2020-2021 UCLA (Geffen)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sorry if this has been asked previously, but does anyone know if our two interviews are open-file or closed-file? Thanks in advance!
Hi! It should be open-file, but my 2nd interview was rescheduled to a later time due to the faculty availability. And my second one proceeded pretty much like a closed-file, where I was asked a lot of open-ended questions instead of specific things from my application. Just n=1

Hey guys, I’m new here! So is there a timeline on when UCLA will tell people decisions? Is it like weekly or randomly? I interviewed back in October for reference. Hope everyone is safe and healthy!

Anyone that got an A before December 3rd hear back about financial aid or the Geffen? Was told I was still in consideration for it when I got the A and am curious if any decisions have been made? Perhaps they are waiting for our background checks to clear before deciding?

Interviewed 1/11 and they said they would START reviewing for Geffen later this month. Congratulations on the A 🙂

I just sent in an interest letter to UCLA pre-II, submitted my app on 10/30, do you think I'm still in the running or is this a silent R? Does UCLA even do silent R's?

I emailed them to ask if they were still extending invites. I don’t think they are honestly. On their website, invites were only extended through the end of December. The response I got from admissions is they are interviewing until the end of January. I think it’s unlikely we will receive one at this point.

I see, I wonder why they haven't just sent out R's at this point then :\

They don’t have any requirement to. They only really care about the students that they think will potentially go there (they’ve already extend invites to). They can always send out rejections another day. This is true for any school.

They could also be holding off incase a potential interviewee drops their interview for whatever reason in the next week or two.

Someone said that they close your file after you interview, so post-interview updates/letters are useless. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Random question but does anyone know an international student at UCLA that got the Geffen scholarship. I know it says on their website that intl students are considered for the scholarship but I wonder if it’s common/has already happned for internationals to get it.
yes they are! i know a few international students who received the scholarship for our class! everyone who is accepted is considered!

I had my interview in dec...would it be too late to send an update/interest letter?

yes! be optimistic! i interviewed last cycle in September and didn't get my A/scholarship until February! hang tight! they are still thinking about you!! 🙂
Thank you for the encouragement to all of us applying this cycle! Did you submit any update letters/LOI's before you received your acceptance?

Sorry for asking such a dumb question but how do the interviews work? I am really confused. Are there multiple interviews that a person has to give or is it only one interview?

You’ll have two open-file 30 minute interviews.

So my first one that is scheduled on Wednesday, will it be a one on one interview or a different format? Sorry for asking you so many questions.
No need to apologize! I’m glad to help. They’ll both be one-on-one interviews.

Congrats!! That's relieving to hear that they're still sending out II 🙂

I checked my interview invite email, and it said that I have to do the interview through VITA. Is that how the first interview is?

Hi!

Vita is a generic interview, you will be sent the invite on Thursday. Multiple school use it. You are shown prompts and record responses. AAMC Video Interview Tool for Admissions (AAMC VITA™)

UCLA is not involved but they will watch it. UCLA will do 2 1:1 interview with faculty on your interview day

Hello!! So just to clarify, my VITA is today, so will UCLA send my interview invite on Thursday like you said?

VITA is something you do on your own. It isn't scheduled. You need to do it within 2 weeks of the UCLA invite. In your UCLA portal, which day did you schedule your interview?

I apologize for being so confused but I only received an email about the VITA. Is that the only email I am suppose to receive? Also, I do not see anything in my portal regarding date selection.
