2020-2021 Wayne State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What threw me off most with your post was the idea of shaking hands. I forgot we used to do that.

Something I learned from dance, when you're performing, you are "on stage" from the moment you are possibly in view, to the moment you are not. In other words, just because your song is over, doesn't mean you slouch your posture, drop that smile, or change your gaze. You are performing the whole time.

Not sure if that helps anyone, but that's kind of how I approach interviews, should I get any.

"Would I be the man in the box? Or the man in the prestige?"

Story of my life

So I got my MCAT score back -510. Im wrapping up the secondary. Im ORMinority.

Is this good enough to get an interview MCAT wise?

I do have the energy for a Jan retake since all the info will be still fresh in my head.

What is an "ORMinority" ? I have never seen that term used.

So class profile for WSUSOM shows MCAT around 510 and average GPA around 3.70. So stat wise MCAT is fine. I'm not sure I would retake a 510 unless you had an unusual performance on testing day and your FL averages were significantly higher than 510. Retaking a 510 and getting a lower or same score would be significantly worse than applying with a 510 on 1st attempt. With that being said there is more to your application than your MCAT, so if you have good extracurriculars, LoR, GPA, etc., then you have a good shot at receiving an II. Your MCAT score won't close any doors,

Sorry Im not really knowledgable about all these terms/abbreviations.

Does the status on the portal change when they start reviewing your app? or does it continuously say "Your application is ready" beside application complete

Anyone interviewing tomorrow get any more correspondence from the admissions regarding the procedures tomorrow? The last email I received is when I confirmed my interview and they sent me more information will be forthcoming.

I didn't get any email regarding tomorrow, but there's a new section in my portal. Do you guys know how the MMI works on zoom? Are there any role play scenarios or is it just saying what I would do in a situation?

You should receive an e-mail tonight about the details. There will be a small introduction prior to your interview (about 30 minutes before the start of your first session). After the introduction you will be able to jump in to the interview which can be accessed by the Web Interview tab on the left hand side. A member of the admissions team will go into details about the format and anything else you may need to know during introductory session. Don't worry, just try to get a good nights rest and be ready at least an hour before your start time in case of any technical difficulties etc. Best of luck!

If any accepted folks (now and in the future) are interested in making a group me for roommates, move-in etc. DM me! Congrats to everyone else and good luck to all fellow applicants 🙂))

Congrats to everyone that got in! I also just interviewed and I was wondering if anyone got an acceptance after the first one was posted or if they are all in one wave. I hope this doesn’t mean that the everyone else who interviewed so far would be rejected or waitlisted.

Just double checking, for the AM session, should I be logging in 30 minutes early (8:30 am) or 15 minutes early (8:45 am) ?

Any 10/9 interviewers hear back?

Accepted!!! Interviewed Monday, did not expect to hear back so soon and wasn’t even neurotically checking my email!!! Amazing surprise!!!

Congrats!! I was just wondering did you get ur email right around 5pm like the other people in this thread did, or did they send it out later? I was just tryna see if they did it maybe by alphabet like they seemed to do the Interview invites

Interviewed Monday in the PM session, no news yet. D: Were you all in the AM session by chance?

Alt-list email at 7:40 this morning 🙁 but CONGRATS to those accepted!!

Wasn't necessarily expecting anything but I thought my interviews were great and I was a strong fit. I don't wanna break confidentiality but some advice to future interviewees is to stress how Wayne is one of your top choices and maybe why you would choose them, even in lieu of "prestigious"/ T20 schools

Also waitlisted. One interviewer asked if this was my top choice and I might have been too honest and said my own state school is my top but Wayne is a close second.

That question makes me uncomfortable. I don't have a "top choice" but I'm afraid my own honestly will backfire.

hey guys!

I am a current OOS applicant with an II. I couldn't find it in previous posts but can anyone share their experience for their interview / for MMI via Zoom and how that worked out? Super excited about this school.

You can be honest about the opportunities unique to the school that excite you (location/curriculum/etc). I think the question is just as much "why us" than are they the number one choice for you. If you can speak genuinely and enthusiastically about what the program has to offer that should help.

Oh, yes, that is wonderful advice! I just don't know how to not sound like I'm avoiding the question if they're direct.

Yep my mentor who’s part of the adcom said that wayne should be your top during your interview and avoid saying you applied for DO.

I second this, I think asking "Why Wayne?" is an appropriate question. However, asking if you're going to attend Wayne in lieu of every other school that offers you acceptance, and then punishing you if you are uncertain/have other interviews you want to check out first, is a pretty dodgy way to treat applicants. Considering this is already such a hard process for us and we've already spent time/resources/money into applying to Wayne, I find it intrusive to ask if you will attend given an acceptance. So many things could change between now and matriculation, and it makes it seem like the best thing to do is just lie and say Wayne is #1, which isn't ethical.

And in response to tonloc, I spent a lot of time talking about how great Wayne was, but I answered truthfully about my prior interview to a T20 school and my interviewer then spent the next 5 mins talking about how great that school was and everything that school had to offer. Like, I tried really hard to redirect it back to Wayne but at that point, it was like he thought I would 100% attend that other school given the choice.

Idk xD future interviewees, do what you will with that info in terms of speaking about other interviews. I wish you all the best! And I'm rooting for those on the waitlist!

Yeah, it is definitely a dilemma. I think it's better to completely avoid talking about other schools during interviews, so if they specifically asked about you getting an interview to another program that is really odd. IMO, it's prolly better to just say yes and then leave out specifics and redirect back to talking about the school you are interviewing at.

If your MCAT is very balanced I wouldn't retake. For reference, I have a 510 (127, 127,128,128) and was accepted.

My interview went over by a bit so I missed the beginning portion of the ending zoom session so I didn’t hear what they said about waitlists, did anyone hear any information about that today? Did they say that they would be putting everyone that interviewed on a waitlist and start rejecting them earlier, or what is that they would not even put some people on the waitlist and just reject them outright? Asking because I got the dreaded alternate email already, seems like one of my mistakes was saying that I had a few DO interviews.

If I remember correctly, they said they would be rejecting more people outright and try and keep the waitlist shorter. Previous cycles, people would be WL'd and not rejected and it would make the WL very very long. So a WL this early is not as bad as it seems!

Everyone who completed interviews, how did you prepare for it and how did you feel during the one-on-ones?

Hey I just practiced regular interview questions that you can find online for the one on ones like why this school, why medicine etc. And i practiced how I would answer MMIs. Honestly they do a really good job at making sure you are relaxed during the one on ones my experiences were really nice with the students and faculty. It did go very much like a conversation 🙂 🙂 everyone always says this haha but I really did not have to be stressed or worried
Edit: obvvv know your application/CV!

Could everyone who got accepted or got an interview please let us know when you were complete?

I mean Im sure they look at applications in the order they were submitted (only fair).

Alternate list usually has a lot of movement.

I know of a some stellar students who were on the alternate list and ended up getting in

I thought I was complete mid august but it looks like the actual date was 08/21. I'm not entirely sure they do look at applicants in order, it might be completely random or they categorize applicants based on stats. FWIW I'm IS.
