if you put seattle only, interview at seattle, and then they want you at their spokane campus they will offer you admission only to the spokane campus. per my friend whos former spokane uw student, about a third of their class had this happen to them. they call it getting "wammied"
I think this is important for how you interview and what you say. research the differences and make ur case in ur interview

Also, after you are accepted, you are asked to submit a foundations site essay as to why you would rather be at Seattle or Spokane. This is the space to make your case.
ah alright this person is a resident now i think so 5-7 year old info

Are there any current students in the Spokane cohort that I can DM? 😀
When you’re able to sign up for your interview, they give you access to a portal that includes a list of a bunch of Spokane med students of different years you can email/ topics that you can ask them about. It’s pretty extensive. Not sure if that helps .-.

On another note, as it’s not found here. For the Spokane cohort, the associate dean said during his office hour sessions that they plan to have their EXCOM meeting early next week, accept 15-20 students then, and then put the rest SUC. They will have these decisions before thanksgiving so... yay?

What I do find odd is the fact that they ask which foundations site you want, but then have the foundation site essay? Baby, I already told where I want to go, even explicitly saying "Seattle ONLY". I did have one med student tell me that its more for people who decide to switch after their interview, but if you interviewed for Seattle and selected Seattle you will get placed in Seattle, which only makes sense but ya never know.

that is actually awesome thank you so much!!

I think this person's info is just old - on my interview they said that interviewees at each site are ONLY compared to interviewees for that site, and that they will not be able to allow you to switch site preferences after your interview.

For those that already interviewed, do you guys think that we need to focus on talking about our goals of pursuing primary care during the interview? or how much do they care about your future goals?

No not really, I actually talked about how I wanted to $pecialize but explained $pecifically why. For the second question, I would say somewhat.

Does anyone know the acceptance rate post II here for OOR applicants?

I believe the numbers were posted a few pages ago in this thread. It looked pretty good from what I remember (40-50%). Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong!

Talked to admissions, and they gave me some figures for OOR applicants:

~ 6000-7000 applicants
~ 3000 receive mission statement essays
~ 100-150 are sent secondaries
~ 60-100 are interviewed
~ 30-40 are accepted
~ 10-20 matriculate

Out of all the schools I've applied to, UW has definitely been the most considerate. From their waived (already cheap) secondary fee to their abundantly resourceful website, interactive social media, and A1 admissions staff, it's (to some degree) humanized this brutal process for me. It would be such an honor to go here!
Found it, for all of those OOR applicants wondering.

UW Spokane has a student group called Alliance for Equal Representation in Medicine (AFERM) and you can reach out to them if you have specific questions for current students in Spokane. I attended their mock interview and they are really willing to help and super friendly. You can reach them at [email protected].

I don't really know what path I want to pursue and said that outright in the interview (obviously with a bit more grace than "idk", I tied in how my experiences are leading me towards multiple possible paths), and I was accepted. They will probably ask though so you should be prepared to talk about your goals and how that ties into your experiences. UW is super highly ranked in primary care, but they also have a crazy amount of research funding and students match into all sorts of specialties. They're looking for all kinds of students so don't emphasize primary care if that doesn't fit your application or goals. If it does, go crazy!

TRUST applicants only interview in late January after most of the regular MD applicants have already interviewed. About 5 TRUST students are admitted into Seattle and about 5 are admitted to Spokane, and the TRUST applicants that get rejected are considered for the regular MD program.... So if only 5 are accepted per location this means the chances are pretty slim to get admitted to TRUST, but then you could say that "oh that's fine, because they still get to interview for the regular MD position".... but at that point, its past January and most of each class has already been accepted, so those aren't good odds either. Seems like those who opted for TRUST may be getting the short end of the stick. Is this correct?

No.

I would disagree with the statement that "most of each class has already been accepted" by the time of TRUST interviews.

