! A lot of us still do a lot of research with Hershey professors and with a huge movement towards zoom events, it's been super easy to stay involved with Hershey clubs and such. We also have a TON of clubs here at University Park and it is so easy to make your own club. Lots of opportunities for club leadership here at UP.

A pro of the UP curriculum is that it just is a smaller community so you get a lot more direct guidance and work one-on-one with our attendings here. It is based at a community hospital which has pros and cons as well. With it being a community hospital, you aren't competing with a ton of other medical students/residents/fellows for experiences. You can have some more autonomy over your schedule/patients. It has been a great place to learn bread and butter medicine because most patients receive care at community hospitals. Being based in State College also has some pros in that we have access to all the research/facilities of Penn State main campus.

That said, we have many opportunities to go to Hershey to get that feel for big academic medicine as well. During your second year (which is rotations), you spend time in Hershey getting more exposure to peds and psych. MS4 year here is also almost identical to Hershey students. You can do any elective/rotation at UP or Hershey. All of us will be spending time doing some rotations in Hershey.

You are not restricted to what specialties you can do at either campus since you will have plenty of exposure in State College as well as during your rotations at Hershey 2nd-4th year. You also graduate with the same diploma as part of the same class with Hershey since we are one campus just a different track.

Also, the way admissions works for UP, you need to be accepted to the Hershey campus to even qualify for an interview for UP. Then, if you get accepted to UP as well, you have full choice about which program you want to attend. You are not locked into one or the other simply by interviewing. If you are interested in getting to know more about the program you can email Kristen Horn our student services manager ([email protected]) or RSVP to our zoom info sessions thorugh this spring here: University Park Preview Day - Take A Closer Look - Penn State College of Medicine

Are there specific questions that you have about the Hershey program?

Interview invitation received today! Really late i wasn't expecting anything at this point. Have to do VITA before scheduling so idk when it is yet
Congrats ! Complete date ?

What interview dates were available? Did you have options?
Feb 25th but were instructed to not sign up until we complete VITA and then more dates will appear. Still haven't gotten the VITA email for the interview which is odd

Depends on when they sent you the email for II. I had the same issue with Downstate. They sent on a Thursday-told me to finish in two weeks but didn't get the email from VITA the following week. I would expect the same would happen for you as VITA probably didn't get the "request" in enough time for it to go out for this weeks Thursday emails.

So I received VITA invite today and now my tab says I can register. I have not completed VITA yet though. Do you think I should still register for the interview now (only have 1 time available)?

From what I understand more
Spots open up once VITA is submitted? If you have access to VITA I would
Do it ASAP so you can get access to
More dates. I believe the VITA submission is fast/immediate to the schools that ask for them.

Can anyone who has completed VITA and has an upcoming interview, verify if they have more than 1 interview date to choose from?

No I called them and they said not to do that. They’ll offer more times once you finish VITA
