2020-2021 Wayne State

Oof, IS (have lived in downtown Detroit lol), complete 7/13 and silence over here. I never expect an II, but definitely a bit bummed to have possibly been passed over.
Feeling this, too. I keep telling myself it's still the first wave of regular decision IIs. So much time left in this cycle!

Does anyone think that my "last week of August submission" might have to do with why I didn't get an II?

This is both a joke and not-joke question.

We have the uncommon luxury of multiple II's, which at least means there's nothing troubling in our applications. Fingers crossed for both of us to catch the next wave!

I just reread my secondary and realized I didn't include any information about the significant ties I have to the school (parent working there, family living in area, etc). I just look like another OOS app when in reality I would probably attend this school if I was accepted.

When is it appropriate to send a letter of interest or an update letter? Do any accepted students have experience with this?

Are you talking about the third essay that talks about "what would resources would you use at Wayne State?" Because I'm kind of curious where else you would talk about any ties you had to the school in the secondary.

Nonetheless, it's still early on the cycle; like, they just sent out the first regular-decision IIs today. Don't sweat the small stuff my dude, you got this 🙂

Has anyone been able to find out if the one-on-one will be open or closed file? Is that something admissions can disclose?

I'm assuming this is where I should have included it- so yes? Most other secondaries had a section asking about ties through parents + family. This secondary was short and didn't include any of that which is why I'm tweaking :,)

No worries! But yeah, that essay I felt was less about ties, and more so specifically asking about what about Wayne State's programs, resources, initiatives, etc. most interest you and how you feel like they would best fit you and your goals!

If you were able to do that, I think you'll be good 🙂

I just hope they send rejections during the cycle, its annoying to have our file on review just to get rejected in march.

I know how you feel, but at least Wayne State does send a decent amount of interviews the entire period until that date.

We just began so here's to hoping there's good news for all of us 🙂

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong (and I really hope I am) but when I applied to the first time, I thought rejections werent sent out until school started. Because I interviewed in December and didn't get officially rejected until July.

For the pre-interview rejects, most got declined in February last cycle.

Does anyone know why my secondaries are so different or has anyone had similar questions? Is it because I am a reapplicant?

My questions:

1) During the stress of the pandemic, what was the one thing you learned about yourself? How has that affected your outlook on the role of medicine?

2)Do you think all physicians should be leaders? Please discuss your reasons.

3) What do you feel your mission is in life and why?

4) What about Wayne SOM is especially appealing to you. Please discuss.
I’m a reapplicant and did not have these questions

Fam, definitely email them about this. The same thing happened to me and I ended up having to complete the secondary twice, a month later.

Wow, that's super strange. I knew they changed prompts from last year, but these were not the questions I had back in July!

They changed up questions 2 and 3! When did you receive your secondary?

Late applicant here too. Received my secondary during the last week of September and did not have those questions!

So, I called the admissions office, and they told me that I had the correct questions. I guess they changed up the questions!

I got the same questions and am also a reapplicant . Did you ask why other people got a different set of questions?
