What I do find odd is the fact that they ask which foundations site you want, but then have the foundation site essay? Baby, I already told where I want to go, even explicitly saying "Seattle ONLY". I did have one med student tell me that its more for people who decide to switch after their interview, but if you interviewed for Seattle and selected Seattle you will get placed in Seattle, which only makes sense but ya never know.
I don’t think I have been asked to do this foundation site essay and I’m wondering if I may have overlooked it. Does everyone get this? Was this before a secondary or an interview or after an acceptance??

Yeah I definitely don’t recall doing one. And if you interview for a foundation site like Spokane, then you go to Spokane. So I’m not sure what they’re referring to...

I had this essay portion in my acceptance contract too, so it’s not old info! I’m guessing it’s the last chance to find those who are flexible in case they need to rebalance the cohorts? I wasn’t sure but I used it to explain in detail why I chose my site since I didn’t have a chance to discuss that in my interview.

There isn't a deposit correct? - to hold your acceptance.

Well I interviewed for what I thought was Seattle, since that’s what I applied for and even confirmed on interview date. The foundations essay was found on the acceptance contract which was obviously post acceptance.

Hmm okay I’ll have to look at my acceptance contract again. Thanks!

Oh interesting! Yeah I wonder why they would emphasize the foundations selection pre-interview but then have the essay on the acceptance contract

When did you all receive the interview scheduling email? I got an II two weeks ago and haven't heard anything back yet.

My invite said I would get a scheduling email in December
Interesting. All mine said was "You will receive an email approximately 2-3 weeks in advance that will contain information about scheduling your interview and the day’s agenda." Granted, I am OOR so not sure if this makes the process different.

So, anyone holding out hope that they will hold more interviews for Seattle? My application was tied up in residency certification until early last week. Since the last interview slot for Seattle is January 19, and it looks like people have already gotten invites for that date, I'm leaning toward it being over for me this cycle. Curious if anyone is in the same boat?

Definitely not too late, invites should trickle out for that interview week

Is the last interview date really January 19? In my II, it states that the interview dates for Seattle applicants are until February 28.

Hello Everyone,

Have any Alaskan residents heard back about an interview invite? Or, does anyone know when we will hear something?

Thanks in advance!
Hello fellow Alaskan! Waiting to hear back myself. I'm not sure when we're supposed to hear back. I've been complete for 6 weeks or so, so I'm hoping to hear back soon.

Hi Alaskans! Make sure to ask about mock interviews, current students will be offering them!

Hello! I was complete on 10/21 and was given an interview invite on 11/02. So, yes, roughly 6 weeks seems to be the sweet spot. Best of luck!

Oh snap, maybe my prayers were answered? I got that date from the admissions website, but if that's what they told you, it's possible they've extended interview dates in response to COVID delays, etc. Thanks for sharing!

Hi all! New to this thread.

My secondary application was complete on Oct 12.
Interview invitation November 17.
Interview is scheduled for December 17.

Any tips on the questions they ask would be much appreciated!

I am a mid 30s non-traditional student. Already had a career in biomed research and biotech. Applied last year and got a post-secondary rejection, pretty sure it was due to not having recent shadowing experience. Excited to interview this year but this will be my first med school interview ever, so I'm a bit nervous 🙂

edited to add that I'm in the Seattle cohort 🙂

Looking forward to connecting with you all!

Hi all! New to this thread as well. I got an II at UW about 2 weeks ago, and was told I was put in the Spokane cohort (I had selected either location on my secondary). I just got another email yesterday asking if I wanted to switch the Seattle cohort with the possible option of an earlier interview date. The email kind of made it sound like there had been a lot of interest in Spokane and less in Seattle this year. Does anyone have further insight into this?

I like both locations a lot, and was slightly swayed by the higher post-interview acceptance in Spokane.

Spokane has everything going for it. The cost of living is stupidly low, class size is way smaller so the class is much more close knit, less distractions from family etc, no traffic, and we’re still UW so we can do our rotations wherever we want in WWAMI. Sure there’s less access to basic science research (practically none compared to seattle) but at the same time, no one wants to do bench work simply because it’s time consuming and it doesn’t pay out in publications. Also it’s pretty great to go to a school that’s close to home but not so far that I can’t go back whenever.

If you have any specific questions don’t hesitate to fire away. Oh right, shoulda started with this but congrats on the invite

Thank you! This was helpful. I decided to keep my Spokane interview spot!

Hearing this makes me sad that I live 20 minutes away from Spokane but can't apply to the Spokane cohort. Do you know if people are able to get into the Spokane track for clinical years even if they are from other regions?

I’m like 99% sure you can since we can apply for tracks wherever and since you’re stupidly close I’m sure they’ll take that into consideration even if it’s not in the policy. I‘ll ask around tomorrow and get back to you

Hey! I'd love to ask you some questions about the Spokane interview if you have some free time 🙂 I tried to message you privately but couldn't.

-Thanks! 🙂

Does anyone know how to study up health policy for UW? Should I go in depth, or just try to get a vague understanding? Any websites or resources would be greatly appreciated.

I’ll change my privacy settings my bad

edit-just changed it.

I asked and apparently you can but priority is given to Washington residents but you shouldn’t have any problem tracking here since everyone comes from all over. Furthermore the admin is very accommodating so I have no doubt you’d be able to snag a spot here in the future. That and if you went to any other school you’d be automatically resigned to coming back, assuming you do, in 4 years at the very minimum. So no worries lol

Any Seattle interview tips? I feel like things are going to be quite different this round since they're zoom.

hey there! I just finished my interview for the Seattle cohort. I definitely recommend going over your application and secondary as per usual and also be yourself! They really just want to get to know you. Since it is different being on Zoom, it is hard to maintain eye contact for sure. I recommend practicing that by recording yourself while you give your answers and watching yourself, seeing if you are making adequate eye contact.

Additionally, I do have to say that at some points there was background noise from one of the interviewers that slightly distracted me, but I practiced for that by practicing talking to a screen while listening to music (WITH WORDS) in the case of distractions. I know it sounds peculiar but it really helped me with focusing on what I had to say instead of background noise.

I hope that helps!!!

Finally caught the OOR pre-II R last night; mission fit statement complete early September, invitation for secondary received late Sep. and fully complete early October. Was really holding out hope after having the opportunity to submit a secondary. Super sad about this one, since UW is such an amazing school!

Seriously, GOOD LUCK to everyone who is interviewing or waiting for an interview! I am really rooting for you all; you will be great; it will all be okay! 💜

OOR and have an interview next week. Any tips? Their interview page is great but also has a lot of content to review. Just wanting to make sure I focus on the right things 🙂

How long did you all wait after the II for the scheduling email? It's only been 2 weeks so I am not obsessing, but I am curious.

Which cohort are you? I'm seattle. I waited less than two weeks, maybe a week and a half including the Thanksgiving holiday. But I know there aren't anymore interview dates between Dec 17 and something like Jan 18 so they probably won't send out those schedules for a while.