For those of you who received your interview invite and scheduling email: I received an interview invite 10/26 and it's almost been a month but I have not received an email about scheduling yet. About how long did it take for you receive an email to schedule your interview? I guess I'm just getting antsy and worried that spots will run out.

I got my II on 11/17 and the scheduling email on 11/18.

I got my II in early Oct and received the email about interview date preference a month later - Spokane Cohort.

+1 for Spokane cohort. Hard to decide if I want to stick with Spokane or switch to Seattle. Spokane has 60 seats and interviews about 100 students each cycle. Those odds look nice. On the other side, Seattle interviews about 450 students for 90 MD spots, but Seattle is home haha.
Is this accurate? Is the Spokane post II A rate ~60%? This is my #1 choice and I'm so stoked and trying not to get my hopes up too much lol

Congrats to all those at Spokane with the A! For those of us still waiting, we shall wait patiently today/tomorrow for whatever news comes today/tomorrow (rather than freak out?) 🙂

Did anyone from the Seattle cohort hear back today?? Sounds like it’s just Spokane at the moment

Hate to be that guy but Spokane releases their acceptances in batches, one of which is right before thanksgiving. So enjoy the holidays and continue to ride this out.

For anyone accepted to Spokane, don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions and I’m sure you have them. We’re honestly really excited to meet you guys and I wish I coulda been there on your interview days.

Rejected to Spokane campus just now. Interviewed 11/19. A bit sad but expected given how I struggled with my interview( those with future IIs feel free to PM me about it). I have acceptances elsewhere and taking it as a sign that I need to get out of Washington for awhile.
Best of luck to everyone here and hope you get the II/A you deserve 🙂

Sucks to SUC (sorry too lame? lol) Congrats to all you guys with As and keep your heads up any R's out there!
It’s reasonable to be sad about SUC, but also means you’re still in the running! I’ve seen you around a couple of threads and wanna just say I’m rooting for you to get the A in the end of January 🙂

Thanks my dude! And yeah keeping my hopes up! But whatever happens, happens, and not much I can do to control it now. It really was a lot harder of an interview than I was expecting.

And it's funny because it seems no matter what I just keeping pulled back to Washington! Best of luck deciding on your other acceptances.

Hello Everyone,

Have any Alaskan residents heard back about an interview invite? Or, does anyone know when we will hear something?

Thanks in advance!

I am just confirming there is no deposit to hold your acceptance correct? I don't see anywhere on the portal to do so.

Since I forgot sdn is semi neurotic (whoops) and I've had time to process, I'll just share the broad strokes of insight here (with special thanks to f_my_drag_right and Force Healer who interviewed at Seattle for a bit more of their insight):

1) Seattle and Spokane have slightly different sets of questions. Spokane on the whole tends to be nerve-wracking but a bit more conversational compared to Seattle (which is generally nerve wracking). For Spokane, the health policy MAY NOT be as prevalent to know (but you should still know) vs. Seattle where it may be essential to know it seems.

As for why I think I got rejected, I think it was a combination of various factors. One being the bit more random (and conversational like) questions that UW had, not being as prepared as I should (a bit rusty in interviewing which led to definitely hesitating/ tangents on questions I should've known better how to answer) and trying to be what I thought UW wanted rather than being myself (which led to a bit of confusion in answers and lack of genuineness)

For advice: 1) Know why you're interviewing for the campus you're interviewing for and if you said no preference, don't say that you initially did that (I did which probably was a dumb move in hindsight). 2) Know what makes you specifically unique as the class itself is large, but the cohorts themselves are small and they want someone who can be a unique person in their class. 3) Remember to be genuine and confident in yourself. Don't try to convince them you're something you're not / you have knowledge in something you don't since it won't go well for you. 4) Know your health policy cuz there's a high shot this comes up in some shape or form. and 5) Remember to breathe and be ok with the fact that your interviewers/ EXCOM will not necessarily converse with you or have humorous laughs with you, but they still like your answers.

Good luck y'all 🙂

Thank you so much for this! Could you give me some insight into health policy you've mentioned?
