2020-2021 Toledo

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
can someone tell me if there's asian food in Toledo? I need to know if I need to bring my ramen supply or not ~if~ invites ever go out

I have started getting groceries delivered from a couple of online grocery stores that specialize in Indian, Japanese, etc. fare. But if memory serves there are a couple of international markets. Not sure about restaurants.

It's concerning. I think the part that's really bugging everyone is the lack of updates/transparency.

I've spent time in the corporate world and stuff like this happens with projects all.the.time. Maybe someone high-up decided that THIS new system was absolutely how they needed to do things, so even though it's not working out, no one has the ability to go over their head and change it. Or maybe everyone wants to change course to something else, but because of the cost already sunk into this, it's not an option. Maybe it's all been ready to go but the one guy who can flip the switch and make it happen is out. Maybe there's something that went wrong with the product and the vendor's jerking them around. It could be any number of things.

Yeah, looking in from the outside, the delay is a little silly considering everyone else managed to work something out already, but I get it. What I really don't get is them not at least sending an email saying, "Hey guys, we've had some stuff come up and it's causing a delay. We're still reviewing applications/have reviewed applications and are waiting for our system to be online/we plan to start sending invites out by DATE." I've gotten emails like this from other schools and appreciated them saying something.

As a prospective student, it also concerns me because I don't know where the hang-up is. Is it Joe from IT who's been there since the '70s and only knows how to program in FORTRAN but insists on writing the whole thing himself? Okay, that's unfortunate, but not likely to impact my day-to-day. Or is it indicative of a greater systemic issue? How bad is the disconnect between students and admin? If we're not even worth a brief update now, how would we be treated as students if an issue were to arise? If this is how the school adapts to something unexpected, what will happen next time something unexpected comes up? etc.

I hope this delay doesn’t put people who were complete a lit bit later in the cycle (me, i.e early October) at a disadvantage.

I’d think if anything the delay works in your favor as I’d imagine they’ve had the time to go through applications and pick through who they want to interview. It’s worse to be late at schools that fill their interview schedule within weeks of receiving apps.

Thanks this makes me feel better

Maybe we should just start interviewing ourselves, and send them the results when we've figured it out?

we hold a zoom night with breakout rooms and icebreakers and show them how easy it could be🙂
lol I led a student interview panel a few days ago and was thrust into a breakout room and was told to do an icebreaker but looked at the interviewees and said, "We're supposed to do an icebreaker but honestly I think they're really stupid and you guys are probably tired of them. If you really wanna we can do one... but it will be stupid. Do you just want to ask me questions to get the low down on what actually goes on at X school?"

tldr: icebreakers should be banned

Aka coolest student interviewer

Toledo somehow managed to revamp their whole website but can't find time to interview anyone lol. They give the following update on said website:

"For the 2020-2021 interview cycle, we will conduct synchronous, virtual Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI). Our on-line MMIs will be from January through May, 2021. If you're invited for an interview, the email we send you will contain additional information including technical requirements and access to the web-based platform."

So that's that.

it's the on-line for me

If toledo doesn't end up sending out II this week, then wouldn't that mean that they're not going to get to sending out those interviews until January? And by then the BEST case scenario is that they end up doing those interviews around end of January?

Maybe they’re waiting for Christmas for a holiday surprise!
But they also may do what some schools are doing and try to get some interviews scheduled a couple days to a week in advance.
