Is this school still giving out interviews? I have been complete since 8/28 and have not heard anything

My Rocket ID number is not listed on the application portal. Does it take a few days for them to assign you a number or should I email them? I accepted the offer on Saturday.
It should be the last bullet point under "admissions decisions" -> "resources"

Does anyone know for clinical rotations what portion of students end up with honors?
It varies A LOT rotation to rotation and year by year. Like in psych, it may be top 18%, but for obgyn in the past year it could be top 35%. But the average would be somewhere in the top 20-30%tile. That's why the common advise for clinical students is to really learn the cut offs for honors and how to get honors in each specific rotation, as opposed to a general "make sure you're performing well relative to the average medical student" (which is good advice btw, just not the best as it is vague).

I'm also assuming this is mostly the same at other schools too. And with step 1 p/f in the mix who knows they might optimize it more for your year.

I’m waitlisted but still got the email about the ToledoMed Highlights. I feel like it’d only be reserved for accepted students but maybe not.

Nah, I interviewed but a decision hasn't been made yet, got the link as well. Not a whole lot of new info, but still interesting to see.

is there anyone specific I can email/call for an application update? (other than medadmissions). I really want to attend this school and am still waiting on an interview

In the thread a few pages back someone said the Interview options were 5/3 5/4 and 5/11. They may or may not have filled the dates at this point. There could also be cancellations that potentially give the II to another if they choose so.

I’m wondering if this cycle is more competitive post ii. Last year I think the post ii acceptance was about 70% instate. In the recent email they mentioned that Toledo is doing 450 iis for 175 seats. What do you all think? I’m still waiting on a decision post ii (late March ii) and I’m anxious lol.

They haven't been sending out acceptances on Fridays right? I interviewed late March as well and figured we'd hear back this week, but it seems like it might take closer to 6 weeks for a decision.

In order to get 175 committed students they probably need to accept about 350 🙂

(+ the groupme is currently only 75 people)

Total applications were up ~36% this year, and interviews increased by 18%. Because interviews cost nothing to attend this year, people are interviewing at places they otherwise wouldn't, so in order to fill a class the interview numbers have to go up.

I only had a few interviews but at most of them, the schools explicitly said they were aware of the differences this year and they'd done the math to compensate - I'm assuming Toledo did some calculating as well. Obviously we can't know anything for sure until it's all over and done, but I wouldn't expect the post-II acceptance rate to change too much.

Hey, I haven’t considered interviews are increasing for this reason. My opinion is because admissions committees are already very busy during the cycle, it would be difficult to interview more candidates. I know they could recruit more interviewers and each day have slightly more attendees but overall I am thinking that it wouldn’t amount to too much unless they interviewed later and added more days, which I haven’t seen compared to other cycles. I could be wrong.

I was assuming that there would be more waitlist movement in this cycle. There typically is a lot more people on the waitlist when it expires, so instead of interviewing more wouldn’t it be easier to take off the waitlist? That’s why I think it is a higher chance of getting off the waitlist this cycle as those who have their one acceptance after today didn’t have to attend on site and or less motivated overall to go? If that makes sense because this is the reason a waitlist exists?

I do agree that we'll probably see more waitlist movement this year than other years! But, remember, the people on the waitlist are also more likely to have other As, be on more waitlists, etc. this year. So schools will probably go deeper into the waitlist, but they also want to make sure they have a pool of candidates they can actually pull from. Worst-case scenario would be doing everything as normal, then going through the waitlist and still not getting enough to fill a class. Which is unlikely, but this year is weird. If I were a school, I'd want to hedge my bets.

Maybe try writing Ms. Akeman instead of the general med admissions email. I've noticed that when I cc her on things to the main org box I'll get a response directly from her but I've never gotten a response from the general [email protected] address.

I’ll try that. Thanks! Honestly, I’m fortunate to have multiple acceptances already, and the lack of professionalism and commitment to their deadlines has me putting UToledo in a very bad light. There’s a lot to like about the school, but if this is how they treat their applicants, I don’t know what it’d be like as a student.

No yeah, I totally get that sentiment. When I applied last year I waited ~16 weeks for a response and I also had multiple acceptances as well. Definitely left a bad taste on my mouth when comparing Toledo to other schools.

But speaking as a student now, it's not the vibe I get at all from the faculty leaders. There's been a lot of push from both the student side and faculty side for communication and listening to student responses (especially with the upcoming step 1 pass/fail mess). There's the new clinical curriculum revamp in response to step 1 p/f, the MSC's great at fostering discussion and communication, and new ideas suggested by students are constantly added year by year. I don't necessarily feel neglected and I do annoy the faculty leaders quite a lot with questions, complaints, or recommendations.

I don't necessarily mind where random people on sdn eventually go to, but I just feel like this added perspective might be useful for premeds to make their decisions. It just might be the adcoms that can be improved, but it sure doesn't translate to the rest of the faculty.

Can you comment a little more on the clinical curriculum revamp?
Don't know too much about the details yet. There is a specially made committee that was created a few months back to identify necessary changes to the clinical curriculum, specifically because now there is going to be such a large emphasis on clinical years for residency candidacy purposes. They take feedback from previous classes, look at other schools, and other literature to optimize our clinical years. The committee will present their full recommendations and proposal sometime soon when the M1s come in (August or September), and changes will be made according to this proposal so that by the time you guys have your clinical years, changes to the clinical years will already be optimized.

By the time the incoming M1s come and learn about the full extent of the changes proposed will also be the same time when the current students learn about the changes. So unfortunately that's about all I can say about that.

Been lurking here to make friends but figured I'd post here. From the Southeast MI/Northwest MI area and did medical school at a state US MD school nearby. Will be doing clinical training at UToledo. It was the program that jumped on the most on my rank lists and ranked it above programs closer to my previous training programs and medical school. I think ultimately the organization I witnessed from the residents, fellows, administration, and faculty was one of the draws from the place. I can't speak to what the heck happened with the medical school admissions process this year and don't blame you for your frustration. I will say though that I do not think this is a systemic issue across the medical school or hospital system per se. It seems that UToledo students do not think it is from the ones I have met up with on SDN and in real life. I can not say how many times I hear that administration listens to students when I hear of UToledo. Trust me, if there's something negative, I'd be the first to express my opinion on it. The Promedica affiliation (Partnership Frequently Asked Questions), curriculum, and already solid residency programs at UToledo are all healthy signs that Toledo's planning for the future.

I wrote this a while back piece a while back and think it was referenced in this thread. Please feel free to revisit it this April 30th as you're weighing other offers. Please pick the best place for you!

I don't know whether they're for sure done, but if not, they're likely pretty close to it, unfortunately. 🙁

I figured so I am not too sad about it. Just annoying that it is 2 months short of a year since I applied and still not a word from them. Toledo has been horribly unprofessional this cycle.

Any acceptances or other admission decisions lately?? I feel like it’s been so long since anyone has said anything hard core stressing and upset with all the waiting. Interviewed 3/23
Same, hoping to hear back soon. A close friend who interviewed in April said she heard back this week. Curious as to how they are rolling out acceptances/rejections/waitlists
